Big Jay

whats a good snow year? it just depends on how much there is at the time...last year was overal a good snow year, but we didnt have any until feb...

if theres 80 inches on the ground in december, ima cream my pants. i doubt ill be the only one

back to the thread, if theres 80 inches on the ground, then why are u worrying about snow coverage

its diff every year so no1 can tell u what itl be like until more towards december. jay usually does get a lot of snow durin a season tho

hook up with a local, ski with someone who knows where to go. Not a good place for people with no idea where they are going or the hazards that exist.

And we wont have 80 inches in december...would be sweet though

Ok so 80 inches in December would be sick... but over 100 INCHES by December 5th?!?! Shit... I came out to fucking Utah to ski this year and shit, its dry here. Vermont is being dumped on right now and I'm stuck in Utah... It had better pick up out here.

haha yeah but heres the thing, once it picks up out here the skiing is going to be better than anything we could get our hands in back in vermont. just a waiting game for now.

i was there yesterday sooooo much freshy fresh! id say find a local safest way to do it it woudl be super tough for someone to give directions to hike ya know

So because of that guy, there is rumor that the AMC is pissed and thinking about trying to close off Big Jay to skiing. I don't know any details, but I will try to find out more.

^not possible. yeah cutting the trail was a seriously dumbass move, but AMC doesn't have anywhere near the authority they think they do.

^if those guys got away with cuttin that trail and just skiied fresh whenever they want that would be so amazing

wutever happened to those guys anyways? charges? sentence?

im pretty sure they're facing a hefty fine. and no it wouldn't be good if they got away with it. it was wrong, there are plenty of natural chutes and with AMC on the prowl now there will be no brushing over the summers so in a few years the trail will be a bramble choked mess.

well i meant that the idea of your own trail with fresh all the time would be sick. i know it was wrong and those guys deserved wutever punishment they got

It is the GMC that is pissed right now- they are (supposedly) going to put up a big snowfence at the access gate. It will be "illegal" to ski as in the ski patrol can take your pass if they catch you goin gin on the resort side of the fence. I'm betting that there will be some drama out there between people that do and do not want the gash to be there. The only "politically ok" route up will be to skin up from the parking lot.

I think that the GMC is taking this way to far. Deforestation happens on a daily basis- every time you wipe your ass you kill a tree. Whats done is done and nothing is going to bring it back. Also the state forest is land designated for conservation AND RECREATION. There should be no problem with how people get to the mountain- and there sure isnt much differance between using a chainsaw and loppers for cutting a trail.

Sure, what these guys did probably wasn't the best idea but I thank and congragulate them and hope thy dont get to bad of a fine/imprisonment.

Thank you guys!!

I would really hope that no one would post how to get to big jay on here. Its not that hard to find but you have to know what ur doing first of all. Second of all what makes big jay good is that not many people ski it.

you idiot its a secret.

Thats why its so good. because we dont have noobs skiing it.

Anyone who does no please dont post how to get there.

Unless you want to ruin it for the rest of us.

up to five years in jail but i doubt they will get that.

I heard they did get some jail time though.

I saw the guy when i was working up a jay. he came up to talk to the owner Bill Stenger

Dont think he acceoted his apology

The OWNER bill stenger???

Are you sure you work at Jay??

Screw apologizing, Bill should thank them for bringing tourism into the area- think how many people will want to see it. hopefull they all get stuck long before the mountain with their winter tires on- haha

But hopefully no one will go out there- out of staters i mean- there could be ncreasing accident/rescue situations
