Best route down Khyber

So I've been down khyber a 6 or so times but keep on taking wrong turns, ending up at function junction kinda sucks especially the ski out. so what are the tips on where to go after the smoke shack

haha you've been going too left...its only at the very top there that you get even close to skiing into function. Almost all of the other ways out have a road that go to crackside.

we you drop that low, you are what the old timers call the Cake Hole. When you have to pole out like. 7k to get all the way to function and hitchhike back?

if you keep more right, you kinda get to a flattish area, which is where the boot pack out is, and that takes you to highway 86 or you can keep going and you end up in creekside.

all right so just stay right at the start, I always see people start a little higher up on that road before khyber, is that cake hole cause if it was where I went it sucks for a good portion of it when there's no tracks and no bootpack.

thanks man, those maps help alot, I dont plan on going down cake hole or any of those again, I'll for sure find someone to show me the way before i do anymore exploring

Randomly exploring is how people get themselves fucked up. I was talking to the Marketing lady from Revelstoke back at the start of Feb, and she was saying that Revy Patrol had over 50 cases of people 'exploring' and then spending an unintentional night out in the backcountry. I know that Khybers is more kinda slackcountry and aint that sketchy, but you still shouldnt head out there if you dont know where youre going.

technically this:

is too far skiers right. Sick looking zone though.

once again DONT go out of bounds if you dont have equipment, buddy, and an experienced dude or duddet in your group. Ive pulled 4 guys out of the bush this season so far that were just wandering in circles right outside the boundary on both whis and blackcomb. I can't even think how many more have been helped by groups actually out of bounds, last season we ran into two guys at the base of fissle that had no clue where they were, people's stupidity never ceases to amaze.

Have fun, but be careful. There are some fun lines in those cliff bands, but it gets sketch fast.

I aggree. defs make sure you have a ski buddy who your with. you can get fucked out pretty good if you go to the wrong spot or get lost. make sure you go with someone who knows where your going.

it says too far left, which is true in one sense because ending up on the south side of the ridge, where that picture is taken, would infact be too far left. But ending up on the south side of the ridge doesn't mean you are going to encounter zones like that one. In fact, some people drop off cars in function so that they can ski the south side of the ridge on their last lap. What I meant by 'technically too far right' is that the danger zone for the south side of the ridge (and where I'm assuming that picture was taken) is far skiers right on the south side of the ridge. Khybers lies on the West and North side, which means you have to start going right at the top of the Khybers zone to stay within the limits that feed back to creekside. But if you start too far left, and end up on the South Side of the ridge (going down to the cheakamus), then if you go too far right you'll end up in the danger zone. I think the very edge (skiers left edge) of the danger zone might have some gnarly but ride-able lines (like the pciture I posted), but the thick of the danger zone is certain death.

yah thats the zone. Too far left in terms of going south on the ridege. Too far right if you cross the ridge and start skiing down towards the chekamus.
