Best Ski

Hi im looking to get new skis for next years season and i wanna get an idea early so that i can get the perfect ski for me. i ski volkl karmas right now which are great but they don't perform in the park like i'd like (especially with my huge ass heavy bindings). - Your height

-I wiegh 140 rougly and am around 5'6" to 5'7"

- I ski about half park half other stuff, but next year i will be skiing mostly park with some off terrain. for example hitting jumps up in areas nobody goes

- im decently new to park, skiing it two years at a bad park, and i want a ski that will have good flex, but stomp landings up backcountry, and skis park good (basically a ski that skis park good, but still does decent other places

Right now im looking at dumont, foils, ar6, thalls. but i am open to any ideas. i have looked at threads and thought a bit but i kinda want an opinion in more my case. thanks

The skis you listed seem decent, I'm not a fan of the foils though. The T-Halls I've heard can be a bit squirly at high speeds. None of those are really that wide for stomping landings in pow.

Going for supreme in park and bc is pretty hard with one ski. Your choices would most likely be, someone correct me if I'm wrong..

Scratch BC which people seem to like in the park, but will preform in BC, ARV, and Seths. I don't know anything about Seths so someone can tell you about them. ARV are really soft so might be a bit of an issue in the park

Scratch BC WRS would be good. I know a few people who have Seths and rock them in park and pow and love them. I know nothing about ARV's but if they are soft that shouldn't be a problem in the park.

First off, I'm almost exactly your dimensions. I ski the AR6 in and out of the park (mostly in). It's a great park ski, and out of the park it holds its own. For about 70/30 park/all-mtn it's a great choice. I would say the same thing about the T-halls, however if you are considering that ski, I would get next year's model, as it does MUCH better out of the park (search for my reviews of next years skis).

However, if you are doing closer to 50/50, I think the Armada ARV might be a better ski for you. Especially if you're hitting some kickers and other BC stuff, the extra width underfoot will make that ski much more stable. This year's ski is really good, but maybe a bit soft for some. Personally, I skied it and never noticed the flex being a problem. What it's good for is that the ski loads so much power through a turn, then when you point out of a turn, the ski just rips out of it. Next year's ski is a bit stiffer, so it should be even better.

Lastly, the Jp vs. Julien is Armada's BC Jib ski, but I think if you're skiing a lot of everyday park, you might not like the wide dimensions. Personally, I'm planning on buying the 178 version of that ski for my pow/bc jib ski for next season.

yeah i think im gonna be more about 70/30 park/bc so ar6 sounds great. and i think im getting this years models to save money. are ar6s that heavy, cuz my karmas a bit heavy for park compared to say...foils.

but im not really looking for a total pow ski like you guys were saying cuz i don't think it would do great in the park, about midway dimensions like ar6, foil sounds good. i don't know what bc's are like so i'll check them out though sounds like they are pretty good too.

one last thing, im still really looking at the dumonts, they look like they would rip the park up. but can they handly anything bc? cuz they have a wooden core unlike the foils. thanks for your feedback everyone

the line anthem is the invader with a 93 mm waist

and the '07 line chronic blend has a 90 mm waist

i've heard the foil kills it in the park and all-mountain

and it has a decent shovel, to plow through deeper stuff

if you want it all

then i say go with the foil, it seems more versitile

i have a friend who rides foils all-mnt and powder, and he says thier sick

Your best options to not lose performance out of the park are proly the BC WRS, Seth, and ARV. AR6, Dumont, and those will not be the best for hitting a BC booter or skiing pow. The ARV is stiffer for next year, a lot of people say it kills in the park, and I know of people in the midwest who have them so they cant be horrible, seeing as thats all we have. A lot of people also like the BC in the park. Dont really know shit about the seth.

also, Big Troubles and Fischer Kehua/Atua (depending on the size you want) are similar skis that kill everything and rip all mountain. big troubles are a bit stiffer and better at ripping through crud, while the fischers are a little more lively and more fun in the park as they are more reponsive and poppy, the atuas are also slightly better in pow cause they're a little wider, each would be an excelent choice for a one ski quiver.

Sorry, I saw it now. But you says that the THALL is like a stiffer AR6. Isn't it more like a softer AR6? I thought THALL was Armada's softest ski!

actually im looking more park ski then bc. just something that could deal the bc jumps would be nice. im thinking foils, dumonts or ar6. im also thinking about line invaders. do you know if the ar6's are heavy? and how do those skis compare? for park? for doing a little extra stuff?

I've had several problems with my T-Halls. On my third pair now... the "deck" is delaminating. Maybe i'm just too fat, but they don't seem to hold up on me!!

Am I the only one having issues on the T-Halls?

I know everybody hates atomic but they are really light, flexed well and were sick in the park and everywhere else

foils are sick they are super light, and really fun in the park and on groomers, and hey, Dumont and Sammy used them in japan so they float pretty well too

so if you ride the park alot and live in wisconsin....and do rails and jumps mostly but like to go fast every now adn then...what do you think is better ar6 or thall? (price no factor)

I think you need to get a perspective on dimensions. IMO, 85 underfoot is a pretty skinny ski to me. Not as skinny as a slalom race ski, but still skinny that it will be light and easy to go quickly edge.

I don't know how many skis you've been on that are more than 90 underfoot, but I think you'd find that they are pretty easy to maneuver. Something like the ARV is probably pretty close to what you're looking for. I'd say go demo it next season, and if you don't like it, decide where you dont like it (in the park or BC stuff), and then lean more towards a ski that will do better in that area.

thanks; both arv and ar6 sound great. im not super sure yet so far, but im leaning towards ar6. i don't think im gonna demo any ski unfortunetely. and im definetely going for a more park ski. i used to race, then i switch to 05/06 karmas. i like that width.
