big air; boring as hell

watched the us open big air comp yesterday. Alomst every hit was a switch 1080. While i think a 1080 is impressive, it got old real fast. Then some guy mixes it up with a zero spin and got pissed on by the announcers. Why don't they encourage variety to keep it interesting? Since they had a 3 hit format, why not mix it up? For example for one hit, limit the spins to 540's or less; for another hit only judge difficulty and the landing (so we can see some krazy shit). Any opinions?

once you begin to limit what tricks a skier can do, it becomes more and more like a FIS comp.

I understand what Joel is saying but there must be some kind of compromise in the middle.

I think a huge zero is every bit as difficult or harder than a 7. The announcers paid no mind to that at all.

 
the announcers/judges should be skiers themselves so they can respect a zero spin, and not just be impressed by a big spin

mike wilson should have gotten a way higher score than he did cause his wilson flip thing was perfect, and if people want the sport to progress, stuff like the wilson flip is going to be wut wins comps or else people are going to get bored of watching the same trick over and over

i hate how at every comp for really any sport riders are expected to do a trick and thats all anyone does (ex backflip on dirtbike, or in this case a 10)

we dont need to limit the kinds of jumps the skiers do, becuase welll the skiers do it for us. you know. but you cant blame them becasue thats what most judges want to see.

I think it was Jacon who did a damn smooth 720. I was luvin not sure though if it was him.It was against TJ and Tj put down an incredibly smooth switch 10

Pete is currently sulking around Mt. Hood, shooting with Poor Boyz Productions and hitting on Kristi Leskinen. She hates guys, Pete lamented, so it’s not going good. Apparently Canada isn’t the only thing that’s tough for Pete to get into.

I watched a Snowboard comp based on 2 jumps, one was balls to the wall big air, one could spin no more than a 5. It was pretty sick format.

The smart man does not know everything, rather the smart man admits when he knows nothing.
 
^^saw the same comp...it was so dope...you got to do one run base on style ans one based on tech stuff...it totally made sense.

Being out there skiing every day, good or bad, just playing around with friends, with no contests or filming- that is the real spirit of skiing for me. that is why i started skiing, and if i lose those moments that is what will make me stop skiing.
 
If everyone is doing 10s...then someone needs to step it up and huck a 12...thats what i say...i know a lot of you disagree but thats my view on it..
