Best Skiing in Scandinavia

I currently have been accepted to a program that allows me to study pretty much anywhere in scandinavia. I am wondering where would be the best place to live considering i know very little about the region. Im thinking in terms of skiing and in terms of population, for example there is a place to study very close to Are. Any information would be helpful. Thanks
 
Trondheim, Norway maybe? Trondheim is the 3rd biggest city in Norway(now dont forget its norway, so the population is at 166 000 or so), its a 2 hour drive to Åre Sweden, either with car, bus or train. 2 hour drive/bus/train to Oppdal, which has some really awesome offpist, good snow and awesome park(norwegian standard, again) at spring time after the freestyle happening Mega Park. Closest ski resort is Vassfjellet, decent mountain with some good powder now and then, 20 min with car/bus. Trondheim has some of the best Unis in the country, check outhttp://www.ntnu.no/english/

 
Or perhaps Ostersund. Great University, 90km to Are and some ok, slopes and park right in the city!

Just an hour with car or cheap train to Are.
 
Hi there=)

I live in Lillehammer, Norway. and I've got to tell you about it because its a great place if you want to combine studies with skiing, mountainbiking etc etc.

Lillehammer is a 2,5hr drive to Oslo(capital city).

The major ski resorts in Lillehammers region is: Hafjell(20min),

Kvitfjell(50 min), Sjusjoen(20-30min), Skeikampen (50 min), and GAla(1,5hr)

The great thing about these 5 resorts is that they share the same season pass.

So if you don't want to ski Hafjell one day you can just take the bus to Skeikampen. Which brings me to the next item on my ad:P

During the winter they offer something called "vinterbussen"(Winter bus) which have departures to all resorts from Lillehammer. And the busses are really cheap IF you buy a busspass which last for 31 days and they cost like 200-3000NOK = ca 60 bucks.

Hafjell is the closest and the biggest resort which also has been named the best bike park in Norway 3 years in a row. Hafjell Bike Park was featured ion MBUK some time ago and they compared it to whistler.

Your also close to alot of great resorts as: Hemsedal, Trysil, Oppdal, Geilo you name it. most of the resorts are 2-3 hours of driving from Lillehammer.

And the nightlife is great aswell, bars, clubs, private parties etc etc. and as i said People are really chill here in Lillehammer its not hard to make friends here=)

and as for your studies you have HIL(Høyskolen i Lillehammer), where you can choose to study almost anything. just check their website:http://www.hil.no/hil/lillehammer_university_college

that seems like a pretty solid place to live, i have to check if the program i'm going with has a school there. Thanks for the info too, very helpful.
 
i know stockholm is kinda far from skiing, but its my favorite city ive been to out of 20+ countries. such wonderful people, dope ass city, and the swedes know about women and partying. even if you dont study there, it's definitely worth the trip
 
Go to Lillehammer!
I ski at Hafjell, and the mountain is great! The park is always well shaped, and gets bigger and better every year. It has Norway's best downhill terrain, and the second best dirt bike park in Scandinavia. 10 minutes by bus from Lillehammer.
