Big mountain competition.

Comps are a ton of fun dude, I competed when I was younger and they’re a great place to meet other skiers, see sick skiing and push yourself as a skier.
I have no experience with big mountain comps but comps are more strategic than you think, if you land a safety run be prepared to send yourself the second regardless if you might crash.
it can be super nerve-racking standing at the top before you drop in for your run but I promise you no one will give you shit if you fall or put a safe run down.
just have fun and send it dude- it’s what competition is all about. Fuck whatever place you get, the feeling of putting a nice run down or placing better than you expected is the bees knees.

Don't follow what everyone else seems to be doing, pick the line you're stoked on skiing keeping in mind that the more/bigger features you link up, will improve your line score which is the most important aspect of the judging.

Yea bro I compete ifsa and am in 15-18 category this yr. The first comp is going to be super nerve-racking so expect that. If possible try and ski the venue the day before just so you can scope it all out without seeing all competotors. Visulize your comp run a bunch in your head super important. Judges often look for a line with a lot of flow, and make sure to carve, sounds wack but they like that kind of racer controlled style. Also dont ski the gut of the run, and only hit cliffs that u know u can land. So many kids crash going super fast and wild, so stomping something solid can rlly help. Also the ifsa community is the sickest thing once u meet kids, so def try to make sum friends. hit me up on ig for any questions or anything.
Yo man this is dope! My one piece of advice is that if yo aren’t on a team and skiing independent make sure to be extra on top of things. I was on tons of waiting lists to get in a comp this past year but never even got to compete. I’m trying again but I don’t ride with a big mountain team so it’s kinda hard. You on a team or goin solo?

I expect you to compete once, realize how pathetic you are at skiing and you'll quit forever.

Edit: if you’re looking for better info from people more geared towards big mountain (Newschoolers is mostly teenage park rats) head over to TGR forums. It’s more big mountain/free ride than here.

IFSA just sent out an email regarding the FWQ series, nothing set in stone yet but it seems that most competitions will still be taking place. It's likely that the ranking system will be different though in order to prevent extensive travel, travel between Canada and the US being limited could cause a split series. Hopefully we will get another update soon once resorts confirm competition dates.
