Best thing to happen to action sports ever

i saw OP and thought something was missing. Scrolled down to find link instead of embedded. But with the help of another member found embedded. Watched video now commenting.

pretty much all NSG is

Word. Crash on a 30 ft kicker skiing and you can get up and shake it off in about 2 seconds. Crash on a 30 foot kicker biking and you'll be hurtin for the rest of the week.

agreed on the gnarlier than skiing comment.
the thing i dont understand is, in skiing i can see progression. starting at small kickers, landing simple spins/flips and progressing to crazy dubs and other maneuvers. but in fmb... where the fuck do you start..

it's the samet hing. you gotta find smaller stuff to start off on. resort riding helps, dirt jumping helps, just gotta be dedicated and creative.

yeah thats nuts
and i saw one where the guy does a kick flip with the bike...
now put those 2 together...

Shit. I went dormant for the last few years and biking has taken off since then. Can't wait to get back in the saddle this summer.

You have to start small and learn the basics, but there comes a point where everything you do is high risk if you want to progress. Unlike skiing, all bike crashes hurt, and you have a lot less room for error. You can drop a 30 foot cliff on skis and land on your head into pow and be fine, but if you fall 30 feet to rocks on a bike on your head, you're fucked.

Yup. I realized while feeling hella rusty back on my bike for the first time of the season this weekend on a gnarly downhill trail that there's a certain mentality you have to develop that allows you to progress faster.

The mentality works the same way for skiing or any extreme sport. Basically, you cross this mental line where upon knowing for a fact that you're about to fall, you go from your first thought being, "holy shit i'm going to kill myself" to "shit, how do i manipulate my body to make this hurt the least or even ride out?". I realized this after coming around a sharp corner a little too fast and clipping my handlebars on a boulder, which sent my bike completely sideways. I somehow managed to get my feet out from uner the bike and landed on my feet in a rock garden running full force. Would've been real bad news if i had landed any other way or hadn't developed the mentality/reactions to know how to land in the least devestating way possible.

Hope that made sense.

Yea exactly. Eventually you get to the point where you don't care about falling so much, because you know it's inevitable. At that point it's balls to the wall haha.

as someone bearing scars from falling on a 3 foot jump, i can't even comprehend that. that guy's 3 off the cliff was bigger than most people do on skis. ridiculous.

Yeah but fuck Josh Bender, he's like the Jamie Pierre of mtn biking. Neither land anything they huck themselves off of and both have zero style.

Not really on anybodys radar. Cam is an incredibly rad dude, but definitely hasn't been dominating the last few years. He had an incredible season last year, but previous to that he hadn't made it through an entire comp season with a win or without blowing his knee. He did win Crankworx in 2006, but wasn't really a factor again till last season. He even stated in several interviews last year that he was getting motivation from kids claiming he was washed up. His 2010 rampage run was however the most gnar thing to happen ever. That step down was a 40ft drop and 50ft gap. As for dominating, Brandon Semenuk was undoubtedly the top rider in the sport and on the FMB tour till he got hurt at Crankwork Whistler last year.

I think i should've used "killing" it rather than "dominating". Before he blew up, he used to ride a lot around where I grew up.

Only seen him ride in person a couple times. My friends who used to compete and who were much better at DJing and used to ride the Post Office Jumps would always tell me about riding with him.

I'm one of those shit heads blowing the vuvuzelas at crankworx haha. Fun to watch for sure. Next year should be crazy. Semenuk is on another level but theres tons of dudes that could win as well. Apparently this year the course at crankworx is being designed by a group of the riders so it will definitely be next level shit.

Doesn't matter. He pushed the sport sooooooo much. Nobody hucks shit as big as him, and the fact that he's willing to huck it even when he knows he's gonna crash hard. AND he's actually an incredible rider when he's not just hucking. Skip to 420 in this vid and you can see him do some trials. http://www.pinkbike.com/video/27637/

is rampage gonna be an every 2 years thing, or is it coming back again this year?

also, money on semenuk.

they should really add thsi to the summer dew tour. enough with these hipster tight pant long hair wearin douches
