I think the reason kids these days don't like waching big mountain skiing like they like waching park isn't cause they don't have appreciation for a well skied line. It's just that every line is filmed from a helicopter, alls you see half the time is a skier the size of a 2 inch dot on your screen comin down the side of a mountain. Imagen how much more exciteing it would be if they had closer shots, or more helmet cams especially behind a skier. I know it's alot harder to film with the filmer on the mountain with avalanches and all, but they need to start to experiment with better shots. Plus you get too see just how technical the lines are, and how much of the landings the skier can actually see.

I totally agree with you. When there is a helmet cam, or even a helicopter shot from behind the skier it is so much crazier looking. From the helicopter it looks easy and generic.

I enjoy watching park much better. But, im sure its a hundred more times of a rush to hit some huge big mountain that to slide a rail. I havent had the chance to hit any good lines. Either way, i'm thinking of a clip of shane in happy dayz where they have a follow cam of him rippin up the moutain. I have seen a few helmet cams in tgr flicks but i am not too fond of them. Follow cams are where it's out. Too bad, its so hard to get good footy off such a crazy line.

i totally agree with u guys. big mountain is the best skiing, but i think the reason lots of 'kids' don't watch it is simply because they can't do it. they prefer to watch videos in the park cause thats where their familiar with, the back country is exotic to them, and they're not interested in trying new things. just wanna try and get better in the park. thats why there r so many good park skiers that can barely get down a black or a tree run.

i think a lot has to do with the fact that in big mountain skiing, they can't flow through their line unless they have a helicopter because if it begins to get exciting and you want to catch it close up, the skier has to stop let the camera man get in the right position and then go for it, to make it really exciting you would need a person filming on the helicopter, then a few camera men all the way through the lines in spots where they might be doing something big. Then they would have to take all those shots and edit them together, and because it is so expensive to film, it probably wouldn't work because of the fact that the market for skiing videos is so small they wouldn't make any profit.

i agree with most people when they say, its much better to get a closer shot, yeah shanes segment in happy dayz was sick with a lot of up close shots and some helmet cam, where some peoples big mountain is, not so so much helmet cam, and mostly a helecopter view of the tiny little dot skiing down the mountain, like in ski movie 3 u get a helmet cam view of seth straight lining it all the way down the mountain and then they show a helicopter view, u can easily tell the helmit cam is much more sick and easier to appreciat wat big mountain skiers r doing these days

i dont have the attention span to watch a skier turn down a mountain for some times up to 20 seconds i need shot after shot of slowed down clips other wise i am fastfowarding through it

 
no matter wat movie it is i always watch seths segment over and over, to see wat hes pulling off of fucking huge cliffs, maby to u, u dont find it interesting but i do, i think if more and more big mountain skiers started pulling the shit he does off the cliffs he does, than big mountain skiing will definitly become popular again

I don't enjoy whatching a dot either, I think there should be more filming of the Big mt. guys in resort Backcountry, or using a cat, or sled to reach their destination, and take the footage from the ground.

following with the helicopter right behind i always thought was a good idea but some of these production crews just don't have the time and the energy to pull of good camera angles like on the mountain itself

 
I think another reason some kids don't like to watch big mountain is because they are posers, they ski just because its 'cool'. Anyone that is a real skier can apperciate every aspect of skiing, no matter what it may be. Also, a lot of those kids are to scared to go in the bc and rip it up becasue it's to dangerous, the ground doesn't move in the park and the ski patrol is there whenever you need them. Basically what i'm saying is its all about respect and your true ideals behind a sport we know and love. Also, that would be sick if you could have a shot like you are talkin bout.

i think big mountain skiing has gone down hill in the last few years, this is just my opinion, morrison is one of the few progressing it, i see more and more shots were skiers fly down the face avoiding every chance to take air and it just pisses me off, i know air isn't everything but they seem to avoiding it more... i also think purely lines with snow and rock are another problem... i love skiing lines but trees and make it more interesting and a challenge, watch global storming, that hasthe best big mountain skiing in the last few years

i totally agree with backflip, i do have a great appreciation for big mountain its hella hard and just crazy shit goin on now, but its hard to mix it up in big mtn, seth and mconkey are doin it, but theres just not the variety that park has

I'd so much rather ski a line than watch someone ski one on video. Videos don't do big mountain justice, which is sad because it's so great to ski. Shooting big mountain is so hard, and then how do you edit to make it interesting to watch? It's kinda like watching a crosscountry MTB race. You know it's hard to do, you know it's fun to do, but it's pretty lame to watch.

crystal needs: in response to your post above, where you said that backflip and i are probably from east of the rockies- i speak solely for myself on this one- i can absolutely ASURE you i have skied ten times more big mountain than you and will continue to rip it harder than you could ever imagine- but thanks for your assumption

3. I LOVE big mountain. It's SOOOOO sick! That probably has a lot to do with the fact that I've lived in Alaska my whole life, and we have some of the best big mountain skiing and heli-skiing in North America (if not THE best). We also don't have a very good park, so yeah... That could contribute as well.

4. High Life is mostly big mountain. There are some nice segments from when they were in Europe (primarily France... Wow, so beautiful), and there was that humerous clip of that French (I believe) skier who was talking about how Americans are pussy skiers and Europeans are the ones who go big and whatnot. The biggest park segment was probably Candide's, and damn... It was SOOO beautiful.

You've got to remember also that a lot of these 'kids' live in the midwest or out east, or anywhere else where they just don't have access to big mountains.

If I had never skied big lines myself then I would have zero appreciation for how sick it really is.

^ Yeah that is true to a point there is alot of use out west and it seems not to be alot of kids hitting the Big Mountain i dont know why. But at Bogus there is no sign of Big Mountain so i have to try and make trips to Jackson Hole and Grand Tragee and places that have bad ass terrain.
