Big lines vs Big rails

it seems to me that everyone is getting away from actual skiing and turning to just rails. i dont know, but i have way more respect for guys who can put the whole picture together like morrison and mcconkey rather than straight jibbers. mabye its just cause i grew up racing and have a ton of respect for great skiing.

seth morrison rules did any of you see the big mountain jibbing on bella coola, where they brought that one big rail in skimovie 2 that they made with them on the helicopter, that was cool yea seth and jon are awesome

yeah i'm into boobs i like boobs a lot, and skiing is cool too i guess

i live in New Hampshire. New Hampshire big mountain is a double negative. so rails are all we have. but if you have the ski bm all the time, you should be able to throw down.

what's with all you boys and your fine china? yes tj, im talking to you.

i ski and skateboard. seriously why would i take my skis and go jib? ´that´s like going big mountain-riding snow with my skateboard.

but whatever if you think it´s fun i´m just old and slow i guess.

here in France we have big mountains and rails...

i think it's better to do all in ski, not to focalize on jibbing or to be always in the park...

love ridin big mountain but bein from ontario, that poses a problem. i can't wait to move to whistler!!!!

I dont think anyone who is a pro jibber sucks at skiing, if thats what yo uthink, you are very ignorant. Its a new facet of the sport, and it takes balls to do a sick rail as much as a hairy line.

i don't know...i've seen way too many people who can do cork 9s yet can't make a technically correct turn. i'm gonna break heads if this turns homo and starts to look like inline...jumping down a rail w/your ankles all tweaked out is gay compared to a cork 7 on skates.

the east coast sucks, big boobs are great, Shane McConkey is GOD, and bringing jibbing to the big mountain is where it is at. -said.

Lines and cliffs are better than rails, anyday.

I don't sit shaking after i just skied a rail, the same way i would be if i just skied a nutty line.

rails are fun to play with, and I dont deny they take alot of skill but big mountain blows jibbin away and anyone who dosnt agree probly never ripped a line on a powder day

I am not dong the grabs because I am getting a thrill out of touching my ski-JP Auclair

for me it all depends on where i am and how i am feeling on that particular day. at alpenttal its all about the backcountry. at summit, its all about the park. at whistler, if its a pow day big mtn, if not, park. or it depends on how i am feelings. some days i just like to cruis, others i liek to do pow, and others just kinda dink around in the park. some of the best days of skiing for me have been in the park on a friday night when its dark and just messen around and learning. also some of the best have been in alpental Bc on a pow day. tis all how ya feel and where ya are.

just my two cents here-

its not fair to the younger athletes today to say that people like Morrison and McConkey are better skiers because they can 'Put together the whole picture'

Maybe three years ago when straight legged switch backflips and regular backflips were cool, that statement might have flown. But to say that now is ridiculous. Sure by many peoples standards McConkey and Morrison are good park skiers, but in reality they can't hold a candle to the new younger riders. These days guys Like Olsson, Tanner, etc. etc are on an entierly different level in the park, on rails, and off backcountry jumps. A level that the best big mountain skiers have never been at, or more than likely will never be at. In reality they are missing just as much of the jibbing side of skiing as jibbers are missing from big mountain.

Not to say that Morrison or McConkey are bad skiers. Infact like you said, they are some of the best skiers EVER, just not for the reason you said.

Comparing Big Mountain to Jibbing a rail is imposible and a waste of time. They are two very different things. I think what you should do is realize that what these young kids are doing now IS great skiing. Just A DIFFERENT KIND of great skiing, that should be respected just as much as any other aspect of the sport.

end of story.

You say you like racing- well, if someone wins a gold medal in slalom, but can't place in downhill does that make them less of a skier? You might argue yes, but realisticly if they can win a gold medal in slalom they are a pretty fucking sick skier regardless. Same goes for park and big mountain. Just different aspects of a cool sport.

eastcoast sucks? you don't know how good you guys have it, move to wisconsin and THEN bitch.

big mountain is fun. rails are nothing. i don't give a shit about them. if a see one, i'll try it(and burn). if i had a chance to ride big mountain, i'd take it anyday. it looks so fun.

i like to do both, well i cant really do rails. I think the name 'big mountian' needs to change cuz u could say i do that stuff but its more like hiking triple drops in the backcountry and skiing really difficult lines in this wierd revine. But most of the actual stuff is only 200 feet long or less so calling what i do 'big' kinda feels wierd.

'powder before pussy'

Mig mountain skiing slaps rails down anyday, Dropping of cliff bands or carving up an ubntracked face is much more fun than playing on little rails.

Freshies for a week after a dump? Temple Basin - Hell Yeah!

you know what the only way to prove you're a real skier is to drop down a mad ass kline then finish it up with a mad rainbow , but misty nine knows whats going down, we need to keep in touch with the big mountain roots

here in ontario, if we get knee deep powder we fell like the luckiest people on earth.

at tali, our equivalent to big mountain is to 10ft drop into deep pow out of bounds

matt, have you ever seen turpin or mercon ski man. no, because they cant. sure they rip up the park, but they have to walk down to it.

you can't compare the two. ones not better then the other they are different aspects big lines and big rails are both crazy

im sure they can ski..they are only showed doing jumps int he movies cause thats what they do best...turpins the man..
