If you havent heard about it yet........a week ago a freind of mines brother named Ben Fanelli played hockey for the Kitchener Rangers (OHL) and was hit by an Erie Otters player. Ben went down immediately and was air lifted to Hamilton Hospital. He has a fractured skull and a fractured orbital bone. it was a bad hit, and ben did expose his back. but the Otter player had enough room to avoid the hit... its hard to judge.

i think the suspension was way to much for a junior , ruined his whole hockey career

Jesus fuck major charge, and a huge elbow. I sure hope the kids on the receiver of the hit's team beat the living fuck out the kid who made that hit. The kid who made the hit was clearly out to hurt someone, and for that reason he should not be allowed to play hockey again.

some players know they dont have a future in hockey and just hit and fight, and possibley ending someone elses future. thats what realy disapoints me

Yeah, but he may have ruined the other guys career too. The suspension is right in length, it will show all hockey players, wether they are a kid learning the game or a pro, that these hits are not acceptable.
Hope for a speedy recover.

Pretty much. This kid is 16 and playing in the OHL, as a defenceman no less, so chances are he would be playing in the NHL in the years to come. And as much as I'd like to stay positive I'd say his career is done. This kid won't be playing competitive hockey at this level again, so therefore the punishment should match the crime. The guy who hit him should not be allowed to play again. He show no intent of slowing down, and clearly threw and elbow at the head, along with the charge.

I DONT care how much i may get flamed for this.

BUT i don't think it was a dirty hit. The guy was flying in at full speed into the corner, cleary threw his body into him and at the moment he (therangerskid) turned around. This is very controversial call. WHITCH NONE OF US are in a positon to judge. It's a fast game, if you can't live with it, don't play.

that was my personel oppion.

I AM also a lvl 2 reff in ontario, and the rules clearly due state that any hit from behind (even if player turtles last second) shall be penilized with a gm and minor or major or at discrecition of reffere a match penelty. I think this call was way too much, but again i wasn't there to make the call or witness it, or put into there (the refs shoes) i DONT think the guy who hit, was all at fault. i don't think his carerr shold be runined because this guy turtled. ( on the subject i wanted to say get better man, and my prayes are with you and your family)

I too am a level 2 ref, but from BC and I disagree with you. The guy didn't just fly in on the forecheck he charged in. Rough definition of a charge: 3 or more strides made in an attempt to a hit another player. Also, how could you miss the fact that the hitters elbow made clear and un-interfered contact with the hit player in questions head. The only rough area is on the slight turtle, and based on the amount of force it takes to fracture a skull, which was clearly demonstrated in the video of the incident, I don't think it would have made that much of a difference had he turtled or not.

this liambas guy seems like the biggest fucking asshole ever, i looked for videos of him and all i found was cheap hits and fight compilations with assorted cheap hits inserted into them.

i watched a video of this same guy hitting a guy from behind directly into the boards, it was horrible boarding/hitting from behind, he should be kicked out of hockey

accutaly i agree, i change my stance. i watched that video over, and over again. and he did charge in waay to fast and there is no mistaking that elbow. i'm also saying this because that lambias ( or w,e) guy is a goon. there are videos of him fighting all over youtube.

side note: howl ong have you been reffing for ? :)

What Career? This guy is a no body. 124 games, 13 points, 357 PM. Undrafted and an OA.

This guy was nothing but a goon on the ice looking for trouble and this isn't his first time laying a dirty hit.

Tavares hit from behind.
