Bi-Weekly video contest

so i figured this might be kind of a cool idea, kinda like the weekly photo contest but with video instead. I figured because it takes less time to get a good picture then it is to shoot and edit a video we should do these in 2 week intervals instead with 1 week of voting. Each edit should be from 1-3 minutes long same rules apply to this contest as do to the photo contests.

So first criteria... To get it started im going to leave it up to you. Submit your ideas by tonight and I'll pick the best one. if no one has submitted anything by the time i go to bed ill throw an idea of mine up.

Lets try to make this work

Nothing is set in stone, what ever you guys think, i would think keeping it shorter than three minutes would be good but idk. how ever everyone wants to do it

i say, to start out, since this iiiissss NS and we're all active. We can do something relating around sports-ish or activity (tramp, skate, bike, whatever) you know.. a simple 'edit'

alright so we'll go with^ keep it simple to start, this is just any sport edit. doesnt have to be skiing or anything like that it could be badmitton, just has to be about a sport, do straight ski porn style or make a story out of it what ever your style is. entry will close 2 weeks from today. (we're looking for video work not skill of person in video)

how about a mix, here is skiing, snowboarding, and moto, this is our un-used edit.

i like your thinking but i think it needs some adjusting.

I think the idea of this should be to try to get everyone to try new things and to create some new stuff. Therefor i think it should all have to be fresh footage, not old stuff. The 1-3 minute duration might be a little on the long side too.

and as far as judging goes i think it should go by the quality of the filming/editing, regardless of the talent. So if it's a ski edit and it's some horrible filming of kids throwing doubles, it should obviously get rated lower than a really well put together edit of kids doing 5s. But i think this is stay away from skiing for these summer months, and focus on creative filming and editing.

As for the topics i think it should be more of themes. Things like night, light as the subject, change, emotion, things like that.

Yes. I second this post.

That's the whole idea of the photo contest - you'll notice there are ZERO skiing photos in there, although I'm sure a bunch of those photographers have skiing photos that well show emotion or music or whatever their topic is now.

I would like to say that no, one shouldn't be allowed to use previous stuff - it won't be trying anything new.

Like Galin said, the idea should be to get people out there experimenting with their creativity.

The time limit should be shorter - in the interest of time...and interest.

Galin pretty much covered everything I had wanted to say. I think that this is an opportunity for people to try and improve their skills with video and be judged on the quality of their work, regardless (or at least with less emphasis on) camera quality, because it's obvious that in the video section, the nice ones are almost always rated highest (for good reason). But this way, filmmaking and the art of filming can take the stage. It's hard to do this when you're using previously taken footage of skiing...that only highlights editing with regard to the contest.

One of the thoughts we had was doing this for the first one being one place. Basically say you went to a kids playground the only rule is that you cant leave the playground and you need to try to capture it well and get a good sence of the space. does anybody like that idea?

^leave it to craig to pick a play ground.... But yeah that was gunna be my idea for the origional one. You cant leave say a 10 foot box and you have to capture the feeling of that one location in time in as many ways as possible. what do you think? this for next time?

Vote for a change now and we can have the deadline be 2 fridays from now? im deffanatly for it, all we have on ns is ski edits anyway might as well switch it up, ill start a new thread and get it going if i dont have any negitive feedback

Im going to feel like a creep going to a playground and filming.. I think guys my age could go away for a long time for something like that..

so what are the exact guidlines for this week. i feel like the 10x10 box is so mint. it would really challenge people and help focus the contest!

How about you have to keep whatever you shoot under 5 minutes, anything goes. After everyone has submitted their vid, there's a vote. Keep it simple?

I like your idea because its abstract. It will challenge your videography and editing skills. thats what we need. we need the video topics to be, and stay abstract. the challenge is not filming the box, its being the box, and communicating with the box. .... I dont know If I can find a box that big, my box may be smaller.
