Big Mountain 2006-parks/pow/discussion

I will dedicate my 5000th post to pointing out it is 42 degrees, raining, and blowing hard outside. What the WTF. Pray for Powder!

i guess it was snowing yesterday up there while it was raining down here, but the snow was real wet still. we need some fucking pow!

well dave, it was warm today, but it was snowing all day, and the park was SICK. j/k... i actually didnt go over there, but the canyon was probly the best ive had this year, and there was plenty of inbound pow, id guess if it keeps up snowin the basin should open up in the next week or soish

Comp this weekend, I prob will not be going due to my grandma being very near her last time on this earth. God damn, i hope they have better prizes though than some gay ass tattoos. Let me know how the park is though, the park seemed a bit weak when i was there last as far as being big enough for a cool comp, but well see. Im sure they will change some shit up and make jumps bigger with better landings hopefully.

good day kind sir's.

so i'm going to be hitting up big mountain on like the 14th or something. i'm just wondering. what's their pipe like? is it shaped yet? is it a good pipe?

smoke and a pancake?

The pipe is not shaped yet, but i imagine it should open within next couple weeks. There appears to be plenty of snow and the weather lately has been enough snow day to day to get enough coverage on the walls is the only place lacking. Hopefully they are blowing snow as we speak. When the pipe is finally ready it is sick for sure, its nice and long and plenty steep.

We know. You were in the terrain park.

In related news, the comp went down today, and everybody threw down. Big ups to the BMFT, who dominated shit like it was nothing. Lots of good prizes.

And I spend the day ripping pow. I can't believe people would be in a slope comp on a day like today.

Seriously, though. I had more fun today then i ever will for a long time. The powder was sick everywhere, riding with my buddies. Most of my friends i wont see again after high school, but i will remember this awesome powder day. Front flippin right in front of the chair, hikin, i wouldnt want to have it any other way.

a few buddies and i were in fernie this weekend. FUCKING EPIC! 14 new inches overnight the first day then we stayed saturday night and it got id say around 4-5 inches plus some of the bowls opened up that werent opened on saturday so it was absoltely sick. i had a run that was probly in my top 3 of my life today. so many face shots it was amazing

yeah dude for sure. by the way try putting a [/img] on the second

yeah, i wasn't there so i cant say anything, but i heard the judging was pretty shitty and biased towards the FS team members

Big Mtn = Shitty Judging. Based on watching the comp footy, the kids that did win deserved it. Honestly though, the field is wide open for people to show up, throw down, and pick up some cash.

in "Off the Grind" it had a picture of one kid doing a front flip, I don't know how he placed though, and Andy had a sick 5 sequence, but i think he got 4th and he did some backside stuff

more steeze, but you could huck if you really wanted to. They're not too big, maybe like 10 ft. then 20ft. then 30ft. Maybe, just an estimate.

the last one is probably the biggest and i had to huck a flat 7, so i doubt anyone could to a double invert. I want like a nice little 50 to 60 footer. With the little snow we are getting and they are making maybe we can get one. Im sick of big mtn holding back progression, i mean, the parks set up is the same as last year: sketchy ass jumps, small boxes. I will give them kudos for the raibow rail, but when the fuck are they putting up the s rail and down flat down rail? Oh and the halfpipe grand opening in december? Bullshit that thing wont be up until late feb to march. Thats why i dont do the comps is because everybody is just doing the same shit, 5s and 27s onto the box. Oh well and i know i shouldnt bitch because im sure its a lot shittier in other places but itd be nice for a big jump.

They repushed a good deal of the park yesterday, and the landings were pretty sick today. After talking to some of the park crew, they are losing a lot of their alocated cat time to the cats which are pushing up the pipe right now. I would expect that the pipe should open early Feb. or late Jan.

so great divides park is going to be sick!!!! they will have a flat up down (two boxes connected) a roller to jump(prolly 20 25feet) a jump line of 15 to 25 or somthing like that, to another jump with a big log in the middle of the deck that you can tap. there will be some big up pipe thingy. and a huge 40 foot urban down rail. at the end of our "pipe" there will be a 30ish and 40 or 45 footer. then our huge ass wall. it all looks really really sick. going to open tomorrow saturday the 20th i do believe the date is.

its gonna be amazing.....best ever in that park fo sho.

I went up friday and Sunday. Friday was inversion and sunny, I hit inspiration alot and hellroaring, northbowl, the usuals. Didnt even hit the park jumps that day just cause I didnt feel like it.

Sunday was alot sicker because the clouds went away and it got a little warmer. The park was going off and alot of peeps were there all day. The jumps were actually pretty dang sweet and I had alot of fun on them. The boxes and shit are sweet too, I was pretty impressed by the park today and it inspired me to finally get over my 270 on fear and I did some boxes and tried the rail once and ate shit, but luckily i didnt get hurt today which was nice. The sun got alot of peeps out, and the park was well maintained with good lips for all. I saw Dave throwing down some 270 ons the rail and switching it up on the rainbow as well as hitting the hip on the jump hill like a pro. i was watching from the chair. Anyways yea, alot of peeps throwing down in the park today and the halfpipe looks like its making very good progress and they will prob be shaping it this week if i had to guess. There is another big snow pile forming where the stepover jump was last year as well.

I hit the backside a few times in some moguls which were really sick and hit inspiration a bunch which is sick right now too.

Even from the cold temperatures, there really wasnt that bad of ice today. Definately hit up the park, its nice right now, jumps seem safe.

ha...ha.umm yeah it was great~!!!!

110% sarcastic ^

although that jump was really fun. and the up down rail was alright. noting compard to gd.

Thank you. I was wondering what happened when you ate it on the rail, as I missed the first part of the trick.

Big Mtn is rocking right now. If you are looking for pow and soft snow, hit up Georges Gorge. No joke, it has good snow all over it right now.

Rail Jam tomorrow night (friday feb 2nd), sounds like it will be a blast, I will be there for sure. I believe its a jam style competition which is sweet, and it will be nice to have more features to hit so people are spread out and we get more runs. Who else is going?

Found this on bigmtn website too, sounds sick!! The park is actually getting better.

New news in the park. We now have 3 new features, a 28’ urban rail, a

28’ flat down flat rail, and a 40’ up-flat box. The park now has the

following features 10’ table top jump, 30’ step down jump, 30’ table

top jump, 16’ flatbox, 16’ shotgun rail, 28” rainbow rail, 20’ c box, a

28’ urban rail, a 28’ flat down flat rail, and a 40’ up-flat box.

Yayyyy new jibs

I think im going to enter it. It will be the first comp ive ever entered, my feelings on competitions are like pollards, they hold back the sport. I ski for myself and dont need to feel im better then anyone. But this time im going to make an exception and do the comp because A)the rails will be in "perfect" condition B)I wont have to worry about hitting kids, because after i saw that cab 7 to helmet tap ive been scared C) i have nothing better to do on a friday night. Look for me to be the kid just goofing off smiling after i fall because i will.

Haha, that says 28 inch rainbow. I would participate but I will be setting up the third annual YETI Snowskate Jam. Everyone should come Saturday afternoon in downtown Whitefish at the Kiddie Park.

I was up tonight. The urban rail will be pretty sick ( it's an urban wheelchair rail, we will call it that), I helped park crew get that going, and the landing is buttery. The FDF is fun as well as the box setup at the bottom. I will be interested to see what goes down on that thing. ShSki was killing it, with switch on - FS switch up- BS270 out on that box today. See y'all tomarrow.

The rail jam went down, and lots of cool stuff was thrown. A recap:

Dar Johnston threw a really sick on-rail 3 over the rainbow.

Dever (conceptkid) had some sweet stuff on the up -drop-flat box.

Logan Walker was doing 270 disasters on the rainbow rail.

Somebody from missoula, don't know his name, but he was killing it. 270 to about 7 switchups on the up-drop-flat box, he should have won, but got third. Dustin Moran got second, after a night of killing it. Some idiot by the name of David Steele sat on the top spot, but definitly wasn't supposed to be there because of his wack style and lack of ability in general.

Yo, yea the rail jam was sick!!!!! I had alot of fun. I was soo stoked I got the 270 on and switchup over the gap on my last run. It did kind of suck that it was pretty icy around the landing and it hurt like a bitch to wreck. I was sooo sore yesterday and now today from that jib session but it was worth it for sure.

That guy from Missoula that got third I thot for sure was going to get 1st, he had ill steeze and was really good on jibs. His name is Peter and his buddies name is Jordan, they go to the U of M in Missoula and are originally from the east coast i found out, so that explains their jib skills. David had some ill shit going down on the rainbow and box too.

There were some illl snowboarders there too. That little kid with the orange oakley coat is fucking sick, he won the boys division i think, no contest. This kid named Joel has illnasty steeze too and I'm surprised he didnt place.

The park is actualy pretty sick right now and by next weekend should be off da hizzook. The halfpipe is well on its way to being completed, they were blowing snow and pushing it all weekend and there looked like plenty of snow to finish it. They are also blowing snow for two new jumps where they were last year. Those will prob be done by this next weekend too.

So, next comp is the halfpipe comp and that should be reallll sick. Hopefully it wont hurt as much as a rail comp, lol.

Wanna talk about sore? After the rail jam, i was deadly tired. The last run i took i decided just to zero spin it and i landed really awkard on my left leg. Yesterday when i was skiing i was fucking around in a little jump. I went to do a unatural 3 and got off balance, when i came out of it i hit my left knee on my chin. I thought i broke my jaw. The next person i see after seeing stars is my buddy, and hes like oh shit james your bleeding bad. My chin had gotten split open and had a small gash. After bleeding for about 4 hours my friends decided that it was a good time to take me down to get it checked out. But yea i had a blast on the rail jam and conquer that the cat from missoula should have won, no offense to david though.

the park was pretty fun today. soft alndings on the jumps, not icy. CJHski and I took some No Poles laps and actually had a lot of fun. it wasnt as hard as i thought it would be at all, but definately fun to mess around with. the rail jam sounds pretty sick, i kinda wish i would have done it. oh well, I HOPE IT IS DUMPING UP THERE RIGHT NOW, like it is down in whitefish

I was just looking at the Big Mountain website and found this:

We are right in the middle of building a 45-50 foot "Step Down" jump that will amp you to throw it all down on Montana's largest "Hip" jump. Within the next few weeks, the TPC (Terrain Park Crew) will be polishing the "beginner," "intermediate," and "expert" parks. Hope to see you all soon!

and

We are currently estimating the opening of the Pipe for Feb. 10th, but will continue to update you on the timeline.

or check out the whole article at

http://www.bigmtn.com/index.php?a=events/park_pipe

That will be sick if they have a huge hip where the step up was last year.

Damn slope won with regular 7s and spins on boxes? and 270s won the rail jam? I wish i woulda known about these comps i woulda came.
