It's front page news... ya'll may be skiiers but I know you still claim Burton. Come on, they have awesome hard goods, stylish soft goods, and a rockin' team. And now they can add Channel Island Surfboards to their list of wonders. Big news just dropped that Burton bought out the company from al Merrick.

Check out the press release

That's because burton still seems completely dedicated to snowsports. Whereas k2 gives the impression it is dedicated to profitmargins and shareholders.

But yes, this is a ginormous acquisition.

Why do you say that?

K2 has always seemed like a great company, they aren't "independent/core", but they make quality products, sponsor events, and sponsor a large, quality team.

ahhh this thread isn't about that. i was merely trying to help that child understand the differences and why people are reacting to burton differently... i'm certain there are many many threads about this topic, here is not the place to discuss it...

its great to be informed about stuff like this but this snowboardmag username is just used to whore out snowboardermagazine.com kind of unchillll

are you saying that burton isnt in it for the money? because thats what drives every snowsports company, big or small

i was mearly stating the fact that if it is not "Ski" related.. people dont bitch.

years ago..(when i was actually a kid) ride reps handed out shirts that said..

BUY YOUR BURTON AT TJMAXX thus illustrating that burton is more about money than other snowboard companies..

k2 is furthering all sports all the way around.. and for you (firewhatever) to say they are in it for just money makes you ignorant and close minded.. they are a business.. thats what a business does.. if anyone ever tells you that they arent in it for the money... then they wouldnt be selling product and just making whatever for themselves and a select few (usually friends).

K2 currently supports skiin, snowboarding, bmx, mtb, etc... they invest hords of money into R&D for all aspects of these sports.. and they are pioneers of skiing as well as other sports..

Burton is doing just that as welll just different ventures for different companies.. they have gravis, red, anon, and a soon (yet to be named) ski company that will be puttin out a ski in 2008(yes it exists.. its been spotted)

So learn the fact that not everyone on this site is a pesky 14yr old that posts to post..

didnt think id have to go into this extend to say (more simply put) that people's reaction to Line being bought was overdramatized and blown out of proportion because it was skiing... but now burton does something and no one cares..

CI isn't that big a company, but they are lowering production of in house shaped boards and will just fill their requirements of pop out boards, such as the tuflite ones. I am sure Burton will whore out the company for soft goods, at least more than it already is.

Burton makes some pretty sick stuff, I will admit. But Burton represents all that is wrong with the snowboard industry.

fuck no, i wouldn't say that for a second. i'm saying burton markets itself as still being "core", because that's what works with their brand image that they have created.

actually no. not true at all. Burton did not do this as a way to get more softgoods. Channel Islands is an amazing surf company with not a lot of resources. Burton will help them without changing the ways of the company. It's a great opportunity for CI. Everyone is super stoked about it

al Merrick made channel islands the shit, some of the best boards I've ever riden. Who knows what will happen now

al is still running it how he always does. the only difference CI-wise is that they will have more money to work with

thanks man... the majority of you guys think snowboarder magazine is just "whoring" out our website. truth be told, i'm new here and just trying to see what's going on in the internet snow community. and hey, i ski too, so no prejudice! just trying to get big news/info out to you all and hear what you have to say.

sound good?

Wait. So Burton is making skis!? I knew I heard that somewhere. I told my friend who rides and he's like I dont think so and thought I was crazy. So now I get to go laugh in his face because I knew I was right! WHAT NOW BITCH!!??
