Best ski area to live?

I am currently a junior in high school and am looking at either transfering out west (prolly to u of u) after 2 years or just getting my masters out there and getting my undergrad here. I would move out right away but I live in PA and Penn State has one of the best mechanical engineering programs in the country (ranked 16 in the country including ivy league). Anyways I was wondering when I move out west what is the best ski area out there? I have been leaning hard towards SLC area but what are the advantages and disadvatages to tahoe, northern cali, oregon, washington, whyoming, montana, colorado, and all the rest. I am talking about overall town and living as well as the skiing. I realize this is personal preference but I was just wondering the pros and cons of all of them in terms of living, job market, eventual place to raise a family, like the whole package. We talk about the ski areas a lot but what is talked about less are these places as a living experience.

Silverthorne, ColoradoYou have Keystone Breck and a-basin less than 10 min away. Vail Copper and Beaver creek are 30-45 minutes away. The girls partying and atmosphere is great. Although the trade off is a good amount of tourists....

10 min?? damn thats crazy. is there like a legit job market out there or is it pretty much just a skiing tourist town?

U of u is great considering alta, snowbird, park city, and the canyons. But I must agree with my friend above, silverthorne is the prime place to be skiing and partying wise. Just don't let all the pros slow down your laps.

the times are a little off, breck and keystone around 15-20 min, abasin around 25, vail about 30 and beaver creek about 40-45. frisco is also awesome because your closer to vail, beaver creek, and breck, there are less tourists and its a little more mellow. vail resorts is always hiring, so jobs are pretty easy to find most of the time. skijob1.com has all the listings

Yea but seeing as when I go over there I will most likely have a degree in mechanical engineering I was thinking more of a job market for engineering instead of resort jobs. I wanna get a job in that then after I get a job go to a near by college (which ever area I settle) and get a masters. I mean Mechanical engineering is one of the most in demand degrees so I shouldn't have toop much trouble but I'm guessing in that field it would be easier to finsd a good job in boulder or denver in CO or SLC in utah or any city area for that matter.

dont come to summit its so damn flat.

but for real SLC is a good bet, you arent far from the mountains and you have a major city with a good job market.

lets face it the job market for a summit county ski town sucks.

I don't live in Tahoe but I ride there. I live in Folsom, right outside Sacramento and Sac has a decent job market but its not the biggest. Sierra at Tahoe is the closest resort to me at about an hour and then it goes up to like an hour and a half for Nothstar and two for Alpine/Squaw. Tahoe is a great city to ski bum or live in when young but it mayyy be hard to find a solid career there.

as much as i love denver, it is not the best place to live if you want to ski all of the time.

it usually takes me about an hour and a half to get to keystone, and that was before every gaper and the mother started going to the mountains on saturday and they turn 70 into an even bigger cluster fuck.

coming back it can take anywhere from the same amount of time to 4 hours. people do not know ow to drive in snow, and trucks slow it down way to much.

plus the new speed pace cars are a total joke and i can rant for hours on that shit.

but all in all denver is a pretty nice place to live, you are close to a lot of outdoors things, it is sunny a lot.

this.

As far as i can think of, there realy isn't many "good" jobs directly in or around ski towns for the most part. I mean denver is like going from ny to vermont 3 hours or so not to bad. Around major cities your going to have way more opportunities. And honestly, the way to skiing a lot in your life is to get a good succesful job.
