Best Vermont ski hill

Tittle says it all, but Fam and I are going to be close to vermont and I was wondering whats the best hill in that area.... and what's the snow condition like?
 
Snow condition at the moment? Stowe is sick and has nice backcountry and Killington is nice but crowded, Never been to Jay Peak but its supposed to be great. The snow conditions everywhere in Vermont aren't going to be so good because its been raining the past few days. I'm heading up tomorrow so if you aren't there yet I'll let you know how it is.

Jay isn't worth it. Never gets much snow and is frequently crowded with Canadians. Go to Killington instead.
 
Stowe has been riding great. As someone already said, we got some nasty rain/warm temps this week, but on Tuesday it was raining in the valleys but snowed up there. Lots of coverage, most of the mountain is open and riding better than expected this early in the season. As far as parks go, 1 small rail garden (5th Ave) as well as the small/medium (North Slope) park and the mini park (Midway) are all open. Only downside is that its going to be one of the busiest places in the whole state over the next week or so.

Can't say what Jay looks like right now, but odds are you can't go wrong there. Amazing terrain if the conditions are right.

Night skiing at Bolton Valley on wed-saturday (open until 10pm on Fridays, otherwise I think it's 9) only a hike park open at the moment, but a fun budget minded mountain if thats what your into.

Kinda boils down to what kinda riding you want to do... A little more info and I could probably make a pretty good recommendation. Snow conditions have been actually very good up until the last couple days, and even still i'm sure most places are in pretty decent shape...
 
Jay Peak, MRG, and Magic are hands down the best east coast mountains but idk if magic is even open and if they are, they probably have very little snow. Jay has no park up yet but has a fantastic base currently. However, its been raining all over VT the past 2 days and Jay today was pretty icy or sticky where it wasn't groomed. Still a fun mountain though. Idk how MRG is doing but I'm assuming its something like Jay (good base but icy and sticky).
 
Sugarbush is Vermonts gem, so underrated. Most families coming up for the break either go to Jay Peak, Stowe, Killington, etc. Even on "busy" weekends @ Bush, there's barely any lines. IMO

well you have the crowded with canadians part right, we're here and loving it you don't like it you can PLEASE lick my hairy nutsack.

Bishop's university is an hour away montreal is about 2 i think. I go to BU and love it at jay, I've skied weekly powder days in a season over the past 5 years. terrain park isn't the best though even though it has soo much potential.

Actually I just got pics from Magic and they fared well after the storm. You can barely even see the ledges on Blackline poking out and that's fantastic because it was skiing great last weekend.

False. Jay gets just as much if not more snow than the resy of the mountains in Vermont. Ther only down side to Jay is that its super windy most of the time

Smuggler's Notch is by far my favorite, if you can stand the slow double lift up Sterling. But that's what keeps the joeys over at Stowe and the Birthday Bowl fresh for the locals.

This question has been in my mind forever and I finally met someone that will know the answer. Do you think the triple black should really be considered a triple? How hard is it? My dad said he thinks its because of the trees there and not really the steepness. Ive never been there and always wondered.

For sure. The state of new jersey wouldn't commute to killy if it was THAT good.

I'm assuming your referring to black hole? Definitely not something i'd consider 'triple black.' I think its more of just a claim to fame/publicity deal...nothing difficult about it other than one spot where a big tree fell down and funnels you into a sketchy little chute with a bumpy run out. Other than that its no harder than any of the other woods at Smuggs. [and on a side not, Smuggs has some of the best top to bottom, technical woods riding in the state - if I want to ride woods, thats where I go!]
