For big mountain longer is always better. If you're 5'9 you better be a pretty agressive skier to handle 188s, however, If you are into killing huge powder fields at close to 50mph those are your skis. If you are more of a billy-goat and like quick technical turns in rocks, and trees you want the shorter ones.

When you assume, you make an ass out of u and me.(think about it)

'My knee hurts' (Jeff Merat after grinding a lunch table for an hour instead of sitting in the ski patrol shack for his torm mcl and acl which he got earlier that day.)

'I'm not asking for any help, just mabe for you to get off your ass.'(my dad)

Just my personal opinion, but I'd get 178's. I'm 5'8 and I ride mostly big mountain. I don't know your ability and how much powder you ski, but 188's seem a little big. That's just me though.

dude you wanna rip right? get the bigger ones. my friend has the 188's he's 5 9 probably 160 lbs. they definately rip. soft tips so you'll still be okay in moguls. BIGGER IS BETTER if you get the smaller ones your going to feel like you came up short. but of course it all depends on how you ski - how aggressive you are.
