Big jumps

ok so im still sketched about spinning off big jumps i can do spins over like small stuff and rails dont bother me but when ever i try to spin off a big jump i speed check a little when i widen my stance and it slows me down, then i land flat and look like a gayper any suggestions on how i should come through this besides sacking up cuz im not intentionally speed checking i just do it cuz off smaller jumps i amost start to spin at the tip of the jump i carve it kinda

i hear that a lot, but i wonder if its true because usually knuckling sucks but how often do people really get injured BADLY from knuckling as opposed to overshooting...

ya like simon dumont probably wouldntve gotten injured at all if he had just knuckled that jump at park city. but i usually just charge a jump and dont htink about it.

ya but T Hall probably would have walked away from chads if he had overshot. i guess its slightly larger though.

Take more practice runs and get more comfortable on the hit. That always helps. Just wait until you start hitting big shit switch....now that's a ride and half....

i kinda have that same problem...but all i do is just hit it a couple times and straight air it to get the speed down perfect then throw the spins...seems to work real good for me cause then i know i have the right speed cause that worries me going off a jump and im thinking am i gonna clear it or whatever...so thats my take on it

basically, you just have to man up to it. No other way around it. And I think overshooting is better but depends on how far you overshoot. Like at stratton sunday i overshot the last jump that was about 40 feet ish by 20 feet to flat. Yeah. Fun. Not.

i'd say experiment with different speeds but just doing straight airs. them once u find how much speed u need to make it past the knuckle try and go the same speed when ur gonna spin

i ended up with a broken wrist a few years ago from overshooting... but thats usually when i have enough air to do anything. and i dunno the thing that helped me was not going for the huge spin right off the lip but kinda straight airing it halfway then kinda spinning so i end up landing switch, and once i had gotten the feel for that spinning the whole was wasnt too bad

yup how I broke my wrist to. I've never gotten hurt by knuckling so... yea i'd rather knuckle any day than overshoot a huge jump. there is no worse feeling than going off a jump and knowing right away you have overshot it and are fucked and there is nothing you can do but wait for impact.

I had the same problem for years, eventually you'll do one without the last second speed check and everything will start to work out.

dumont also overshot the jump by 100 feet so had he not been an idiot and gone so fast if he over shot by 40 feet he would have been fine

yeah i had the same problem what i did was just go used to the jump first by doing a lot of straight airs with grabs

i love going in air and looking total gayper style to get the speed right then going up and stomping and huge 540 haha that always surprises some people
