Best resorts for freeride

And I dont mean one line oe one drop.

I mean which ski areas have the best (open to tye public) sustained freeride terrain with open faces.

For me its crystal

Whistler probably deserves a mention.

Nothing in the front range of CO. If arapahoe basin got the snow something on the coast did it would be rowdy.

Flat sky is flat enough to where a lot of lines can be sustained forever, especially on the west side on the mountain.

Silverton Mountain Ski Area. One lift and it ain't cheap but come on a good day and you'll leave with a lifetime of memories. Telluride and Taos also pop into my head. Wolfcreek always has the snow just needs a little more vert.

So glad nobody has unironically said Alta. Cool resort but it’s a total stuck up boomer circle jerk most of the time. The lift conversations I’ve heard among locals at Alta are worth of putting on a t shirt

Yes but the rippers there really rip. Same goes for bird.

Couldn’t be Montana...

But I’ve heard of a place in the upper hand of the mitten that pukes snow and has some of the gnarliest terrain in the Midwest...

The Wood. They used to host the FWT in The Cirque. The Cirque is closed to the public, but chairs 4, 6, and 10 access some seriously gnarly stuff. Spines, cliffs, chutes, etc.

Upper hand of the mitten? Wtf does that mean?

If you know, you know. You know?

Yeah I know that “upper hand of the mitten” doesn’t make any sense. Also stay out of the U.P. We don’t need more gapers stuff Bohemia.

Yeah to explain the joke, I was just typing something fully ridiculous to go with the totally zany wording. See you at Bohemia sometime.

Bro chill. Don’t go to these places, everyone. Read along, they suck...

Jeez dude sorry, didn’t know people were that territorial over 900 ft of elevation :(

Squaw and jackson hole both have some gnarly terrain for sure. In Europe they got crevasses tho and no out of bounds, thinking like chamonix area but ive never been there

Yeah i feel like the alps are a whole different category because they completely lack the concept of "out of bounds", so they easily take the cake

Bird is pretty damn solid, alta for park

Im going to vote for Snowbird as well. There are so many unique faces and sketchy terrain. It literally takes 3-4 seasons to even really explore all the runs. That and Cirque Traverse is one of the coolest and unique runs in the US. Something about weaving across this giant citadel spine with massive steeps on either side...

No to mention the natural cliff line terrain park under the Mineral Basin chair, the endless trees on Gad 2, the steep faces and gullies of High Baldy Traverse, the Book Ends glades, Fauna Cliff bands, the open rock faces on Knucklehead traverse, the straight dump fall lines of Great Scott off the Tram dock, even the lower runs like Lower Silver Fox feel epic with natural spines to rip down. If I had to pick one resort to ski the rest of my life it would hands down be Snowbird.
