Big Sky/Moonlight 14-15

]Damn is it usually that late for moonlight?

yes. no real snowmaking on the north side, i think they only have 4 guns over there. this storm is hitting us good, fingers crossed for swifty opening day, gonna be piiiiissed if its just ram/explorer. working tomorrow, main job is to ride lifts and ski, will keep you guys posted on how everything is riding.

I got a press release at 4:22pm saying "Swift Current, Ramcharger, and Explorer chair lifts will be open at 9:00am."

Someone else told me they talked to patrol around the same time, and they reported that swifty would not be open.

So, I don't know. Fingers crossed.

swifty WILL be open. skied it all day, mr k will be rocky as fuck but skiable. party on frickers, see ya tomorrow!

Swifty gonna be runnin on auxiliary for a few days, sorry folks. It was an intense day haha.

Hey daph, are the only open runs mr. k off swift and tippy off of ramcharger? How does it look for opening more terrain with the project snow this week?

Elk park ridge off thunderwolf in the mext few days, cj and crazy horse off swifty were open today with that additional snow we got today, silverknife off ramcharger should be good to go soon as well.

New bearing goes in swifty motor tomorrow, hopefully just one more day of her running on auxiliary speed.

i would go up to take advantage of sky card free week, but for the meager amount of skiing, I don't know if I wanna bother waking up that early.

I was planning on going up for the frequency card as well, free skiing is better than no skiing. shoot me a pm if you're interesting in car pooling

Fuck me, skis got fucked. Moonlight probably shouldn't have even been open but then again I probably shouldn't have brought my new skis. Lesson learned.

Believe me, I'm still surprised we opened the terrain. It got a lil better with the dusting today, but I'd avoid it until we have more snow. I didn't even want to ski down from my lift.

Yea just gonna hold off till I get back from home next month haha

What I rode at moonlight was better than bs, less people and there wasn't scraped off refrozen everywhere. Hope lone peak got some snow tonight, it could sure use it.

Def need more snow so we can open up more terrain at Moonlight, but today was AWESOME off Six Shooter.

I went up today hoping that lone tree would be opened because of the new snowfall. It never opened but the snow was great all around iron horse and six shooter.

Challenger is down for at least 3 days, headwaters lift will be running so people can still ski that terrain however the headwaters themselves are still closed.

That storm was nice, helped cover some of the shit but there are still plenty of stumps and rocks around so be careful!

Definitely still rocky up top. For the first 1/8th of the way you are hop turning to not stomp on rocks but once you get past that you can get some face shots. Still risk and reward riding though, you know on the untracked there probably is a shark waiting for you.

that snow was needed. blew into the trees and covered lots of the sharky stuff. medi trees were skiing priiiiime today and nothing up top opened due to wind so the next few days should be epic. challenger bullwheel gets back sometime this week so hopefully that will reopen soon

lone moose was well worth the trek. Grizzly should be opening in a day or two, dependent on the snow fall.

Under iron horse the snow blew in very well yesterday. It looked like headwaters had less coverage than before the storm though due to wind. :(

Sheddy and Dakota were prime today, got myself some first tracks off of Shedhorn, Ski Po was rolling up the rope for the cat track gate as I skied by down to the lift. Hit a lot less rocks and stumps than I did on Saturday, but there's definitely still some thin spots out there.

Yesterday was great. They opened up the run that goes under lone tree lift and it was super fun once you got past the rocks on top. The trees off to lookers left still had good leftovers by the end of the day. Anyone know when obsidian will be open?

Is challenger even gonna get fixed this year? I've heard it was a few days away from getting fixed several times in the past few weeks, yet it's still very broken.

ugh I am so sick of hearing people bitch about challenger. we shipped the bullwheel to spokane because we don't have the means to rebuild it here. there is nothing we can do until we get it back. its supposed to get in today provided the trucker doesn't fuck up and then it will take a few days for us to re-install. hopefully its up and running by the weekend. the terrain has been open this whole time and its skiing way better than if the lift was open because its not getting chewed to shit. I've skied it a bunch, its not that much of a pain in the ass to get to

Not bitching, just inquiring. I'm more of a Shedhorn/Dakota guy anyways, so it hasn't affected me a lot, plus I still get one lap in off it when I return from Moonlight to Big Sky.

speaking of, hows that stuff riding? how are the trees off the ridge that lone tree accesses? headwaters filling in?

it would be nice if they listed base numbers for moonlight as well

Variable as hell last time I was over there, which was about a week ago. Some stuff is pretty good, some stuff is very, very bad. Stay away from known rocky areas, they will be rocky still, but a lot of the tree runs off of Lone tree are skiing pretty well. Challenger terrain is pretty decent. Personally I wouldn't ski Headwaters this time of year, Three Forks has been open but fuck that shit, I'd almost guarantee it's rocky as hell.

There's a new shack up on Lookout Ridge, hike up to the highest point and look left, can't miss it.

And by this I mean, go to that spot on the lookout ridge groomed trail where you can hike up a bit and hit those cliffs skiing down towards marshall and moonshine, that's where it is.

super cool, thanks man

I do not ski up there enough to know the location of shacks, but I'll be sure to check that out next time I'm in the neighborhood ;)

Hey gang, headed to Big Sky next weekend for 4 days and wondering what the conditions have been lately?

Any other tips would be much appreciated ... restaurants? lift ticket deals? good local shops?

Thanks guys, I used to live in Vail and there's nothing like local knowledge (as long as it's respected and not abused!)

Hey guys, remember that on days with high wind, lifts shut down. Please don't harass us about challenger/triple/Dakot/sheadhorn being closed At times. It's for your safety. That being said, let's hope this is a storm pushing in

Anyone gonna be up there for Powder Week? I think some of us are gonna be coming on up!

I think I might be able to charge down headwaters by then if my bone fuses together. Going to be doing a lot of demoing for fun and for work. I can hook you up with 50% off lift tickets if you don't find a better deal.

possibly heading up this weekend, whats good up at Big Sky

we finally got decent sized jumps in swifty and zero gravity. Snow is variable but better than a lot of other western resorts. Tram has been skiing surprisingly creamy

Its that time of year again now that y'all are back for school and whatnot. This thread is for all things concerning Big Sky and Moonlight! Question, stoke, park suggestions, carpooling etc.

This'll be my 4th winter working there so I can hopefully answer most questions and hook up all you Bridger riders with half off tickets if you feel like shredding a whole mtn instead of just a ridgeline hehehe.

I'm coming up to Bozeman March 23-27 for the SFS at Big Sky. If you still have any deals on tickets for Big Sky or Bridger that'd be killer!

Do you not get discount tickets through sfs? I have some half offs for big sky floating around still, can't help w Bridger though

Sometimes they aren't as good as half off, just thought I'd check anyway
