It hurts me to read about people ragging on big mountain skiing. Granted park skiing is more accessible to the general public, but in my opinion it has become a cheap knockoff of skateboarding, and even worse, rollerblading. Nothing pisses me off more than to see some dude pull an ugly 360 tail grab and head out of the park without knowing how to even carve a turn. Chances he probably took up skiing again a year ago when it became `cool`. As far as I am concerned, big mountain is the core of skiing. It requires the most skill, both in terms of ability on snow, air, mountaneering skills etc... Park skiing as it is today is just a fad.

big mountain is sick dude... id really like to see people takin tricks to the backcountry, and i think thats gonna happen in a lot of the movies this year.. so im amped

big mountain skiing will always kick ass. somedays i prefer just skiing, and stay out of the park b/c it gets busy. nothing beats a foot of powder.

in desparate need of good-looking true freeskier men out here. please. save me from the posers & the farmers... the girls out here need to 'get some' too!!!
 
ive never seen anyone knock big mountain, ive read its boring to watch and sometimes it is, but that shits intense, it looks like theyre just goin down big pow fields and chutes from the camera, but when ur standin at the top of shit like that its scary as fuck, its always seems steeper than it looks

well im like the exact opposite of public enemy we dont got no bc up here in minnesota. but you will see posers in every sport in the park its just the way it has to be.

 
I`m glad to see such a positive response. It disappoints me that skiing is becoming like rollerblading. Most importantly, I hate people who ride the park and have no appreciation for their surroundings. Your outside, in the mountains, in the trees, in the snow, appreciate it. Keep it real.

i totally agree with what you say because in all my life ive only done one perfect powder face . and it was more fun than any trick ive ever landed big mountain is almost being teated like racing these days by some people. but i they just got out of the park they would know that feeling

 
I went in some backcoutry pow in utah last febuary. best thing I've ever done. 10 times better than anything I've ever done in the park. I like the park, but I dont go in it too much, (except when the snow is crap) I perfer good tree runs and steeps over the park, espically when the snow is good

i dont see how u figure park is like rollerblading. i love the park atmosphere. all the riders i've seen have no problems when it comes to rippen turns. im not in anyway bashing big mountain cause i love skiing pow, but im just one of those guys that likes park better. mountain parks and skate parks have two totally different atmospheres. i think that mountain parks are way more chill.

 
I say they are both sick, and i love it when ppl bring the best of both worlds together ie: pollard skiing the huge face fakie, the whistler freeride team, and we cant forget mr morrison......

I sya thanks for the post, but where the hell did these replies come from cause i swear 90% of the posts i read on this site are about park being better than big mountain and everyones favorite section of every movie is tanner or pep or someone who pretty much just skis park. i'm in complete agreement that big mountain is where it's at, it gets me way more amped to ski than park... i spent most of today watching ski movie 2 & 3 and now i need snow or ill start trying to ski off my roof. that and seth morrison is god and stiched up his own knee (says jp auclair).

i seriously think that someone cannot call themselves a skier if all they do all day long is fuck around in the park and hang out in the lodge for 80% of the time...

now, dont get me wrong, the park and pipe are awesome for honing big mountain skills but when the park becomes the main focus of skiing, then something is warped inside your brain...

oh and also, the lodge is cool...FOR LUNCH that lasts 10 mins...i think that if you go skiing, you go skiing, hell...might as well eat out on the mountain

 
Big mountain and park are both awesome. for a while i only skied in the powder of new england. then for a year or so i was a park rat, barely ever leaving. then i went to whistler-blackcomb for a week and rediscovered big mountain, this time on real powder. its all a matter of preference and mood.

AND WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH INLINE????

 
i like watching big mountain in movies, but lets face it, park skiing is more exciting to watch. period.

however, i would take a powder day in the backcountry over a nice park anyday.

I have an idea, how about we worry about ourselves and not tell others how to ski. If someone likes to ski park, no one has the right to say 'he doesnt know how to ski' just because he prefers park over BC.

 
i think big mountain is just as exciting as park to watch. i think its absolutly insane what these people do and how easy they make it look. i think that they are both equally important in skiing because once people learn tricks in the park they bring them to the bc and thats where we are progressing to.

you dont always have to fuck her hard. in fact some times thats not right, to do. some times you gotta make some luuuv and fuckin give her some smooches tooo. some times you got to sqeez. sometimes you got to say please. anybody cutting up big mountain obviously has never done it. i would take a huge pow day over any park anytime. you can ride a park anytime, but on a pow day, that comes maybe once a month its the best thing ever

pollards riding the entire face fakie is quite possibly the gayest thing ive ever seen. what a fuckin waste of a run, its cool if ya wanna fuck around in the run out but not in the fall line.

 
pollards switch run gay??!! that is one of the coolest things ever. I'm sure he had a lot of fun doing it, so how was it a waste of a run?

 
The begining of our sports recognition, and its future are Big Mountain skiing. Progression will take all the tricks from the park to the big mountain, the ultimate park. Those who can do both are the sports future. Anybody can ride a chair lift up and make there way down a groomed run, but not everyone can understand snow science and what it takes to ski the perfect line.

big mountain? fuck that...this is NEWSCHOOLERS.COM you pussy...this is where real core skiers talk about core skiing...like how my mom just bought an H2 and she told me that she would never dream of letting me take it to the east coast ski hill where i only slide boxes on either my pe's, armadas or trouble makers...

ok its very simple. Big mountain is better to ski but its boring as shit to watch.
