right now I am thinking either central america or tokyo. central america for surfing and the added benefit of increasing my spanish skills, tokyo because I like japanese culture and ladies

but im always open to suggestions. i really love the beach, coffee and beer, weed, and nice weather. nowhere cold.

Australia man.

My sister went there and it was fucking awesome for her. Really cool people and its really relaxed.

But where ever you go, living in international student housing can be limiting. Live with the people that are there, not more americans. Live with actual locals.

England. Or somewhere that has a dialect/language that you can understand and read. Otherwise, it will be a bitch to get used to.

I would advise to go somewhere that doesn't speak your native language because it will be more of a challenge. you'll learn more and i would imagine that it looks better from an employer's point of view. i've been to places where nobody speaks english, even the translators could barely speak english. it was a great experience, the place was northern kazakhstan. body slash sign language can get you far, plus its fun to use body language to get the ladies to teach you their language

i really want to go to ireland to study. supposedly the coaches where im about to go say that its not too much of a problem to fit it in around football.

ppl always go to the basic places; london, paris, australia, ireland, japan. i've got a buddy who spent a semester in tibet. if you ask me that is the best place, damn i've always wanted to go to tibet, shit would be sooooo sick, totally different culture, hikes in the foothills of the himalayas, and some of the purest hash known to mankind

man australia i never even thought of that, good call. hopefully i can pick up an accent in a semester

i don't where you're from, but if your from the west coast and especially california, I've heard that although Australia is awesome, it is very similar to us and its not the best place to study abroad. But I guess if your into surfing and want to chill at the beach you can't go wrong with that.

I would recommend checking out Spain or Argentina cause I've known quite a few people who have studied abroad there and they said it was amazing. Plus since its so different from our culture you can really learn a lot and possibly even leverage that to help you get a good job (if we're talking about college here).

Haha. English. Although I'm sure you could find people who speak some other language. Which could be Maori, assuming that is a language, I have no idea if it is though.

I've heard Buenos Aires is amazing. And Australia or New Zealand are supposed to be sweet. Just one big party and the people are supposed to be great. Have you decided if you are going for a year or just a semester? I am seriously contemplating doing a semester in Australia or New Zealand and one in Buenos Aires. I just don't know if I want to be away for a whole year. Santiago, Chile is a great choice if you want to do some skiing during the summer before you start school.

I'm From New Zealand and Uni here is sweet. But Australia would be cool too though. Any questions about NZ feel free to PM me. I go to Otago which is probably the most recognized and its best for skiing. Plus its probably one of the most highly concerntrated student areas you'll ever go. Very much a party town. First year all i did was drink. PLus all the residential halls, student bars, city centre, University are as close as they could get.

yeah, Australia! I'm studying abroad here right now, and it's so

awesome, i definitely recommend it. I'm on the Gold Coast, which you

would probably love (beach, beer, n bitches hahah) so PM me if you wanna know any more about it!

You've gotta go with your gut instinct on this one. I studied abroad in OZ, but i mean this choice is all about you, so just be confident that where ever you chose to go, you're going to have the time of your life.

it's a great oppertunity to learn and see the world, but ultimatly, you're going to want to do and see what you want to do and see. You know your self much better than any of us, and this choice is really chosing the places where you want to start growing a new individuality, or ateast expanding the one you've already got -- so go with what your gut tells you.

once again i say this a lot, but when i graduate from boot camp and a school, i'll be assigned to a ship and probably visit so many different countries. i've talked to quite a few shipmates and they told me about japan, guam, parts of europe like spain and germany. it sounds like so much fun. cant wait.

I understand what you mean, but had I not created this thread I wouldnt have considered australia.

my brothers going to England next fall, and he just got back from a big trip to amsterdam, brussels, and some other places. he said it was really fun and a good place. good luck wherever you go

don't just study abroad cuz you can ski or surf somewhere else! Not saying all of you are but i would really reccomend looking at where your major has a huge impact on the culture in a Country where it would be beneficial to your education and your growth of knowledge and your Resume/Portfolio.

Like me for example, I'm studying Motion Graphics/Graphic Design BA/Associates in Fashion Design posibly as well. So for me Italy is great! Motion graphics is huge out there with all the marketing for Fashion Brands and growth of media in that part of Europe....but I really think people should find what will most directly impact there education and depth of knowledge.

Don't go somewhere that your familiar w/ either, go somewhere you've never been to actually help you grow as a person as well. Just some things i thought about, and my Advisor talked to me about.

On Oz, i went to Wollongong, it was sick, 60k's south of sydney... i mean that part of the world is totally unique, and if you're going to go that way, you need to stop in NZ and try fiji as well, it's just a well rounded trip.

wherever you go look into http://www.wwoof.org/ for when you do traveling -- you work 3-4 hrs a day on an organic farm and you're provided with room and board, pretty great deal. It's how i saw NZ.

i think the spanish influence you'd get from SA is also something worth considering though, that is a pretty unique to you sort of aspect of the desicions. you'd get to learn the language better, and feel the culture too.

whatever though, i think you know what i'm saying in that you're going to find it difficult to make the wrong choice as long as you're doing the choosing.

I'm going to Ghana in the Fall...it's going to be intense. I figured might as well go somewhere that there's no way in hell I would go to without a study abroad program.

New Zealand for a fall semester.. typically runs from july-november. which means i can ski all summer, then come back to colorado for our winter.
im not studying abroad just to ski, i want the experience, and to pump up the resume... but snow definately adds bonus points!

^list of universities in NZ

If anyone has any suggestions on which universities have good reputations, pm me! im trying to figure this all out haha, advice is appreciated :)

If you wanna go to Australia, check out Perth...it's a pretty big city on the west coast but its very isolated and there's tons of shit to do. I spent a semester at Curtin University, had class 3 days a week and spent the other 4 learning to surf / traveling up the coast. definitly an epic experience. It totally had no relevance to my major (engineering) but i still got a lot out of it and had an amazing time.

Study abroad, by the College Humor Guide to College…

STUDY ABROAD DESTINATION

UNITED KINGDOM: ‘’Pound sterling for pound sterling, the world’s best.’’

-What’s the deal?: Would you like to study abroad, but not to deal with the hassle of learning a new language? Then the United Kingdom is for you! Whoa, is that an apartment or a flat?

-Things to see: London. Then it’s just France before a woman’s underpants. Schoolyard chants don’t lie. Now, how about that place in France where the naked ladies dance?

-Things not to see: Wales. Has nothing to do with Free Willy and everything to do with a shitty country full of sheep and textile mills.

-One great items to bring: Handgun. You’ll have the only one on the whole island, and you will be their master.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

FRANCE: ‘’ No, we don’t call French toast, “toast”!’’

-What’s the deal?: The French love nothing more than not loving you. Don’t get mad if a Frenchman get angry at you; he’s just naturally mad because his car is small, he stinks of brie, and his daughter finds you irresistible.

-Things to see: Normandy. See where Grandpa once orphaned twenty German children with one well-placed grenade toss.

-Things not to see:EuroDysney. There’s nothing stranger than a Frenchman in a Goofy costume. Goofy indeed.

-One great items to bring: Your republican committee membership card.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

ITALY: ‘’Once great, now dirty.’’

-What’s the deal?: The ancestral homeland of Danny DeVito is one hot place. Make sure to bring plenty of sunscreen and gypsy repellent if you plan on seeing the sights.

-Things to see: Pompeii’s ancient whorehouse. Come see the exact spot where the world’s oldest professional blowjob was given back when you could give a whore three rocks for oral sex and she’d gladly accept. A generous tip was handful of dirt.

-Things not to see: Pisa. Everyone first thought when they see the leaning tower is: ‘’Hmmm, I wonder if it will fall today.’’ Answer: no.

-One great items to bring: Pizza Hut coupon. Redeemable for one confused Italian cashier.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

SPAIN: ‘’ The England of Mexico.’’

-What’s the deal?: The average American takes six semester of Spanish in high school but will reduced to yelling, ‘’Which way to el bano!!!’’ on their Spanish vacation. Remember to look around and say aloud, ‘’This shithole controlled the world for centuries!?!?’’

-Things to see: Ibiza. Drugs? Sex? Techno music? It’s as if Tara Reid’s mind created an island.

-Things not to see: Madrid. The Newark of the Iberian Peninsula.

-One great items to bring: Hammock. Bring this fine piece of lounge equipment along and you can participate to the national sport: Laziness!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

JAPAN: ‘’ We know what your tattoo means.’’

-What’s the deal?: The Japanese are lot like the Chinese, but don’t tell them or they’ll karate kick you to outer space. Or is that the Chinese? See!

-Things to see: Tokyo. There’s only one city in the world where you can sleep in a tube, and we’re not referring to a homoerotic metaphor.

-Things not to see: Sumo match. You’ll become depressed when you realize that the Sumos aren’t that much bigger than your fat American ass.

-One great items to bring: Used panties. Sell them on the street for some extra cash… Seriously, they buy that crap over there.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

AUSTRALIA: ‘’England’s Alabama.’’

-What’s the deal?: If you’re looking for kangaroos or sand, this place is a done deal. A crocodile done-deal.

-Things to see: The Great Barrier Reef. This is the largest living thing on Earth. It is your job as a native Kentuckian to try to kill it.

-Things not to see: Great white shark. You see, you die. They keep things simple down there; no rules, just right!

-One great items to bring: A shiv wrapped in a bandana. This country is originally founded by prisoners, so you can never be to careful.

dude go somewhere in south america. chile, peru, argentina, etc. a spanish speaking country would be so epic to study abroad at.

what part of spain?

and yes, i say spain. although i am biased. but if you want to learn spanish, go there, because that is where real spanish is spoken, as opposed to the spanish in central america which is not very good. and there is dope surfing in spain, especially in the north.

hahaha thats great

Japan seems like it would offer the greatest cultural difference. but it would prob be super expensive
