Big Air US Open

Looks like it's gonna be another medium sized air competition like X games, but bigger speed issues

Lets hope not. But to be honest...It really can't be much worse than that. At least theres more than 4 guys.

is anyone watching the live stream now, the screen goes through all the sponsors and then turns black for a while and then the sponsors come up again

anyone else getting this?

how is nick martini not in it? he got 4th yesterday.... meaning he beat most of the people who got in, can anyone explain this?

That was actually a contest of SW 1080. Tired of these... but I guess that what the judge like to see, too bad you need to spin to win.

Props to Clarkey for holdin it down in 3rd place. Eff yeah!

And props to Jossi and Colby holdin it down for Empire!

they didnt let renshaw in either, do they not do it by slope at all anymore? i remember in the past they took like top 20 slope plus like 5 random invites, i think it pretty bullshit that they didnt let alot of those kids in

This year, the US Open folk decided to include every HALFPIPE pre qualed athlete into Big Air, but none of the top finalists for slopestyle were guaranteed a spot. when the first list came out, the #2, #4, #5 and #6 finishers in slope werent in Big Air.

No kidding, tom or LJ should have been in there over at least 5 of the people invited.

any one know who exactly these "US open folk" are? or who anyone is who runs these huge comps? and what exactly qualifies them for their jobs? and why havent they been fired/murdered? besides the new pro skier run comps, all the big competitions seem to suck more and more every year...

Fuck if I know... I know Skiing Mag owns it, which makes sense that it would blow balls considering that Skiing doesn't know shit about our kind of skiing. But I think Mountain Sports International might operate it. Supposedly they've got some good people on their crew, but judging by screw-ups like this one, evidently the people in the know aren't always the people making decisions.

Mountain Sports International is a "sports marketing company," basically meaning that their intent is to "market" things, namely their sponsors and our sport; in other words, try to make it look cool so people will buy expensive things like Suzukis and skis. Their primary concern is how the event and the sponsor logos appear to the masses and especially to their sponsors, rather than how the event functions for competitors.

But hey, maybe that's a bit harsh. Certainly sounds harsh. Maybe I should have sugar-coated it a bit.
