Its that time of year again now that y'all are back for school and whatnot. This thread is for all things concerning Big Sky and Moonlight! Question, stoke, park suggestions, carpooling etc.

This'll be my 4th winter working there so I can hopefully answer most questions and hook up all you Bridger riders with half off tickets if you feel like shredding a whole mtn instead of just a ridgeline hehehe.

There's a solo moonlight pass. The big sky gold pass is now the biggest skiing in america pass and I'm pretty sure the silver pass is strictly big sky

Im planning on getting up to the area from Jackson a few times this season. Anyone have the hookup on tixs/lodging? I can extend the offer to you when you come down my way!

I might but not 100% sure. I have been under boyne for 4 years but this will be my first winter at big sky.

I heard Adam West is the new park crew manager or something, is this true?

Nate quit, not sure who got the job. Last I heard Brent Mach was the most likely candidate but thats just speculation. I'll find out this week and get back to ya

Working at Big Sky this year, so I'll probably be able to hook it up with early rides and such.

Kewl, I'll have to find him on the hill. He made a lot out of nothing at good ole Hidden Valley, I think he'll be great at a real resort.

I heard from a buddy who works at keystone that Keystone's park director is moving to big sky...just a rumor though.

If they are moving up here, they arent the new park director. I can 100% confirm the new guy is from PA, got that info straight from upper mgmt

I'm just getting a frequency card through work, so I'll be up the last week at least a couple times. I will be skiing the Beehive area quite a bit, though, if anyone wants to do some touring.

yezzir. the first free week with your card the moonlight terrain probably wont be open

This will be the first year since 2007 I haven't had either a Moonlight and/or BS pass... I got the sky card, but its not quite the same.

Really disappointed in the results of the merger.

Mind if i ask what about the merger you dont like? Just curious, not looking to bash. I have a lot of opinions on it coming from an internal perspective

Currently looking at pass pricing, the difference between the gold pass and the mb pass is only $130 with college pricing, think I'll drop the cash for the gold.

Looking to share rides to and from bozangeles this season so I'm not always on the bus, would be happy to work something out for monies/beer/etc.

Also curious if anyone would be willing to let me crash on their couch sometimes this season. Not looking to live at your place, just would like to avoid the ride through the canyon if I plan on skiing bs for two days in a row. I would be happy to compensate you for the space.

Anyway, stoked to get to spend my whole season in MT this year after getting a taste last winter. If anyone is looking to meet up this season, shoot me PM, its always great to make turns with someone new.

I was internal too, I worked there for a long time. A few problems started a year or two before the merger.

My main issue is cost. I can't come up with $1200 extra to put into a pass. I would buy a Moonlight pass, but I am not in college anymore, and now that everyone with a Big Sky pass can ski moonlight, its not really worth it (never saw moguls on the headwaters till last year. Ever.)

Also, the way the departments were merged was a bit distressing. I personally heard someone in the BS base area tell someone on the phone that the instructors on the Moonlight side were less educated/less competent compared to the Big Sky side when someone was trying to book a lesson at Moonlight. That is not only a terrible thing to do, but completely the opposite. Having worked at all the resorts around SW montana, I would say the instructing crew at Moonlight might be better than BS.

Finally, Boyne has systematically destroyed their local market. A few years ago they did away with free lift tickets for kids lessons, and a day trip from Bozeman for a family of 4 went from about $150 to over $300 in 2 years. They did this to encourage people to stay in the Boyne owned hotels, and get discounts that way... but if you are local, why stay in a hotel?

I understand why its a good business move, I understand why its better in the long run, but Holy balls $100 day tickets is absurd. Time to move to Colorado.

Get the gold pass. I go down every weekend and depending on class, a day or two during the week. Also have extra space, so shoot me a PM if youre interested

Since when do employees get half off lift tickets?

Since the last 3 years i've been there idk. We're supposed to only have 10 a year but most of the lift maintenance folk are tight with the mtn ops generalist so we can get as many as we want. It might just be mountain operations who get half offs but who knows

Last I heard it was only full time year round employees who got 10 free tix for friends and family.

I wouldn't go broadcasting this offer on the internet if I were you or its going to screw up the program for those who actually follow the rules.

I was seasonal for 3 years and got em. The system has been abused by everyone, calm yourself, its fucking newschoolers. If a shredder from here wants help getting tickets then I consider that well in my ability to help them out and its never been an issue. I've made this offer on here since I've worked in big sky and I don't think I've ever used more than the alotted 10 but whatever, I'm sure the view is nice up on that high horse

Daph,

Im bummed I wont be up there all season like I have the past seven years. Its such a different vibe down here in CO. I hope to make it up there for Turkey day and/or Xmas and take some laps with all the homies! Hope all is well and you have a great beginning of the season!

Dude, this is the Montana and Wyoming regional forum... Hardly anyone goes in this forum to begin with except for a few select people.

Can anyone explain me to the basic bus schedule from MSU to Moonlight. What time, when I need to change buses, etc. I think I got it but I wanna make sure I don't fuck it up.

]Can anyone explain me to the basic bus schedule from MSU to Moonlight. What time, when I need to change buses, etc. I think I got it but I wanna make sure I don't fuck it up.

I got this, I rode the bus all year last year. If you're going up to ski, you want the last bus in the morning. Monday-Thursday, the last one leaves MSU at 7:20am. Friday-Sunday, the last bus leaves at 8:10am. If you don't have a Big Sky pass, you must transfer to the bus that goes to Moonlight at Mountain Village Center. That bus leaves Mountain Village Center at 9:35am. If you don't have a Big Sky pass and are skiing Mon-Thu, you may be better off catching the 6:50am bus out of MSU if you can get up that early, because then you can catch the 8:35am transfer to the Moonlight bus and make first chair, rather than sitting around at Mountain Village Center for a half hour. Going back home, either take Fast Lane from the top of Six Shooter or the the Headwaters lift and ski down the Big Sky side over to Mountain Village center, from there you can catch a bus home at 3:15, 4:15, or 5:15 every day, and 4:45 on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

If the Link Express is running late and you're going to miss your transfer, ask the driver if they can radio the Moonlight bus and have it wait for you. I'm not sure if they'll do it, but it would sure beat waiting an hour for the next one.

Also, if you miss the Moonlight bus, you might want to see if the Explorer ticket scanner is sympathetic to you situation and will let you ride up once. I don't see what the big deal would be, since all that terrain is accessible from Six Shooter and the Headwaters lift anyways.

You better just check their website, the schedule seems to change every year.

I already checked, the only change I noticed was that the 8:15pm Link Express to Bozeman was eliminated and replaced by a 6:10pm bus that only picks up in town center and the meadows. Not really sure why they don't pick up at Mountain Village on that run, but I do know from broomball nights that the 8:15 was always empty and not really needed.

hows the snow situation looking?

Its shit pat. Looks like we will be getting snow this weekend/next week, but if it weren't for snow making Big Sky wouldn't be opening for another month.

was pretty warm when I was up there today, thin cover.

top of mr. k just needs like 6 more inches to open, with this storm coming in we may just get that. buncha negative nancys, this happens every year.

Is it gonna be in 2 days for sure? Also I heard Moonlight won't be open till Dec 12th is this right?
