So I've been blessed having parents that like to listen to music, so we have a pretty cool set up for playing music at our house. But now Im leaving for college, and need a way to play it in my room in a way that actually sounds good. I was at this kids apartment a little while ago and he had some sort of big box that sort of looked like an amp or sub or something that he just plugged his laptop into and it sounded really good with a ton of bass.

Anyways how do you guys play music with out the full on home stereo set up?

get this.

or get any stereo that you want, and plug your computer into it. If you want it sound really good get a better sound card or run windows 7? I don't really know anything about sound cards tho.

what your friend likely had was a portable PA. around $200 to $300 to meet your needs.
Bose systems are nice too.

The best way to play music in your dorm is with as much bass as humanly possible. Play derbstep and odd future and nothing else. Also turn the bass down and play those hendrix riffs. tasty tunes

seriously, the people on the floor below you will totally love you and chicks will always want to hang out and have sex and shit.

I don't mean like that, I just mean for chilling in my room browsing NS or playing n64 and stuff I would like some music playing, and after my first year Im getting a house hopefully.

I just use an old reciever and the giant box speakers that we had from the 90s. Damn those things are old but theyre pretty fucking nice and sound great.

Get a sony shelf system. I have this one and it cost like $200. 9" subwoofer with like 5" mids and its freakin loud. The bass pretty much shakes my house and at only half volume you can hear it from outside a house. I used these for some parties and its pretty damn sick
