Big Ol' Cliff Stomps

So I am very able to stomp any cliffs in the 20-30 foot range. However on the bigger ones my knees generally come up and hit my chest. Obviously there are people hitting much bigger than that, and how is one able to land a cliff any bigger than 50 feet without their knees going through their chest/ruining thier face? Does it just come down to leg strength, or do you have to land somewhat backseat and bounce off the snow assuming the landing is powdery? I just dont know what to think anymore.

I want to hit something bigger, but would like some advice regarding how to do it in order to prevent fuckation of myself.

i think the large cliffs require lots of speed, i mean lots, i don't know though because i can't drop anything bigger than 30 because my knees suck. and im old so 30 is huge to me. i have found that speed has always been my friend. so try that. i guess

The bigger the cliff, the steeper the landing needs to be. Leg strength also helps out a lot in getting yourself out of the bomb hole right away, so that's another thing you could work on if you want to go bigger. Other than that, just make sure the landing's soft enough and you should be able to stomp it.

i read an article on jamie pierre and he was saying you need to land on your tails so they absorb the impact.

That only works on really deep powder, if you have less than 4 feet to jump into, landing on your tails will only throw you backseat or make you double eject.

yeah I read something that Seth Morrison said, and he said you more have to land backseat to absorb the landing with your tails, then bounce up off the snow. But then I dont have Alaskan freshies to be landing in. I'm just afraid of putting my teeth through my knee or vice versa.

ya, teeth in knee is not good. Wille Li Louma (some snowboarder) did that shit 2 years ago i think. he had to have surgery to get his teeth removed from his knee...geewwwwwww

Yeah, I stuck my knee into my face yesterday because I landed too far forward, it really sucked. I've always found that deep snow is your friend for landing bigger stuff, I won't jump over 30 feet unless there's 2'+ to land into, otherwise the impact and speed are just too much. Just jump smaller stuff first to see how the snow consistency is and where on the ski you need to be landing, then go big.

I've found that with big cliffs speed is always your friend and a steep landing always helps a ton. As far as position for landing, it depends on how much snow there is. If you have a ton of snow it's good to land more back-seat, but if there isn't very much you should land more centered and you'll have to do most of the work on absorbing with your legs.

My friend had been snowboarding for about 3 years...we ski at a small hill and have one cliff about 30 or so feet high. today he felt like a dumbass and hit it with too much speed. he landed on the flat road and screwed up his knees a little bit. it was pretty funny.

Obviously you know how to toss a cliff cause you're already stompin 30 footers. Squattin in the gym to build massive leg strength, and then more speed. The faster you're going, the lesser the impact you'll feel because you're not dropping straight down, but are moving at an angle closer to the angle of the hill. Depends if you want to stomp it like Hugo, or slap back as well.

It's all about the steepness of the landing, when your landing on a soft but somewhat flat slope you just cant stomp shit bigger than 50ish. What I do when its big but kind of flat is not backslap but kind of buttslap.

When you are landing stay paralell with the horizon and get in almost a sitting position as you land your momentum will carry you out of your bombhole and you will land clean and ride away. Its also way easier to land fronts of cliffs I've found if you buttslap it, if not your momentum will just fuck you when you put the landing gear down.

yo man it helps to actually STOMP your landing too cuase you'll push down and they wont come up. But to do this make sure its good snow for hucking and ur legs are the size of a downhill racers.

Speed actually helps out quite a bit. A couple weeks ago I dropped a 20 footer with barely any speed and bomb holed and stopped. I then hit it again with a lot of speed (now about 35) and skied away in the landing. The landing wasnt even that steep. The only problem was that I was maching when I landed, and there wasnt that much room to mach.

haha, someone else did that too, my other bro (a boarder) showed me a picture of a guy with teeth in his knee 6 years ago.

if your that worried about bashing your teeth, invest in a full face helmet or just simply a plastic mouth guard.

I mean I hit cliffs with a decent amount of speed, but not so much that I will "mach" when I land as someone so descriptively put it. I've found that being smart about the cliff is the best idea too. Like everyone said: good snow, soft/steep landing and speed are all better to have than your eye socket busted. Cause thats some shit.

I hear ya man, I've fucked myself up just being stupid. Sometimes I'll just really want to go big even if the conditions don't warrant such an activity. I wear a fullface now because I've kneed myself in the face so hard last season I dislocated my jaw and punched my front teeth through the skin below my lip and had to get 20 stiches inside my mouth. Just be smart about your hucks and let the rest fall into place
