did 3 weeks in japan living in a van and ski touring every day, it was relatively cheap and we spent most of the money we saved on super super dank food...strongly recommend

choose your destination based on where you have friends with couches

take advantage of multiday ticket deals and/or tour

travel with as many people as you can to split gas

don't fly

don't pay restaurants to make food for you, do it yourself in your friends kitchen

always be a good guest wherever you crash; do all the dishes even if they're not yours, bring them food and beer, etc so you get welcomed back

Depends on what deals you can get, where you live, and where you're trying to go. Driving from Jersey to Breck would have cost much more than flying for me. Gas, food, hotel, and time/effort adds up quick. Could have easily spend $500 driving there and back, not to mention 4k miles on the car. Flight was $300 round trip with bags, got to pick my seat, and free cancellation w/ refund.

Nothing wrong with a 20 pack of hotdogs for 5 bucks... Screw the buns, just get a loaf of bread for 80 cents.

As far as gas goes try and squeeze as many people in the car so you can split the gas 4 5 ways.

I know this is super greasy but if you go midweek, the lifties often won't check your pass. So you can just ride free. I haven't ever been caught. I always set aside money for a lift ticket so if they don't let me pull the greassyness I can buy a ticket anyway.

Hang loose!

•Stay in your vehicle, most mountains are chill with this if you go to the RV lot

•Bring a camp stove and cook your own food. Or pull the ol' bus boy gag and get half eaten burgers for free. (I've done it. Works a charm, just cut off the part people ate from.)

•Shower at a laundromat or campground

•Ride the green pass if possible.
