Big brand new interview on MICK D !!!!

Mik d is hated for the same reason jonny moseley is hated. they both got distracted by their fame and virtually stopped skiing. if a top pro skier chooses hosting a reality tv show, or trying to make phony rap music over skiing, people in the NS community have a right to think that's pathetic. sure, mik d and moseley have the right to do what they want, but it's kind of lame when skiing makes you rich and famous, and then you like being rich and famous so much that it makes you lose interest in skiing. people like jon, candide, and tanner will always be deeply respected because the money and fame doesn't distract them at all--and they use it to push the sport (Tanner's film company and investments, Jon and Candide's invitationals).
 
i dont think so...he thinks skiers shouldnt focus on huge ass spins and tricks and more focus on style, thats the only negative thing i picked out cuz he is rippin on people like jon and stuff but other than that he said he is sick of people hatin and it should be stopped...so i though the overall meassage was positive, it was a little overused but possitive.

before I even read this thread I knew this would be the outcome. People hating on one of the best skiers, who helped pioneer this sport. You are the fuel who is pushing this sport more and more towards acrobatics and the shit mick is talking about.

Unless you started skiing at or before propaganda came out then dont hate on this guy. unless you have seen his old segments from exact science, stereotype, red tape and strike 3, dont hate on this guy. unless you have EVER seen someone with more style that shit guy, dont hate on this guy... and shut the FUCK up.

This is the reason why i have lost my passion for skiing. Skiing was SO much better before everyone and their mothers were doing it. Before ppl judged you in the park depending on what tricks you were doing or what gear you have on...

I wish more ppl thought like mick D. Sure he has some fucked up ideas, but the guy knows his shit, and has a lot of good points.

basically everyone has their opinion. with the one comment about seein stuff come off of ns being way better... true but why is everyone so worried about better? Mickael has sick style. not everyone prefers to see huge spins. why cant we just be stoked to see a stylish 720 tail. the interview was pretty good hard to understand. i hope mickael keeps goin in the direction he is going.

think about it. how many of u asked urselves,"what ever happened to mickael?"

i think all of us want to see him around again. plus my friend met him and said hes mad cool.
 
I've always skied for myself and no one else. I don't care what people think of me, and neither should you. It's too bad you lost your passion because of OTHER people, I hope one day you'll be able to love it as much as you did before and learn to ski for yourself and no one else.
 
I'm no one, but I'm also rational enough to realize I don't know anything about people except for what I've been told, versus what I haven't experienced or encountered.

Also, unless one is involved in someone else's day to day life, you can't possibly imagine what they go through on a daily basis... so unless you have valid proof that Mikael spends his afternoons volunteering at homeless animal shelters playing with kittens, then it's pretty silly to say he isn't nearly as hard as pretends to be or whatever you said.

People don't live like he does unless they can back it up... they get beat down if they do...

But really, as far as pro skiing is concerned, he does everything he needs to to justify how he lives, sooo I don't really see the issue.

that was the dumbest thing ive ever heard. skiing isnt about being sponsored dude, its about doing what you want and having fun at the same time, not copying other peoples style and thinking that makes you good. Mik D is doing exactly that, and hes obviously throwing down.

one day you'll realize theres a lot more to life than skiing. and comparing that edit in the interview to what mosely did after the olympics is not an effective argument.

I don't agree with the image 9th and Mick D are trying to portray and I think their net effect for freeskiing is negative. Parents will be put off letting their kids get involved in freeskiing when they see kids charging around with semi automatic ski poles and generally giving it too much attitude. As far as I know, freeskiing did not originate in Detroit and yet. And yet...

"no one is promotin' style no' mo"... WTF?? has he smoked so much pot he has mistaken post-deschenaux freeskiing for asymetric bars? what's the most popular film this year? IDEA. Recent competitions- freestyle.ch: COMPULSORY STYLIE JUMP. King of STYLE- richard wins with sw. 7 double tail... need I go on? style is being championed now more than ever. perhaps he should quit the karaoke and actually show an interest in the sport HE HIMSELF IS HATING ON...

"My innovation to it, from dress style to new grabs" how is pretending you're a crack dealer from harlem represent innovation? and what grabs has he innovated? don't get me wrong, before he imploded as a respectable freeskiing star, Mick d's style was tight, but the people pushing the development of style now are lolo, pk, idea crew, candide etc. they are the ones actually innovating, mick d is just pissed coz he fell off the freeskiing freight train, got a crack addiction and is dying ignominiously of syphalis.

like i said, flame away, i've got time to kill and i'd be interested to hear what the next generation of freeskiers think...
 
all i got out of that is that he hates people who think skiing is cool. he's cooler then everyone else, ski companies aren't cool and if you dress any different then a gangsta your not cool. fuck him. he's a complete hypocrite.
 
its not that i really care about what other people think, but more the general atmosphere I find it the parks these days. Before when there was a smaller amount of 'newschool skiers' i felt like it was more of a tight knit community, where everyone was stoked on each other company, helped other ppl learn shit and were positive. That was more the point I was trying to make.

And I HOPE i can regain my passion too, because there was nothing I was more passionate about.

but he's speaking about cork 5 tail tip, sw 7, movies like session 1242, stereotype etc.... the evolution of skiing is no more about style..

now the ski is based on sw 10 and more... like dub flip, 810 in to 810 out and pretzel on urban

If you have been skiing for longer than 4 years in the park you would know exactly what hes talking about. That man said real shit in that interview, he may talk a little whack but all the shit hes saying is true, the atmosphere used to be so much better back in the day, and lately skiing has just turned pretty fuckin gay.

Anyways I just wanted to share that that was one of the dopest vids I have ever seen. Mik's style has always just had such a smooth flow with such care free style and its good to see that he still has it in him.
 
i thought the cockiness was kind of funny when he was talking about being invited to the open and x games when he was like obviously because i won it 2 year in a row.....but he is a great skier and i love his view on things and that he has his own syle, and loves what he's doing....that's what it's all about

i just got back from europe..the language barriers can be huge..so some comments that sound cocky are probably just words he feels comfortable using..and what is he ionvolved in? the rap industry so it makes since being around an environment that uses lots of slang/thug words he is most likely to use thouse

the only real statements i thought he made was his dislike for where skiing is going i.e. the huge spins on to rails and cab 1260's (spin to win) comps..remember this is the guy that in his early shit was doing butters and switch ups and loving it before others

im not calling him a god..there are so many good skiers out there right now that compare and beat him in skiing ability.. i just think that you shouold respect his ideas and try to get past the basic word oddities and try to give him a break and see what hes really saying

dont get me wrong, i think he was and still is one of the most stylie guys out there, i just think he is to cocky for being out of the game for so long. Like when he said "

I got invited to the X-games again and to the US open as every year cuz' i won it twice so that's the least they can do..." i mean he won the x games how long ago? and he is still cocky about that, i know he won it two years in a row, but wasnt it the same trick? idk maybe its just me, but he still has a lot of style, he just should not be soo cocky now a days

how can mik d hate on cab 12s and spin to win comps, and brag about winning the us open in the same interview? do you remember how he won the us open???? that motherfucker was the first to spin-to-win with the cab 10. he did it with style and he deserves props. HOW WAS HIS WIN DIFFERENT from TJ Schiller's or Charles Gagnier's? They deserve props for spinning 12s and 14s with style--they deserved to win for the same reason Mik D did.

side note: if you want to have little spats with people and describe your outerwear and philosophy on life, why not do it in a private message instead of a forum post?
 
um you're comparing charles gagnier and tj schiller to mik d. his win was different because he actually did a nice looking switch 10, not an absolutely haggard 12 or 14.
 
did you not read the interview? he said that the tricks he does are not necessarily different but he adds new things like body positions and grabs to make them stand out.

also he beat a sw 12 with a sw 10 blunt. if he wanted to spin to win he would've done a sw 14 mute with a t-set freestyle stance and a mute grab just like everyone else. instead he carved like a motherfucker, went corked as shit, did a blunt (hard grab for most people switch), and landed so nice that if he was holding a coffee not one drop would spill.

I like your reply, but Gagnier's 12 also stood out for the same reasons . . . the octograb and his body position stood out. He might have spilled some coffee on the landing, but it was quite a stomp for being 3/4 of the way down the landing.
 
alright, idoit. look at tjs 14, gagniers 12. the difference is, mik d can make a switch 10, look like a 7. notice how he actually goes UPSIDE down in his spin, to make it look smoother, and not as much rotation? instead of just grabbing and yanking the fuck out of whatever ski he has in his hand.

your just pissed off that your next 630 off isnt gonna be as cool as someones 270
 
you have a point there. like, a switch 12 octograb is definitely a lot harder than a sw 10 mute, but gagnier doesn't even come close to the flow that mickael has. mickael makes it so the whole trick comes together, the takeoff, the grab, and the landing. he smoothens out the transitions between those so much.

gagnier on the other hand, came hauling in directly switch with his ass sticking out, popped super hard and tweaked the hell out of his octo and then landed. now it is fine if you like that kind of style, no one can tell you what to like and what not to like i just think that mickael has a lot more style than gagnier.
