Big mountain comp in xgames?

Anybody think that there should be a big mntn comp in the xgames and just more of them throughout the year in general?

yea big mountain snowmobiling. where skiers do a runa nd everyone does it on a snowmobile and gets more props.

That facet of the sport does not need the x-games, at all. I could go into why, but right now I will just say no.

ahem.

no. big mountain comps in general are pretty stupid, why make them bigger? it would be a huge waste of money and it would likely ruin big mountain skiing.

i'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you mean that big mountain comps are stupid, and not big mountain skiing.

seriously this is the dumbest idea in the fucking world... I happen to compete in these and they are a two and three day events. and with todays media of right here right now there is no fucking way. so to the creator of this thread please stop talking and the world will be a better place....

big mountain is dope as hell but no way it would make it into the xgames for the simple fact that it wouldnt be marketable enough. For random people that watch the xgames they would rather see someone hitting a jump doing a spinny-spin flip than see backcountry, its just not that interesting to people that dont participate in the sport.

Thats exactly why they have those obnoxiously huge big air ramps for skateboarding in summer x

i figure a lot of the hardcore skiers and competitors would hate the idea but honestly, i think its a sick idea. itll bring money to the comps and ive talked to a few people who do the tours and they barely have enough to make it to the comps themselves- forget about making anything close to a living off it. bring money into the sport, whats so bad about that? commercialism? come on get over yourselves. if you dont want that, then dont compete at all. i say itd be good for the sport.

Its not that we are fighting it. I would love to see it in the xgames but if you look at how they are set up the event is suppost to be a half an hour with a certain number of people going. It is just not feasable to take up three days worth of programing to show this event... it is not that they dont want it... I know people that are higher up and they think that big mountian is the shit, but they know that to make a buck you need to please the most amount of people in the shortest amount of time... the other thing is that many mountians cannot handle a big mountian event.. (Crested Butte might have been able to do it but it is over the hill at buttermilk so thats not happening) The other things is that ESPN wants the best for thier athletes and the athletes expect the best from the Xgames and controlling the snow is damn near impossible....I like the cold rush idea though show clips of the Big mountian and Live coverage of the park would be sick....

you know that all of the events in the x-games take at least two days right? they only air the finals and maybe some of the pre-lims. i agree that it'd be hard to find a mountain that can host it but as the snow condition goes... all big mountain comps are set ahead of time and aside from some rare extreme white-out conditions and very very high avy conditions, they are held no matter the weather or snow condition just like any other comp. air just the finals and people will easily be pleased.

Dude have you ever watched one of them online ten people can take anywere from half an hour to 2+ and yes you could close the areas but it could also not snow... The X games as they are set up right now are made to happen no matter what the snow pack is and as was seen two years ago with skiing made to happen even when the conditions are not perfect and yes they do take two days but you have to prepare for the worst and every x games course could be cleared in a matter of mintues if the worst happened. In Big mountian as seen this year in alaska when the worst happens it could be a matter of hours before the course is clear... and ESPN wants to bring live entertainment and today's society if its not happening then they are not watching it... Im not trying to fight your ideas im just stating the facts that I have heard from other people.

defeniatly big mountain is so sick and if they can put rally car racing in the olympics big mountain could be in there to

of course that's what i meant, and to the people who called me a park rat i spend more time in pow than i ever have or will read the fucking post properly next time geez.

tanner would win, it should be best trick of cliff instead of technical difficulties on the run, tho.

ok you watched it online, good for you. ive been to them and it doesn't take long at all. depends on the venue. x-games does put events on hold or just straight up cancels them. remember how we didnt have a skier slopestyle two seasons back? and in that same year they pushed moto-x back a day. good thing about the x-games is that their sced. has flexibility and can change if need be. its nothing impossible- its actually planned for weather related delays. and a matter of hours to clear something is not a big deal. its happened with halfpipe a few years at the x-games. it snows and they gotta wait a few hours to slip the pipe. nbd son. nbd.

They could count it as just another stop on the big mountain tour. Think of the new zealand freeski open where they have pipe, slope, then big mountain. They would only have to show the finals on TV. I really don't see why not.

the xgames is the highest profile comp, but to those who run it it is first and foremost a tv show. Big mtn comps take too long to be shown on tv and are not of interest to most viewers who, as someone said, are much more dazzled by spinny flippy things.

You don't have to show the whole thing. Just the finals. And it's not like they show every rider for pipe anyway. Just the contenders. It would be the only chance af seeing any big mountain on TV. Besides I'm sure they could hype it up big time as being ballzy athletes who are putting their lives on the line throwing down flips off cliffs and straightlining gnarly chutes and shit.

HAHA, that's awesome, if there was a post of the day contest i would vote for this one

it would be hard to do becasue with the other events they can have within a few square miles they would have to go to the aspen backcountry find a good slope then some how get people out there to watch it im a fan of big mtn but it would be to hard

ahh shit good point. that's why there's so many spectators I'm sure. cause they can watch it from the bottom of the hill or their condo. well i guess they got to move the x-games to crested butte then

np. and to answer your question i wouldn't like competing in big mountain, that's the part of skiing that is the most chill for me and i wouldn't want to put pressure into riding big mountain. plus i'm not very good at park so comps aren't even high on my list of things to do. i just ski for the fun of it, not to compete.

Yeah, but rarely are the conditions in big mountain comps something you'd want to shred for total fun. No matter what the conditions are, you have to send it. If it hasn't snowed in a week, and there's rocks exposed, you better hope your body is tough.

Hahahaha Espn would have to find a way to make it entertaining for drunk red necks... Maybe give them shit loads of Red Bull and put collapsing pits on the course and wild animals??
