Better than Tanner

Dumont and tanner are basically even. Schiller is close behind fallowed by candide. But Tanner just keeps coming through comp after comp. There are ppl out there who can beat him. They just havent yet.

HAHAHAHAHAHAH No way dumont is even close to tanner, dumont hasnt won one big slopestyle comp, there are 3 riders at a higher level than any one, JON, TANNER, CANDIDE,

watch show and prove, even if you hate the way the movie is done, youll see once again that Tanner destorys every aspect of skiing with the best style and a consistancy that has put him where he is today

i think schiller is fuckin badass... like that switch 14 mute, among other things.. but every single thing he does is fuckin sick.. plus, i like his style. but if your just going by whose winning all the comps, tanners pretty hard to beat

Making a comparison like that is really subjective. There may be people that are better than Tanner at park right now, so I guess you could be right there. But you also have to consider what he did to the sport, how many competitions he's won, and how he has become a household name in skiing. In that respect, there aren't really many people up there with Tanner. He's done a ton for the sport, now if only he could control himself a little better so skiers wouldn't be generalized so harshly by the public. This topic has also been beaten to death, resurrected, then beaten mercilessly to the ground again, so a quick search could possibly unveil all the information you could ever want and more.

No way Dumont or Schiller are at the level. Candide though, I'd put him on the same level as Tanner. One isn't necessarily better, they're much different.

dumont and tanner even, ya right. tanner is so much iller, and guess what, schiller is better than him, and candide is even better. this kids list is totally backwards! the reason people "can't beat him" is cuz contest judging is bullshit. Andy Mahre puts it pretty well when he says:

"I’m not too stoked on the park contests right now. The top 10 people always do the same run, there’s never a variety. A park contest is an opinion, not an actual event that gets timed."

the same guys DO do the same tricks, the same shit that is guaranteed to win. there is no way you can judge who is the best based on contests. if your list of riders were to be put in a list of overall radness...

Candide

TJ

Tanner

Dumont

TJ and Tanner are pretty close, they both slay all terrain/rails pretty much just as hard, but i think i like TJ's style a lil more. jea. longest thread i think i've ever posted. how gay.

in terms of performance under pressure in a terrain park, no, none are better than Tanner. But that's a pretty specific categorization.

tanner for urban, candide for pretty much everything else.

tj for his sick cab cork 5s trucker that is grabbed at the nose and mad tweaked

this is such bull shit how can qualify whos better than who. honestly can you really make a valid argument that tanner is better than candide or vice versa. its such bull. skiing aint basketball there are no statistics. thats the beauty of the sport. lame lame lame.

dude park is not all of skiing. yeah, TJ is way sick and can spin every different way really well and with style and can do all the rotation patterns but i haven't seen him kill a single big mountain line or do anything really technical on rails.

Tanner's been doing it all, and he's been the best at it, and he's been doing it forever.

you can't deny that shit. nor can you deny candide or jon or seth or pollard or pep. these guys are all just skiing superpowers. and thats that.

dose anyone agree or evryone really thinks you can actually say in all confidence yes tanner is nastier than candide. thats not the way i see it at least. ofcorse there are diff levels of skier for instance my self and at least half of you all are not on the same level as thovex...hall...dumont...olson...alosa...fujas..etc etc etc but that still dosnt mean that thier "better" cause to me its not about that.

tanner is better than all of those people at skiing/tricking in powder (Show and Prove), obviously urban (Show and Prove), obviously backcountry kickers (Show and Prove, and won every single major halfpipe comp this year. so yea hes the best

i disagree about the BC stuff and the skiing and tricking in pow. let's wait til Candide's movie comes out, because the trailer was quite promising.

Candide is the best by far... Jon and Tj are better at park but Tanner is the best at rails, CAndide is god though no one touches him you all undestimate him hes terje of skiing hes way better than tanner, tanner trys too hard his style is sick but its to forced , he had to work really hard to get the style he has, while candide is just a Cat he lands every thing he tries, goes bigger than anyone and destroys shit like no other.

i heard that tanner can do a cab nine, consume a bowl of ice cream, read not 3 but 4 novels, and sing the alphabet in reverse using an opera styled tone. Ya dun fuck wit dat.

well how are you judgeing who is the best skier? comps? steeze? i mean to mean tanner dominates both of those.

did u honestly just say that dumont, tanner, and schiller are all better than candide. Granted theyre all phenomenal skiers but cmon I really dodnt think you can compare them. COMPETITIONS DONT SAY WHO THE BEST SKIERS ARE

i just dont feel any of you all on this i cant say one of all the cats killing it hard and they all throw down real crazy hard is the BEST.....i know im gonna get shit but snowboarders talk so much less about shit like this thats why their cooler and more creative with thier tricks on the whole.

Candide of the kickers is pretty fucking good and I think is up there, And his vision on the mountain is gnarly as hell, seing that which I can't conceive. Tanner is just ill smooth as is schiller though tanner is clutch

i understand your arguement, but tanner has been the face of freeskiing since he entered the game way back when. people who know nothing about skiing will ask me oh man do you know that tanner hall guy, he is good. its like tiger woods or michael jordan, tanner hall is the person who represents freeskiing to those who dont participate in our sport and i think that says something about how dominant thall is when it comes to skiing

I don't like how Dumont just keeps doing switch 5's all the time. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think he's that good. Sure better than me, but you know...

Candide has way smoother style, but since Tanners switch 9 at Chads it's getting hard to put space betweent the two.

I rode behind TJ during one of his practice runs for the european open in Laax and that was so insanely nuts, it was him warming up and honestly I almost died, sooo nice, i think he was born on skis or something

it's pretty much an impossible question

I gotta agree wit Mr. EastAR5. Having seen Show and Prove, even if you aren't into the feel of the movie, Tanner's footage, for me, filled in the only thing I haven't seen him do yet which is hit natural features in a huge variety of terrain and conditions and still have nasty style and trick selection that complemented the hits he was doing them off of very nicely.

Him and Candide is stil a tough argument though.

Candid is a better overall skier, Tanner is still working on linking turns. I don't know what he did growing up in montana but he definatly has a lot of bad habits that I do not see in Candid.

Tanner really is the best competitive skier out there. You can't compare others to him because every skier is just so different.

Tanner is the best overall skier in the world, he can ski pipe, has a huge bag of tricks, kills it on urban, and is coming up in the backcountry. There are skiers that are better then him in certain aspects of the sport, but no one can really rival him on the overall scene.

gagnier in my opinion is the best at jumps and grabs but ive never seen him ski pipe. t-hall is the best all round skier like pipe park big mountia/bc booters and pep is probably tied with him

i dont like tanner as a person. but he is prolly the most well rounded freestyle skier. Amazing Video Parts and really good competition standings. He is just talented. Pep Gagnier Candide Schiller are amazing but just dont have the exposure and expirience that tanner has.

He actually skied moguls, although it definitely does not show at all in his skiing now. For Tanner to become a good all-around skier he needs to abandon his forced style or he'll never be able to ski the mountain well. It's as simple as that. You will never be able to rip a big line with your hands low and your feet way apart.

If Pep was immune to knee injuries, there would be no question. He's better than Tanner. You have to see the man ski to realize how good he is. He's got the consistency AND the creativity. When he used to live in Mammoth, he would do stuff on ever run that could make it into a film segment: sw. lipslide onto the pink down rail when you had to ollie on; 180 over the 80 ft. table first hit, spun immediately so it looked like a zero spin; forward-tilted sw. 180 up a step-up--think sw. cork 180.

Do you remember the timberline step-up in happy days? Tanner does a late 180 up it in Happy Dayz. He tried to get a rodeo 5 and fell 3 times. Then his rodeo turned into a backflip 180 and he gave up. He's got his bag of tricks you see in the comps, but that's about it.

Candide is the best of them in my eyes...his amplitude is on a completely different level then everyone else...his style is unique. Tanner has always been one of the best and still is to this day i think, just like what EastAR5 said: watch show an prove and you'll see that he is still killing it. Pep and dumont are both ill and have thier own style, pep i think is a little more progressive though with the switch in BC and smooth style.

I think if Crichton wasnt always sick he would definatley be the best skier out there right now he has the best natural talent for sure

tanner does not have the amplitude or the grabs that Dumont and Schiller do. there is no denying that tanner is getting old for our sport. his injury also makes skiing on packed snow hardr. no doubt that his segs in 1242 and TBC were WAY ahead of their time (gunei sw. 9, seperate rail seg, seperate bc seg in TB and the bc sw. landings, cork 3, bc sw. 9 in 1242) but i think that tanner is starting to slow down and the rest of the sport is continuing to accelerate..

The only grab that Dumont and Schiller do that Tanner doesn't is the truckdriver, and tanner did that grab off the huge hip in show and prove. Watch show and prove, and you will realize that tanner isn't very old at all. He's throwing huge double backs in the bc, cork 7's off of cliffs, just going huge as fuck.

wurd i forgot i had not seen show and prove, actually i forgot that it was out yet. damn i should go to jibij and watch that shit when josh gets it.
