Big Mtn gets a Superpipe!!!!

It was on the front page of the Outdoors section. They are doing dirt work, and we get our pipe cutter in January. This looks like we will actually have a pipe comp in MT for USSA this year...

Yeah, that was a few years ago, but this one's supposed to be a superpipe. Those are way more fun to ski in since you go so fast and have WAY more airtime.

^That is sure to happen. Thanks for the inspo. In other big mtn news, they are moving the terrain park to chair 3, meaning they have snowmaking in the park and are only limited by how much snow they want to blow. This could mean ridiculous hits this year.....

I hope they get it together enough to do it well. If they do the same shitty job on the pipe as they did on the park last year, I am going to start hijacking groomers and doing it myself.

keep us updated, pix would be nice so we can actually see this is for real!! I also heard about a lighted park this year on the frontside?!!? Can anyone confirm?

Need pix pleez =D

Dever, i would check the daily interlake from last friday for pics. I may go up and take some pics next week.

We went and checked out the pipe construction. I didnt bring a camera, and i dont have a digi. The pipe looks like it is comming along nicely, although one of the workers i talked to said they were a little behind schedule. One thing I noticed is that it is really long, probably close to 500ft at this point and getting longer every day. If i can secure a camera, Ill go up again and get pics.

i cant wait to ski that up, its going to be so nice being able to hit the park at night up

Agreed. The park on the frontside is something coming for a long time. All it took was shutting up the ski school, building a new moving sidewalk for the gapers, moving the base of chair 6 up 40 ft, and expanding the outpost.

Also, maybe they will put a little more effort into the comps this year. The judging and placing were absolute bullshit last year. I got a letter in the mail that they screwed up, and that is the last I heard. Maybe we are headed for better times though...?

^ david for sure i hope the comps get better, because me and richard might try some, how many kids competed last year?

Noone. It was wide open. I went into the hardest class the second comp, and sucked at like 7th place or something. But the first comp I was in my age group, and took 1st. More people need to come. The prizes are worth it, plus you get to try competition. $20 is damn cheap for a slopestyle comp, and I would Imagine that they will have halfpipe comps.

Where is this moving sidewalk you speak of? I went up there, I just got a new DSLR, so next time i'm up there i'll take some more photos, i have a few of the trucks driving up the face of chair three though. I competed when I could last year, but this winter I'm working nights, so I'm gonna be up there like every day.

Right on Jake. The moving sidewalk will be to the north east of the Outpost, i believe. Look for mad switchups on that thing.

Ha, moving sidewalk. Lame. They're doing a ton of dirt work up there, really late. Why didn't they get an earlier start? Fucking lame. All I can say is that Tyler and I have plans to fuck around on the moving sidewalk just like on UP.1.2

yes it is true and its going to be fucking huge. ive been up there snowskating adn wnet and saw it. but i have also heard that they arent going to get a pipe dragon until like january so we wouldnt have the pipe until feb. but this may not be true.

It's supposed to arrive at the end of december. We should have a killer pipe by the first or second week of January, according to when the dragon is supposed to get here. They're installing lights and a sound system too. So night skiing will be sick, because I think the plan is to have music cranking the whole time. I'll have to give them some good shit to play.

There's already some pretty damn good skiers up there even with the park the way it was last year. I thought it was pretty fun the few times I skied it, but some changes are welcome for sure.

I'm definately planning on adding to my bag of tricks. Switch corks and rodeos are my goal, along with taking all my current tricks to the HP.

According to James Griffith, Esq., the HEAD Coach of the BMFT (rprznt!), the pipe dragon will arrive in January. Ehem.

As cool as Jimmy G is, BMFT is a joke these days. Sorry. I love those guys, but they aren't offering the kind of coaching they advertise.

I am just screwing around. And the BMFT is no joke, you get out of it what you put in. However, I am not sure how well they are at coaching off axis stuff. We will see this year.

BMFT is great for building a base. Jim and Jason are two of the coolest cats I know. If you want to compete moguls or invert aerials, it's a super great program. They just don't have the freeride background. Neither of them have thrown off axis tricks, so they only know from watching and taking classes from people who can throw them. They need an experience freeride coach, but unfortunately, even with the high prices of membership, they can't afford another coach. Once they get one though, I might reconsider joining.

I agree, but it is a great community and for what you pay, your skiing improves soooooo much. It is definitly fair to say I have come a long way since two years ago.

New Super-Pipe to Debut - Posted on 10/21/2005

Big Mountain is constructing a new Super Pipe that will be located on the Ranger Trail headwall to the east of Question Mark in the Chair 3 area. The pipe will be 450 feet long, 65 feet wide, with 15-foot high walls and a 16-degree pitch, all to competition standards. Snowmaking, lights, and a sound system are also being installed. The resort is planning to open the pipe as early as possible this season, but snowfall and the delivery of a new Zaugg pipe grinder will be the determining factors.

This is straight off the Big Mtn Website.

cant wait for the park to start up again, hopefully im adding flat 5's and 7s in my skiing, i really want to work on my corks but who knows, see you all you guys on wednesday

Ghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Ghhhhhhhhhhhhh. That is the sound of somebody cutting the pipe. It is echoing through my head. Can you

The greywolf jump has been tweaked. We built it about 4 feet wide or so, and continued that width down the inrun for about 20 feet to make a nice tranny. Super easy to throw rodeo/cork/stylie spins on it. Keep it sick.

Whatever. I like 3s, they are fun for me, why should I care what you think? I have seen many a stylish 3 over the greywolf gap.

today was a good day, until ski patrol had to go and tell us that we cant build jumps on gray wolf gap, he was pissed so Jake and David i guess no more gray wolf gap

If you can convince them that it doesn't pose a serious risk to other people, they'll usually let stuff like that slide. I was talking to a patroller at bridger about tearing down jumps and she told me that as long as it doesn't interfere with traffic or pose other hazards, you should be good to go.

Sorry. In any case, I think Jake would know as he did build part of it, and we will see tomarrow as to whether or not they do anything. Personally, I am going out of bounds to build a jump, as they cant bitch out there.

someone should make the inrun so that you can drop in switch. that would be sick. i saw someone try it swith as like a moguly inrun adn they ate shit so hard

The tranny is long enough that you could hit it switch. You'd just have to be good at skiing switch. You boost higher off of it going forward though. I threw my first cork10 and rodeo9 of the year today. I brought them to my feet, and just landed in the powder. Super fun gap.
