Best Style of Rail

Was thinking about this after a recent post about love/hate for corrugated tubes. What are y'alls favorite/least favorite types of rails? Not talking about shape like rainbow or dfd, but the construction style. I'm personally a big fan of the double barrel ones and medium diameter tubes. Usually try to learn new rail tricks on fat tubes. Wide flat bars suck, just be a box or be fucking skinny.

Big ass tubes, flat, down, up love em, good to learn stuff and mess around with surface swaps and 50/50s

those dfd tubes that some resorts have look so fun

Yeah fat tubes are always the best you can learn tricks fairly easily on them, and cannons are a close second

Park City's down-flat double barrell might be the most pleasing rail to clean.

I don’t like double barrels their always sticky. Best rails by far are far tubes or a nice flat bar

Just depends my mtn doesn’t maintain shit once the parks built it’s just left there until it falls over and they come get the rails in the summer or move them once the mtns closed

I like a tube with a little bit of texture / grit to it. I find it way harder to do tricks on brand new steel. It is almost too smooth.

big phat tubes are fun and accessible. Nobody wants to hit a 1-inch round rail. Also OP is right about super wide flat bars they suck. Just be a box or be narrower >:(

Long skinny down rails, where the lip is significantly shorter than the rail. The steeper the better. So fun to boost 2s on, especially lip 2s.

i personally very much dislike corrugated tubes because they caused my skis to lose lots of edge very quickly. Anyways i’m a fat tube fanboy cause they’re easy to do tricks on.

Fat tubes are great for learning and fun to do stuff on, but they’ve honestly lost their luster for me in terms of filming tricks. A backswap pretz 2 or a 3swap or something will never look better on a tube than it does on a skinnier rail. It’s more rewarding if you can do techy stuff on skinner metal too. That being said, 5050 tricks on tubes fucking rock and look cool as fuck

old metal rocks too. Especially if it’s grinded down often. When it’s gritty it’s great for gripping for swaps and stuff. However there are a few newer rails at the local that are almost too smooth for gripping. That being said I’m not sure if it’s some super high quality metal or something, but that thing has never ever ever been sticky.

Fuck flatbars 2021. Skinny boxes are fun asf.

lift towers and wider single barrels like 4" in diameter and up are my favorite. Especially when they're solidly built and so greasy you'll bust your ass if your weight is even slightly back.

I actually like skinny rails I think they are easier for me to lock onto

I don’t have any tubes at my local and I went on a lil ski trip a couple weeks ago and hit my first tube. Shit was crazy, by far the best feature

fair but for someone like me who is not very good at rails those skinny round rails are d e a t h e... so scary looking. So easy to eat shit on.

I’ve never hit a tube bigger than 6 inches, but I must say I like skinny down rails. Also my mountain has this quad kink that’s super fun so maybe quad kinks are my favorite idk. Any rail is fun IMO.

Number 1 I'd a well built/set up feature. I'd rather ride something crisp that's proper than my favorite rail janky.

Favorite is a ztube. We had a z dfd donkey tube at nirthstar that was my favorite rail there.

Also challenge features. Especislly ones that end in donkey. Flat z tube to down donkey at snownass was fire. Donjey makes you slide it proper because you can't scam it if you come off early. Need that center pop.

Will say clean down rails are always great. People complsin that they arent cool ir interesting enough but those are the most hit fwatures everywhere. Simple flat and down rails.

Skinny round rail = rail

Ignoring actual types of rails, rails/ boxes with boards on the sides are the best. Fuck those T shaped boxes, it isn't a square, it's not a box it's an abomination. Fuck goal post rails, put some fucking boards on that shit, I'm not trying to get a concussion falling backwards or fuck up my knee getting a ski caught at the end. I get that it is easier to set up and cheaper to maintain but fuck, kids are getting wrecked on that shit.

Then you can't carve under your friends though. Personally I don't really like t boxes. I don't like the way they look and they fall over without feet. Tubes have kind of gotten a pas in the industry and I like it. Has made some cool things. You can put a flat rail across a gap etc without having other shit hanging down. Idk it's a clean look. Pretty much if it has a bunch of legs in the middle it's a no go, none or one that's generally ok. Most of those are open and just kink down at the ends.

Here's a donkey tube I built for another mountain. Built a few similar style tube rails there. There were cool. Also have built plenty of stuff with skirting. I like a mix honestly.

Tubes in general are fun. I like skinny tubes, medium tubes, and lift towers. Less into towers but they're still dope. Not a huge fan of shotguns.

yeah my moutain has this flat bar that is like a foot wide... its literally two like put together somehow. They don't care about park so the features are all sitting at the top of were the park was last year and i bet there gonna get messed up.

I grew up with pretty much only corrugated tubes and it was a great stepping stone to larger features. Definitely like two bars and large tubes as well.

Long tubes, not more than like a foot wide. I always run out of rail trying tricks with more swaps.

Fat tubes and are the best for messing around on but I don't think that anything can beat greasing a long skinny rail, that shit is soooo satisfying. shoutout to cannons tho, floating a 4 off feels so smooth.

My taste did a complete 180 I used to hate anything that wasn't a traditional steel down bar or flat bar or anything like that and now all I wanna do is slide wood, corrugated tube, concrete, and anything that isn't made of metal lol. Fuck it, I'll grind snow too, halfpipe coping is more fun than any standard dfd....

That being said i still love elbow and S rails idk why

A nice up tube over a knuckle makes bigger spins out easy plus you can tap/drag/butter the knuckle and it’s hella fun. I also love a good flat tube or rail that’s low to the ground but has a bigger drop off
