Big toe going numb

My big toe goes numb in my boots after an hour.

I'm pretty sure this is blood related rather than cold as when I undid the instep buckle, feeling went back to normal after about 30mins. I walk also skiing with both midfoot and forefoot buckles undone to test (they barely need tightening anyway apart from first notch).

Boots are Lange Rx 100.

They feel very snug, even a little difficult to get in but no pressure points anywhere. I had some ankle grip/brace put around the liner when they were new as I felt my back heel was lifting a tiny bit when skiing and now it does not.

They also have moulded footbeds.

Think it would be worth stretching the instep somehow?

You footbeds could also be questionable.

But go to a shop. They might punch it. Or your liners will pack out.

Yeah but is it a punch or a stretch? With blood flow I'm assuming a stretch

A punch means thr shop will warm the specific spot on the boot, then mechanically stretching the plastic shell to relieve pressure points.

i thought this is common knowledge by now. The technology is over 20 years old

Just to be clear. This is my understanding

Stretches use a tool inside the shell that pushes against the other side of the shell. Punches use a tool that clamps between the inside and outside of the shell.

I get that something needs to be done and a boot fitter should be able to figure that out. Just wondering if it was obviously a volume thing. I had assumed punches were more for pain like bones, localised issues. Stretches more for general volume/restrictions.

The whole foot goes numb when the boot is a poor fit. Arch heigth, width on walk, center of foot… foot fitting is an art of patience and willingness to suffer now to save suffering later.

I just got a pair of Scarpa Aliens fitted; it took 3hrs, but it was the best fitter Ive encountered. It was like I had them the boots for years.

A few issues persist, but the point being, yes, it is possible to have one toe go numb. Its a width issue around the toe.

My second last toe nuked itself after 1600m elevation gain in the boots. Came down to a bad footbed! Sometimes the problem isnt exactly what you think.

Experienced boot fitters are the guys to talk to. They are worth the money and more.
