Big Sky Park 08-09

any big jumps yet? i would be down for some lofty spins when i get back to the mt. does anyone know how big big sky can build their jumps or are they just limited by the amount of snow.

Three big jumps at the top of the main park. the first is smaller, the other two are 35 ft to the knuckle (i believe?), but the landings are so long you can easily float 'em out. from what i understand, big sky is limited to 35 ft. because of their insurance, they are not legally allowed to build anything with a bigger gap, however, they built such long and large landings that you can take that 35 ft well past the point of casing and it's pretty fun. only problem has been the speed with it being so cold (maybe i just need to wax my sticks). but either way i've had a blast on those jumps. people have been throwing down for sure.
on a side note -- anybody know what the fuck is going on above the half-pipe? it looks like they're making it longer by pushing huge amounts of snow. and if thats the case, thats a terrible waste of time as that pipe is never any good.

Were any of you guys around for the 04-05 season at Big Sky?

I remember a pretty decent jump line in the main park. But I was just starting out and it was a long time ago, so maybe it only seems bigger/better now.

Ya if i remember correctly in 05-06 they had a real big cheese wedge type jump up top and another fairly large one next to the pipe. To bad I wasn't to good then haha

35ft!? thats it!? shits weak yo. granted yes a couple of the jumps have long landings but come on. maybe they could just make a really poppy jump that tossed you like 20 up and 35 over...id be down for that. at least they have jumps before april. thank you big sky.

I don't know what's going on with the pipe, but the 35ft-ers are smooth with long, soft landings and smooth transitions, making them easy to throw down on for sure. As to Big Sky being restricted to a certain size of jump for insurance reasons, I don't know if I would believe that unless it is a fairly recent development. I remember a couple years back they had a rather large table, maybe 65ft? (i'm not sure, it could have been larger or smaller), down at the bottom, skier's left, of Ambush. And continuing in that direction, does anyone know why they got rid of that part of the park? I remember when the used to have the pipe up top with a couple of little tables and kickers to the side of it and a larger one right after the pipe (they even used to have that rope tow so you could hit it all day without going all the way down to Ramcharger or having to hike back up). Then you could roll across Ambush to the bigger jumps and a couple more smaller ones and a few rails as well. That's also when I remember them having that 60 something footer. I loved that set up. The new set up is okay (for Montana), but the old set up was bigger and better. Oh well, I guess we have to jib what we've got.

Yo when were done with the pipe the jump takeoffs will get bigger with some added pop so you can go a little slower and have some more hang time. Less boarder cross feeling.

its always good to hear that things will continue to get bigger and bigger. maybe well end up with a monsta wu tang boota!

cant wait to drop in the halfpipe on friday. looks sick. o and good work on the massive ass sno bar issac. lolz

just got home from work and saw the pipe today it looks the best that ive ever seen it should be good fun and i hear its opening tomorow!!!!

the pipe that literally looks like a barrel cut in half? i hope they actually maintain it and cut it more often this year so it will cut back and get a bit wider

haha yeah, it felt good for a montana pipe, I'll say that at least. I'm sure it doesn't compare to breckenridge or PC or someplace like that, but it felt good compared to the pipe last year as well as compared to big mtn's pipe the last couple years.

pipe sounds sick. danner and erik are coming down today too, so we should all do some filming or something.

Sounds good.

The jump line is pretty sick, fun to hit. Small, but good to hit up.

Luke Tanaka was going nuts up there today.... Rodeo 9s, then a 270 on fs switchup 450 off the urban down rail, that kid is epic.

definitely, the jumps are sick. especially the last one, you can just float on it. and there's 2 rails, the same 2 they had last year, but a little higher up

big park has the flat down rail and a loonnnnnnggggg down round rail.

mini park still has the two down rails and flat rail, plus now two sorta launch boxes which are super fun. oh and the c box is in at the bottom. but the jump on seems kinda weird to me.

he kills everything dude... you don't even know. watch him on the rails then the jumps and then watch him shred the fuck out of some pow and then you MIGHT begin to understand how ridiulous the kid is..

I was there the weekend the superpipe opened and I noticed the massive amounts of snow built up around the upper half of the pipe. I'm not sure how possible it would be but I've never understood why mountains dont utilize the outside banks of the pipe. You could build a medium sized hip on either side of it or set up some banked rails further down on the walls. Just a suggestion that I think could be fun and provide an alternative to riding an icy pipe.

hey, they work with what they got. they are relegated to a ridiculously steep run, and management isnt a big fan of them

yah, i suppose that sounds a little better, i was just impressed with the slimy butter around then he took off with the switch 270... so yah, i think you've got it. regardless, i almost shat myself

I'll be up there tomorrow with my park skis ready to schralp. Hopefully it's still good up there.
