Best type of luggage if you're traveling AND skiing?

luggage I don't mean a bag for skis, I mean a bag for your clothes and

all your other crap you bring with you. If anyone has any idea I guess

I'm between a split bag type or a duffel. I'm studying abroad next semester but planning on skiing around while I'm there but not quite sure how to get everything i need there in the first place and whats easiest for trains. Also what size bag I'm struggling with too.

Here are the types I was checking out. Should I look into a boot bag or just put that in my carry on?

here is what i normally do (longest time is 3 weeks to a month though when i go home for winter break). two pairs of skis+poles in the ski bag (armada anchorage) and normally like my shovel, gloves, baselayers, other light stuff. i have a massive duffel bag (i have no clue what size) that i normally get all my clothes, outerwear, etc. and then all my camera stuff/computer/etc go in my backpack with my boots strapped to the outside. its never been an issue for me.

if you are gonna be gone for a long time you would be good with the 100 L dakine bag, a ski bag and a backpack/carry-on. go with the 100L though. even if you dont fill it all the way, its better to have some extra room than not have enough room
 
yea ive had my dakine duffle and ski bag for like 8 years now. theyve seen a fair amont of travel and theres still nothing wrong with them.
 
I use a similar Dakine rolling duffel to the one you listed and works pretty well. I prefer the duffel shape over the flatness of the split, but it doesn't pack quite as clean
 
awesome thanks guys, you think the 100L is best to get there and back? hard to tell without actually having one with me what would be best for packing a helmet and that type of stuff into. I'm going to Italy from January-June but I'll have a home base and can probably use just a carry on size back for ski trips after that. I can't decide if i should be organized with a split bag or toss it all in a duffel. Also do i've heard you can actually separate a split bag and use just one size...? don't know if that's true or not.
 
I use my 140L North Face duffel for travelling, can be worn as a huge ass back pack in the airport so saves hands... I like the fact it doesnt weigh anything due to not having wheels etc.

So I travel with my 140L Duffel, a salomon terminal bag and a Head 4 pair ski bag. (though i only take 2 pairs normally)
 
Yeah the north face duffle bags are great when weight is a concern. The xl size is actually a bit bigger then 140 at 152 litres. It's a huge bag and you get get a ton in it. There is a fairly big jump down to the large size as it's only 90 litres. The saline spilt rollers are good but weigh about 3.5 jog empty which is about a 5th of your weight allowance compared to 1.9 kg for an xl north face duffle.
 
Sorry, you knew what I meant I rate the XL as the best travel bag even if you don't fill it, it beats the L. But ya for travelling when weight is concerned, if you dont mind muscling around... avoid wheely bags.
 
I've met a lot of people overseas the past few years and almost all of them used this bag

they put everything in it. 2 sets of skis, boots, all their winter clothes and little more.
