Best ski town to Spend a Winter?

whistler and blackcomb are most definately 2 different mountains, you fucking punk. they are however, part of the same RESORT.

in case you couldn't tell that they were two mountains just by looking at them, this link should educate you about what a mountain is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain

sandpoint. small, chill town with tons of snow. right at the base of schweitzer, which gets 300 inches a year. also my home mountain :)

Well on the Breck Local pass you get Key, Breck, A-Bay and Vail, which is very big and has some fun stuff to ski as far as powder. So all those options and different mtns are not really a 1/4 of Whistler. (I have never been to Whistler but In terms of size all these mountains together are bigger)

You can also hit up other mountains with different passes, like Copper which is in summit or farther off, Steamboat which is empty and fun!

thats the other thing, i find the terrain varies greatly between the two mountains. Blackcomb reminds me a lot of the skiing in the alps, a lot of techy couloirs and things like that, i find it to be a bit more alpine oriented than whistler. Whistler on the other hand has a ton of really long top to bottom runs, and bigger areas for tree skiing. On a bluebird powday ill probably be on blackcomb, storm days ill probably be on whist. Overall its kind of hard to describe if you havent skied them both, but theres definitely a difference between the two

Whistler/Blackcomb = 8171 Acres

Breck= 2300 Acres

But if you count Keystone, Copper, A basin Vail, Beaver Creek, Loveland (I consider these Summit county even though vail and BC are in eagle)

You get another 14,982 Acres.

I'm bored at work so here ya go.

Skiable acres.

Whistler/Blackcomb 8,171 Acres

Summit County area 17,282 Acres (breck, key, vail, bc, Copper, loveland, A basin)

Mammoth- 3,500 Acres

Utah- 22,176 Acres (Wolf mtn, powder mnt, birghton, canyons, PC(be cautious this place has aids), deer valley, alta, snowbird, solitude, snowbasin)+Sundance I couldn't find the acres

Tahoe- 23,400 Acres (Alpine, boreal, diamond peak, Heavenly, homewood, kirkwood, mt rose, n*, sierra at tahoe, squaw VALLEY USA MOTHER FUCKER, sugar bowl) I didn't include Tahoe donner or donner ski ranch because you won't ever ski there.

Well that took a lot longer than expected but there ya go.

Yes, I agree but I think you and the other kid are missing the point of this entire thread...

If you do all of CO or all of BC it will be a lot more hahaha. I would like to know acreage on VT or ME in comparison. I'll bet it's tiny.

you're right lol. nobody has answered op's question in about 30 posts.

The beauty of whistler is that you park your car and you have 8000 acres to ski. never been to Colorado but can you ski from the base of say Breck to the base of keystone/a-basin? If you factor in driving theres a ton of resorts in BC.

Well, actually, if you read the OP you'll notice that he's trying to conduct a survey for his research project. So in that case, the OP is just looking for people's opinion about cool ski towns to live and ski. So let's get back to the purpose of this thread. Sweet picture though.

Either whistler or mammoth. My reasoning: Whistler is a fucking awesome place, great atmosphere and a lot of good vibes going around the town. There is a lot to do even a club lol. A lot of amazing terrain, good snowfall and a super sick park (there is two). Even if you're just cruising around whistler there is a lot of stuff to do and it's super fun. Only 2 hours away from Vancouver is also a huge plus because there is a ton to do there and it's a nice big city. There is heli and cat skiing close by too! The major downfall of whistler is that it is so fucking expensive to live there. Also the legal drinking age is 19 in Canada so that too. Mammoth also has amazing terrain and a super nice park but not as big of a mountain as whistler. I don't know much about mammoths town but I do know that it is a hell of a lot cheaper than whistler. A bad thing about mammoth is that there is nothing close by for about 5 hours, no big citys or anything. I'm gonna go ahead and say i'd pick whistler.

Summit has the best benefits.. You got a list of top resorts, reasonable cost of living, chicks, plus you can bounce down to Denver in an hour for some city life and shows galore... and more chicks

Out of those I would choose Salt Lake. Snow being the main reason, and also access to BC terrain and multiple resorts.

I would also consider Bozeman and Revelstoke, but neither of those are on your list.

well by that theory...Chamonix, or La Grave/Les Duex Alpes. Thats the only other place i see my self living besides whistler at this point.
