Greetings fellow Montanans,

With all of this talk about people skiing in CO and Utah, I got inspired to make a thread about the Big Mountain and peoples upcoming thoughts and also to get input during the season updates/daily stories.

I have a season pass and am done with my bachelors degree so I have alot of time to spend at Big Mountain this year. I am praying they get a better park though. I wanted to try and get a job on the park crew to make it way sicker, but I decided to work the current job I have and drive up whenever possible, which will be alot. So I hope to get some input in and hopefully spend some volunteer time helping set up some shit. This is like my only beef with the Big right now, is the park. Hopefully the halfpipe is setup sooner too. The rest of the mountain is run very well it seems.

It's looking like a great start to the season so far. One thing that I love about the Big, is all of the natural features, alot of safe cliffs, fast as hell chairs. There is a ton of terrain to explore, some really good backcountry that is safe. The list goes on...

Anyways, I just kinda felt like making a new thread to cure the Montana forums of the staleness feeling. :)

Fellow Big Mountain people post here giving your input, as well as others opinions on it and those who are going to come to it this season.

I was thinking about coming up there for new years this year but I'm not sure. How is big mountain on new years?

big mtn on new years is pretty sweet. especially if you're of age.

i think the park will be better this year. it looks to me like all of chair three will be a park because they put in another beginner chair down by the glades. and the halfpipe might be there for more than 3 weeks this year.

I was up on the mountain today doin a little jibbin' on the man made snow piles at the bottom. It was kinda fun. But the midmountain area needs snow badly.

I have heard a rumor that Doug Nangle is head of park crew this year. If this is the case, and grooming gets their rear in gear, we should have a realllly sick park this year, as Doug is a very talented skiier and a hard worker from his years of freestyle, which should transfer over to the park and benefit us all.

We will be going up tomarrow, and I"ll post some pics later tomarrow.

Holy shit. I went up today, and stumbled on the features for next year. HELLS YES! THIS IS GOING TO BE FUCKING SICK!!!!!!!

We have:

A 20-25 ft S rail

A 30 Ft rainbow rail

A 30 Foot flat down flat or down flat down flatbar

A 20 Ft flatbar

An 8 Ft wallride

Plus the two medium boxes, shotgun, bazooka, fat box, and trap box that we had last year. I have no idea where the flat down is. However, this could make for a sick rail section in the park this year.

dude thats so sick. i have been hearing rumers the last like 4 years that we were getting a wallride and an s-rail. looks like they are finally getting their shit together. that is so sick dude.

The wallride is in the back, with the DFD in front of it upside down. The rainbow is over it, and the flatbar is infront of that with the short down section attached and the S rail is in front.

Bigger.

I started jumping up and down when I saw this. I can't wait. My setup for the rail jam: DFD and rainbow set up off the same wide lip, then the S rail, and then the wall ride at the bottom.

sweet, im glad they finally got their shit together the year i go to college. thanks alot big mtn! haha im only kidding, im super excited for all you guys who get to ride there this year. it should be sick. i'll be up there probably most of christmas break just takin it easy and cruisin along. i'll be looking for you guys to be killing it though! whats the snow situation look like right now?

We definitely don't have as much as last year at this time, but a recent snow storm helped give some descent coverage. We should be able to open on Thanksgiving. I have a friend who hiked it and skiied Tony Matt today, so I'll get a report from him. It looks so-so from the valley.

The rails are nothwest of hibernation, up by where the cats are kept. Please, Please, Please, DO NOT MESS WITH THEM. The last thing you need is a criminal suit from Big Mtn for hitting a rail of theirs early season. They will come soon enough... .I hope.

I just set up the s-rail yesterday and it was sick!!!

just kidding, I only want to look at their glory

well i have decided that they must be serious about the park this year..check this shizzit out it was the shot of the day on the bigmtn website.

Last weekend was sick. Alot of easy accessible shit was tracked out, did some hiking and got untracked as usual. There was a fun small natural table on the backside on the way to the chair. Alot of coverage, i was surprised. I didnt hit a single rock anywhere.

Going up in the morning, probably going to be a bit icy lol. Would be cool if they had at least one jib setup :).

According to the website, the shotgun, rainbow, and flatbox are set up, along with a small jump. Should make for some fun.

I'm coming down from Whistler for New Years. Hopefully you'll get some more snow by then. Where should we plan to go to party for new years? Last year we were dancin on "the stage" (actually a pool table with plywood on top if i remember correctly)at Caseys, it was fuckin awesome. Whitefish is the shit! If anyone wants to ride between dec. 29 and Jan. 1st message me and I'll show you whats up when you come to Whistler.

I dont like the downtown scene really, but thats just me. I enjoy going to someones house on new years with good friends and just hanging out and staying up late. But also gettting up early to ski. :)

There will be enough snow, Im impressed with how much coverage they have right now. I ended up taking a gnarly front side run the other day and there were logs everywhere, but there was still enough coverage I got down it safely and didnt hit any rocks. It was hard to get down, but I made it. I wouldnt recommend it though unless you are fairly skilled on crusty snow skiing. The cold temperatures up there have kept the snow in pretty damn good condition. Groomers are fun and fast, you get alot of runs in.

There are finally some clouds back now and the inversion went away so we can definately expect snow.

last year we just hung out in the village. there were a lot of people there and it was great fun. man i cant wait till i can come back from college and hit up the bars. only three years. FUCK

yeah last year we were on the mtn and i didn't think it would be a good day to ski on new years day so id idn't bring my ski stuff and sure enough i woke up on the 1st with a big headache and a ton of freshies and no ski stuff.

This New Years is going to be off the hook! There is going to be a couple parties on the mountain in some hopefully sick condos. If not Caseys will have it's usual "stage" with the pole for you to dance on. I'll let you know what's going on closer to new years, it's still a little early.

The mountain was pretty sick today. Lots of pow and it seemed like no one else was up there.

No idea. Of course, Big Mtn can't have their shit together and have an online registration with the release waiver linked, because they are Big Mtn. I must give props to Fernie for putting on such dope events that are cake to register for.

oh im stoked on tomorrow, i had to have a rest day today, i've pretty much gone from minimal excersize and maximum studying at school to no studying and maximum excercize. but tomorrow, oh its gonna be on! jea.

well for one, i was drunk b4 i got up there, so that probly helped, but um under chair 1 couple times, 4/5 line, good med... but the front had a weird crust like 2/3 the way down... blackbear under the chair, off to the side of bighorn, and after bighorn, and some other locations which cannoot b disclosed

WTF is up with our park right now. I had such high hopes. It hasn't been groomed in forever (read: ice landings), the jump onto the flat down box is way too low and is killing people as well as equipment, and the jump makes me laugh. I had so much fun ripping the Nose of East Rim today, it felt good.

oh come on, its supposed to be "montana's premier park" lets be more optimistic! yea, no. man i've decided that i like skiing during the week waaaayyyy better. less gapers, and children that have to go to school. es muy bien. yeah so i'm gonna be ripin' this week. should be grand.
