Best University For Skiing Poll

wow, boulder is so much better than U of U. the only thing better at U of U is they are a lot closer to the mountains (30-45 min as opposed to 1hr 15-30min at CU or Echo is 40 min). However, CU doesnt have mormons or mormon law, there is a lot of shit to do besides skiing, a lot more parties with a lot more hot girls who again, arent mormon. a pass to breck/keystone/abasin and 10 days at vail is max $400, whereas you cant get more than 2 mtn passes in one in utah and they are way more expensive, plus the only "good" park is Park City, which sucked this year, especially compared to Breck/Keystone/Vail, all with good parks. CO opens earlier and closes later (oct-june vs nov-april). boulder is no where near as hot as SLC. the only reason i would see going to UofU is if your from Yewtah, then u get instate, because CU out of state is expensive.

i dunno much about UBC, but it seems farther from Whistler than both CU or UU, and there are a lot of asians...?

Don't confuse "high entrance average" and/or "high student grades" or whatever else with "good academically". Believe me when I tell you that SFU is nearly worthless academically. I've been there long enough to know.

SFU is a second rate university in all aspects. Yeah, it's 20 minutes from Seymour or Grouse, 30 minutes from Cypress, and 1.5ish hours away from Whistler, but really, all that means is that you have somewhere to go when SFU shits all over you.

People go to SFU because they didn't get into UBC or just don't know any better.
 
Im interested in transferring to UBC after my sophomore year of college. Which do you guys think would be better, a semester abroad or 2 years at UBC? Who here goes to UBC and has some pertinent info about it from an insiders point of view? Oh and i currently go to santa clara university in cali and im in the honors program and get pretty decent grades.. how hard is UBC to get in to/ transfer in to?
 
Plymouth State is fucking amazing. Less than a half hour away from Waterville and Loon, and really if you want to be pro, this would be the college to go to. You can easily ski five days out of the week. Plus they have the most insane dodge ball ever along with 315, crazedskier1080, dirty, Creighton formally jksl and Colby West. Definitely go there.
 
it is on the back side of Snowbasin and powder mountain, Not Snowbird. But yes it is a great choice. And it is still some what close to all the other utah resorts.
 
i am going to CSM, it is closer than boulder but not much, but allot less girls and maybe harder work
 
Westminster College in Salt Lake City, Utah: A few years ago I posted a thread just like this, did a lot of research...and this is where I ended up.  It's a small, private liberal arts college and SLC is sweet (30 min from 7 resorts).  

You might also want to check out CU Boulder and the University of British Columbia.  Both are further from skiing, but the skiing is good and the schools are good.  On the East Coast:  McGill in Quebec, Middlebury...there's a ton of good schools in Vermont.  
 
if you are choosing a college based on ski availability why the fuck would you waste thousands on college at all? getting a job in a ski town would be more productive than getting a bullshit degree.
 
you can do both school and ski. I didn't even look at colleges that were further than an hour away from skiing, and I'm at the U o' Utah with a great Graphic Design program
 
Suprised noone has thrown in MSU yet... Bridger, Big Sky, and Moonlight all within an hour, and the BC is ridiculous.
 
thanks. i'll be in the Faculty of Science, Chemistry Specifically. I'm transferring from USC, where I was in Chemical Engineering.
 
you're transferring OUT of engineering?.... how do you plan on making the same amount of money as you would as a chemical engineer? like, i'm dead serious here, engineering degrees = hella $$$$.
 
I did winter@westminster last semester. Trust me, its sick!

30 minutes from 7 resorts and a sweet community of riders. If your just going out west for a semester, its deffinatly the way to do it. Second would be the UofU.
 
CSU is a long ass drive...i know, i did it a couple times a week, but they have some good programs, and they gave me scholarship money.
 
yes, everyone listen to him. go to boulder. and stay there. you might even be back in time for a sweet frat party after sitting through 4 hours of traffic coming back from the mountain.

Yes good thread because i have to make my decision soon. I want to be able to ski some epic snow, but still want to have a social life, and have girls around. My choices are mainley between CU boulder or U of U. But i was thinking of going to montana bc ive never been there and i herd big sky is pretty nice. Let me know.
 
yeah but your forgetting CU costs a shit load more than the U and has traffic up the fuckin yang... i def woulda gone to boulder if it wasnt as expensive. Utah is gonna be tight as hell.
 
Yup thats making me lean more toawrds utah also, i cant stand traffic for one, whats the difference in price between the two?
 
except for the fact that utah fuckin suckkks... yeah boulder or denver is far away from the mountains... but lets be serious.. who wants to live in utah? not to mention colorado schools are probably a bit better than uu...
 
Here's an idea and maybe something to think about. Go to school somewhere where you'll learn!

Skiing is great but if you choose a school based purely on location, chances are you'll end up hating your school - which just happens to be the reason why you're in school. Get an education and try to make sure you've got some mountains near you but if not, remember there's always the ability to drive to the mountains.

Get your education. It's the best way to ensure you'll make enough money to live near or on a mountain when you're older. :-)
 
...doesn't SFU have the highest suicide rate in Canada for Universities too?

I wouldn't recommend SFU. I know 4+ people who have either dropped out, transfered or just downright hate it and bitch about it non-stop.
 
yo, those of you talking smack on Colorado are nuts. i went to western state this year in Gunnison, i skied 5 days a week second semester and still took hard classes, and all the credits i took could potentially transfer to boulder. also, every weekend i went to summit county and skied there. i got the best of both worlds skiing steeps 2-3 days a week in CB and park and whatever else in summit on the weekends. i went to school full time this year and skied over 100 days, and passed all my classes, and partied my ass off in Gunnison. how can any of you talk smack on that. it beats the hell out of religiously oppressed Utah. i mean, in Gunnison i can go smoke a joint in front of my house, in SLC you would get arrested for that. cops are chill in gunni to, they have ways for you to get around getting in trouble for possession. seriously. gunni kicks ass. plus we have a core shop now to!

^i don't know what classes you consider "hard", but i don't think you could take a full courseload of hard classes and still ski 5 days a week, unless you didn't sleep at all, and didn't party at all. out of curiosity, what year were you in and what classes did you take?
 
how is university of colorado-boulder for skiing? i assume its pretty close to some sick spots, anybody know?
 
yeah my gpa is like a 3.26 or something and i got like 1150 out 1600 on the SAT's so i think im all set unless i fuck up real bad senior year haha. and i have done baseball every year and indoor track once
