im headin out to montana tomorrow, anyone else gonna be there over christmas break?

ps im doing a bunch of backcountry skiing out there but whats the mountain like?

yup, i live in big sky and ski 4 or 5 days a week. the mountain is really fun, especially when theres lots of snow. there's a wide variety of terrain- open bowls, tighter chutes, good trees, fun trails and little jib runs. i think its a great place to ski. smoke shacks everywhere, if you're into that sort of thing... we haven't got a ton of snow lately, but hopefully that will change soon.

big sky is sickkkkk, but dont spread the word too much haha

im going to red lodge, montana over winter break....

and big sky, montana over spring break, i cant wait

I'll be around, but I think I'm only skiing Big Sky one day this break--it's all I can afford with $75 lift tickets. But I will be out backcountry skiing, so if you need someone to show you around shoot me a PM.

big sky is sweet, the one thing they really need to do is upgrade thier tram though... cuz skiing from the peak is nice shit.

Does anyone know if a new tram is in the works (isnt the current one overdue)? Wouldn't it be awesome if it ran from the base of the triple? I don't know if that would work though.

I don't see any reason to change the way the tram is right now. The small capacity makes it so the upper mountain doesn't get super tracked, and moving the bottom terminal to where the triple is really wouldn't make anything else more convenient (save for the bottom of the gullies).

Moonlight has plans for a tram to the top. I don't know many details, but I do know they have plans and that place is going to be sick in a couple years.

but you have to admit that it sucks waiting in like for some good snow.......but that is sick moonlight is planing for a tram...thats sick..

Moonlight has quads planned first, the tram idea would have to be after the lease on the summit of lone peak comes up, which Boyne got extended to like 2011 or some shit.

Just read moonlight has plans to lower the base of their lifts 1000', don't know how that will change anything re: the upper mountain.

Heading out there the 5th, crazy stoked to be getting out west.

So Moonlight is putting up a new lift next summer, a quad, and then another quad the next summer. and the plan for a new tram or summit access lift, is a gondola at moonlight maybe like four years.
