Big Sky = On top of their shit

If you didn't get the sarcasm in the title, well FUCK THEM seriously. So today, it was snowing, it had been snowing the past few days, and the mountain was pretty covered. BUT OF COURSE boyne is cheap bitches and open explorer life, THE WORST LIFT IN BIG SKY, when they coulda open swifty in the morning. Of course they open it at like 1pm after i sat in line from 10-almost 12 to get my damn season pass. Fuck Big Sky, they open a week late and they still can't get fucking ready for the season. But the sad part is, I will still be going tomorrow. Oh well.

yeah, I went up and left after seeing which lift was open and the sad amount of snow. It sucks. I have a pass so I'll get plenty o better days, but this snow situation just sucks a Mo.

I might go up there thursday or friday just for the hell of it. Some guy came into Ph.D today with an 8 inch core shot so it must be pretty epic up there on Mr. K.

Big resorts in general suck in general. They leave screwed people, burnt bridges, and unhappy employees in their wake, like hoard of pillaging freshman.

The mountain definitely isn't covered enough, they aren't opening anything else up for a lack of snow. So don't get pissed at them for that. Four hours for a season pass is a good reason to be mad though, that's ridiculous.

They opened a week late. They EASILY could have had swifty ready to go at 9 if they somehow scrambled to open it later and saved everyone, including themselves, from the clusterfuck that was the first 4 hrs of the season. Every year they open just explorer (maybe two years ago) the fucking thing breaks down. It'd be really nice if big sky would pay a little more attention to their skiing than their real estate (wtf is that new building?) but of course they won't because of $. It also wouldn't have KILLED them to set up a little park, but whatever.

Not that I'm complaining, it was still skiing.

The park crew must be real lazy. There is no excuse for not having a couple of rails and/or boxes set up. In these snow conditions rails are about all you can do and still have fun. Last week when I was in keystone they had a 24 inch base (3 inches more than Big Sky) and about 25 rails set up. Also they had their medium jump line up already(jumps pretty much the size of Big sky's biggest last year). I don't expect Big Sky to be able to match that; simply because they don't have the funding Vail Resorts does. Still they should have done something to prevent such a pathetic opening day (45 min lift line, 45 sec run). I think we all need to e-mail Big Sky and respectfully ask them to set up at least something for us to play on. Or if the park crew is still too lazy just lay out the rails and some shovels i'm sure we'd all be happy to set something up. Please e-mail them because if we don't they won't change: info@bigskyresort.com

I e-mailed Big Sky telling them to set up some rails, and this is the e-mail I got back today.

Hi,

That's a good idea, our crew has been out building since last night. The goal is to have some things open in the next day or two, for sure on Thursday. By this weekend we should have at least 6 features open.

Thanks,

Dax Schieffer

Big Sky Resort

There's good coverage in spots. I was hiking around at Moonlight today and the snow was either gone or knee to waist deep. I might go check it out tomorrow or thursday, I'm just not sure which skis I want to use.

i know your talking about big sky, but since were on the subject, showdown is really on top of their shit too, they actually havent got that much snow but enough to open..so they open the 15th..hopefuly

Big Sky is trying, we have not really gotten the snow we need. If anyone has skied Bridger lately they would tell you that it is so much worse. Every year of College I have built a jump on the North side of Ferry Lake, back down the road half a mile, so far this year I have not seen it filled in enough to go big or build the in run. Some years I have built it in September and hit it all November. THIS YEAR REALLY SUCKS SO FAR. Bottom line is we need snow.

No, but they might open next weekend. The mountain manager said we need another 18" to open, and I think that's on the lean side.

So, I finally went and skied Big Sky today. It was a little crusty since they got a little rain on wednesday, but overall it was better than I had expected. The bowl had good coverage and if you weren't a complete dumbass you could avoid all the rocks. They did have a little park set up by the magic carpets at the bottom, and believe it or not there was a big group of snowboarders sitting at the top of it. We still need another 3' though.

There's a couple different ways you can ski down to the bottom now, but they are all thin and suck chocolate salty balls. I recommend just sticking to the bowl for now; I hear they may open Challenger this weekend.

It got kind of warm, but not warm enough to get the snow sticky at all. That will probably happen tomorrow.

yeah im not a local or anything. but it waas late january when i was there last year and their park was pathetic. but then again thats not was midwesterids go outwest for. we go for the pow. so it was still a good trip.

The late park is very Big Sky, I was up today and ahad a fun time. 1/4pipe,jibs, and groomers, thats it. The bowl is kinda okay but rocky patches or bumps are your options.

has anyone hit up challenger yet? i just saw on the web site it was supposed to be open- just wondering how the coverage is and what runs are open up there.

I think the only run that's open is Moonlight, and that's all bumped up now. BRT didn't have any tracks down it today.

I bet the couloir's sweet, but I'm sure the rest of it sucks. I watched them shoot all the snow out of 1st 2nd and 3rd gullies on thursday morning, so I have no clue why those are open. Maybe the top section into Cron's would be ok, but it would be hell getting there.

Oh yeah, does anybody remember when it used to look like this?

Those memories are fading for me.

big sky was pretty good on christmas eve. a little rocky lower mountain still, but i hit liberty bowl and it was really nice. and its been snowing since then, so maybe the conditions will actually start getting pretty good.
