Yeagh...just made my class schedual got 5 days off a week and I need a job...the resort is obviously where I want it...

Groomer...ski all day shit work at night and everyone hates me...

Ski Patrol...I dont know what it takes to get this job...

Ski instructor...pays $20 per lesson but guests really only get instruction on the weekends out here...

Liftie...watch other people ski...

Any experienced suggestions?

^^If you want to actual make a living then I suggest grooming. High pay, lots of overtime, fun job with sick hours. And you get all day to ski. I have many friends who groom in Tahoe and they log more powders days than anyone else at the resort (outside of trustafarians). Once you get enough experience the switch to park grooming can be made. You will need many hours of cat time or heavy equipment time prior to applying and a drug test is assured.

Instructing is OK but you have to endure the pecking order of new instructors...that means shit lessons, begginers and cheap ass foreignors with crying kids. But, once you get some skills and a good client base you can actually make an OK mountain living. I personally coached a freeride team for several years. Best ski bum job ever!! I got to cut lift lines on powder days and my kids all kicked HUGE ass.

Lifties - NO way jose....cold, frost bitten and little ride time - LOW wages

I'm going into my first year as a patroller. Seems like the perfect job for me because you get to practice a little medicine and ski a lot. Standard requirements are EMT certified (some resorts take WEC as well). Depending on the resort you will also need avalanche experience, ie previous patrol experience. It's worth a shot, it's a great job, though I would expect that by this time of year most resorts have their patrol staff lined up.

Are you looking to make money, or just ski and get some on the side? If money isn't an issue, instruct, you'll make some, but you'll also have plenty of down days to go ski on your own.

Your not going to be able to just jump into a groomer or ski patrol position. Both of these jobs require training, and experience for grooming.

Yeah man! Id definetly go for the grooming, you get to use some amazing machinery while being on the slopes, but not necisarily skiing, which may be a bummer! . . .

I recommend a night job at any resort, you can ski all day and never miss a pow day, then go to work for a while. Thats what I do and would not have it any other way.

i got the best job. design and build our terrain parks, ride, fix stuff when it needs it, and yell at lil kids!

instructing is a pretty sick job... i can get 4 or 5 good runs in before lessons start, then a couple at lunch and a few more at the end of the day. although being able to work 5 hours a day max kind of sucks.

yeah it depends on what u want. instructing lets you get in a lot more runs but if you wanna ski with friends then it gets hard unless they wait.

grooming would be the best because from there you have experience to go to catskiing if you might want to.

also maybe look into gettin a job at the pro shop. i work in one, and the hours might not be the greatest but the shop forms you get is well worth it

Yeagh the pro shop sucks...

The instructor has its bennefits but they are so stacked up that it's a joke...

How do I get into an EMT class?

How do I get qualified to run a cat...I ran one once, but it was for x-country skiing...and it was really old...

i would say parking attendent you work at the beginging and end of the day so you can ski in the middle of the day when the snow is nice.

Man, most of the time you got to start low and work your way up, sorry but thats how life is. You usually cant just jump into the best jobs unless you know someone personally.

Just search for one in your area. The WEC is going to be much shorter and easier if your mountain will except it. I would talk to the resort first though to see if there are open positions, otherwise you'll be wasting your time an money. Typical EMT course runs about 120-180 hours.

yeah i instruct, it doesnt pay to much (except weekends and holidays) and the first month or two you are basicaly a babysitter, but you get to ski all day so its worth it.

Thats kindda the point...I expect to take the bitch jobs first but would probably recieve training at the same time...Its just that choosing which training to get first...

at copper i'm workin at a coffee place/deli for a month. It's pretty dope cuz you work on friday/saturday/sunday when it's mad busy for skiin anyway and get mad tips n shit, then ski durin the week. Maybe not the best, but my sis hooked it up for just a month so I'll take it.
