Big vs Style!!!

Anyone who wants style to be first should start figure skating. It should be a major factor in judgeing but not the #1 factor. People who don't ski and watch the x-Games like the fact that the skiers go way bigger than the snowboarders. Lets keep it that way. They should make a rule that if your not going at least 10 feet out of the pipe then that hit will not count. This would make the athletes go huge everytime. If we continue to except the little shit that is stylish we will lose the interest of outsiders wanting to ski. If we don't make are slope stlye courses bigger and bigger than we will see the same shit over and over. You see Dishwater or Dishwasher (the guy with 2000 plus post, fucking figure skating minded geek)you may be able to tell the difference bewtween difficulty in the switch this and grab like that but 99% of the folks watching the X-games don't have a glue. What gets them excited is when they go big and thats what I want to watch as well. They should have jumps in the slope style that are way to big for them to attempt it switch. You can find a 65 foot table top in any park and that was the biggest one they had at the X-games. Lame.

maybee motox is the sport for you, they go pretty big.

Hey bacon, my camera can beat up your camera in the dark.

So someone doing a massive grab in the pipe should get higher points than a styled out Belanger doing his thang?

Fuck that I'm a skier. Skiing Rules but the way we are being played out by a few pussies telling us that this (style) is where the future of skiing is at, is bullshit in my mind.

Belanger and Jon in the pipe are smooth like butta

I like it better than the Simon Dumont Boost huge thing, but if you can keep together like Candide it all good. Style though is to me personally more important. So what if jo schmo thinks skiing is not as cool as snowboarding?

The smart man does not know everything, rather the smart man admits when he knows nothing.

i agree with you about 80 percent

look people. its a combination of technical difficulty, amplitude, and style. not one OR the other.

i kind of agree, going big is more important than style in my mind, but i definitly dont think that emphasis on style is ruing our sport or anything.

I agree with Lanks.

Obviously a 20' straight air should not get more points than a 19' 900

What else is there?

whoa whoa whoa, so youre telling us that you want skiing to go aerials style just so johnny cumrotten can enjoy the xgames? phrostys right; i think your sport is moto x

it seems like this stage of life for a lot of people around our age is like when you are playing a video game and you beat the Final Boss, only to find out that was just a decoy Final Boss and the real Final Boss is about 50x harder. and on top of that, you used all your special tricks to beat the Decoy, and you are also low on life. and you have a crappy third party controller.

i think the only thing that we need to see more of in the pipe is switch landings and takeoffs. i think back to back sevens like 10 ft then like 7 feet out would be soooooo fuckin dope. i dont know if anydboy can get out that high switch though

no no you gotta combine the two, big air with a big spin but make it look really controled and smooth( smooth doesn't need to be slow)

i wish i had a sixty five foot table at my park. That 99% of the people watching dont know what big is anyway. I vote we get less people on skis, so i can ski switch without getting yelled at by ski patrol. If less people skied i could have fresh lines all day. I vote they take skiing off tv, and tell everyone skiing is not cool.

i second Doc.Dre, lanks is a brilliant guy, the most intelligent in his posts of the whole site, listen to the guy, he knows so much and is wiser than most all here: its a combination, not one or the other.

once again, i agree with lanks. also the person who said switch landings and take offs. it would be sweet to see more people drop in switch. ive seen crichton and others hit up quarterpipes switch, but dropping the superpipe switch would be sick.

Also, i kinda like how the skiing is right now, i dont want it to be a total bandwagon thing like snowboarding.

You can't really generalize the future of skiing or the most important aspect because no matter what, different people will always have a different outlook. Some kids are just about style, some are just about big air, some are just about learning the trick to say they can do it...fine. It's still skiing and as long as your limits keep getting exceeded, that's all that matters. If you don't want to be judged by someone who can't do it totally legit, don't go in comps unless they're rider-judged.

I dont know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

style is least important. I think going large and progressing in spins and tricks are most important like a cork 12 in the pipe with descent style and height should beat a very stylie cork 10 cause that last 180 is so hard. it should be about progression going 35ft out of the pipe and not even grabbing then going down the middle of the pipe should beat any run we saw at the x games. it should be about difficulty not about how you look. style is not only opinion but its shallow its how you look not what your doing.

sometimes I can, like, read peoples minds... its like I have Espn or something...

you need a combination, but tech difficulty an style are a bit more important than amplitude, if height was the only thing someone could just do a bunch of grabs 20 feet out and win, what we really need is linking tricks by going switch, chris turpin and other guys have proved that it is possible but no one pays any attention, unless pros concentrate on that aspect we'll never be at the same level as boarders because 7's and 10's will only be able to be thrown at the end of the pipe, like a back to back 7 would be sick

no, how do you judge someone other than how it looks man? so the person goes 35ft out and rolls down the windows all the way up and lands super low in the tranny? is that cooler than a 15ft 7 or 10 or somehting? no i dont think so, cant remember who said it but they said that it shouldnt be how somehting looks, but how else do you judge it? and the kid who said fuck Deschnaux is an idiot, he goes big with good style too
