Best resorts in tahoe

me amd a friend were terribly bored in class today so we argued and ended up making a list of the best resorts in tahoe... this is based on the off groomed terrian because we both stay out of the park as much as possible

1) kirkwood - big steep lotsa snow

2) alpine - steep best/most hikable terrian in tahoe

3) sugar bowl - tons of shit (they even have a cave)

4) sierra - best tree skiing and boulderfields

4) squaw - same terrian as alpine but less hikable, too crowded, very windy

5) heavenly - flat but it makes up in size

6) boreal - cheep and not that bad

7) northstar - i absolutly hate this place... no doubleblacks? whats the deal

i havnt skied at diamond peak, homewood, or mt rose in a long time so i dunno

who agrees with me haha

Maybe Mt. Rose and Homewood would take the places of Boreal and N* if you are talking about the terrain. Rose - Chutes, Hwood - Treeskiing pow fest

I disagree, NStar is not #1, always crowded, front side is hella flat, and it takes 10 hrs to get from your car to skiable terrain. Rose's chuttes on a pow day are tough to beat. Alpines cliffs are tight too.

for those of us that are demanding of expert terrain it blows because it has nothing to offer, none of my frieeds are full time park skiers so yeah im sure they have great jibs and ok jumps but its not alpine, squaw sugarbowl or kirwood.

OK, what makes northstars park so great? How does it stack up next to Breckenridge's, or Heavenly's or Boreal's, or Mammoth's? Is it because their pass is so cheap?

northstar has some really unique jibs (ie. a staircase, dcshoe box, etc) that can be a lot of fun. the park is really fun, the jumps are decent, but don't get good til late spring. However, it is overcrowded, usually undermaintained and there are better places in tahoe for more variety. just go check it out for yourself, we can say a lot on here but you have to see for yourself.

because people are trend whore followers. People who aren't very good buy thier passes there becuase it is an easy mountain, then all thier friends buy passes so they can ride with them....This equals on large cluster fuck of shit-ass riders called northstar.

i was trying to say that all northstar has is park that thats the only reason you go there is for their park cause the rest of the mtn is lame as shit.....when i go home i go to kirkwood sugar bowl and alpine

I only go to nstar becasue its closer to where I live and I have the double wham, so I it nstar up on my way into tahoe then sierra for the remainder. Sierra rocks, nstar shouldnt be on the list, especially if the lift is not talking about park.

i get to northstar once or twice a week mainly because my girl works there and i have a couple of bros who ride there and its halfway ok to jib at during the week, but still boreal and alpine are way more fun parkwise.

I for one bought the northstar pass because it was cheap as shit, otherwise I wouldnt have it.

My take on the situation is this though, I think northstar is crowded because 1. its cheap and 2. tourists like the village so they can tube and iceskate and shop and eat and be retarded in ways other than stuffing their jeans inside of their ski boots.

i love to take kids who are used to skiing or boarding at N* and bring them to alpine... take them to estelle or the nose and show them that there is something better than an overcrowded park

Dont care what anyone says.

Homewood takes the cake for gnarliest place ever.

Powder lasts there for weeks cuz there are no crowds.

No liftlines period.

They got some steeps.

And its a total gnarly treeskiing powderfest as long as they have decent snow.

They dont have much of a park, and last time I checked they didnt have a Zaugg in order to cut a pipe, but they dont need it. Their stuff is way to gnarly fucking tight to matter.

Not to mention, tickets are ridiculusly cheep.

ive always wanted to go there for the reasons you listed. i think im gonna go next weekend. pow should still be there from this weeeks storm

I fidn sugar bowl to be very boring. Yes, the cave is awesome and so is the pasisades, but the rest of the mountain just isn't very chalenging.

The only reason I have a pass to Northstar/Sierra is because the pass was cheap, and everyone at my school who rides has passes there. It makes sense for me. Northstar's park IS one of the best in tahoe, and the trees/backcountry at sierra isn't bad. I also go to kirkwood when I want some real mountain skiing.

Next winter I'll most likely try and get a pass to alpine, since everyone is talking it up so much.

most of the kids at my school are little rich bitch snowboarders with cabins in northstar that only ride park and dont get up early enough to beat the crowd... so i took a couple of them to alpine and showed them around... they were crazy in the park but couldnt do shit outside of it...

What the hell do you want? The whole mountain to be the palisades? You portray yourself like your Dan Treadway or something and able to ski 91 degree slopes.

There are cliffs everywhere.. on a 2 foot powderday its a total cliff jumping huckfest.

The park isnt AMAZING, but at least it works.

I will admit that the pipe is in a poor spot though... They could surely do better with that.

You got a problem with me being able to ski 91 degree slopes when you can't?

Seriously though... Yes, there are awesome cliff's there, but I wasn't talking about the huck status of the mountain and I don't even ski park that much, so i could care less if the park is good or not. I WILL agree with you that on a powder day Sugar Bowl is awesome. But when there isn't powder, I find other mountains to be much more satisfying to my palate. Maybe i'm not getting my point across right... o h well.

And by the way, I may be corrected, but I believe that Mark Hochendoner did not say "i love skiing backwards" in war. Wasn't it one of the Olenick(sp?) bros?

Yes, Pete Olenick says "I love to ski backwards, in case you didn't notice." Wow I sound like a fuckin dork knowing these things. Also, Sugar Bowl has some sick shit. We managed to poach some pow turns on the palisades in the afternoon on a Saturday. Lift lines pretty much sucked almost as much as N* while we were there.
