You could look at Maine College of Art (MeCA) in portland Maine. I took a tour there and I was super impressed. Being from Canada though I can get just as good training for a 5th or 6th of the price. Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (NSCAD) in Halifax, Nova Scotia is an excellent arts school, one of the top ones in North America, and located in a really cool city, although there's more crime there than pretty much anywhere else in Atlantic Canada. It's a neat palce to be though, b/c there is 9 or 10 of some of the best Canadian universities/colleges dispersed throughout teh city, so like 1/3 of teh city is college students. Tuition there is expensive though. Mount Allison University in Sackville, NB has a very good fine arts department as well. Where I am going, Sir Wilfred Grenfell College in Newfoundland has a good vis. arts program with exchange possibilities in Europe. Some of the photos coming out of the lab here are breathtaking. I'm not in visual arts yet because I didn't apply soon enough so I can't give you feedback on the instructors. There is a tuition freeze here though, so my tuition for a year is $2500 for 10 classes. Its more for international students, but if you can get dual citizenship (you have to apply through teh embassy) you can get redic. low tuition comapred to anywhere in the states.
