Best place to ski in New York area?

So i've spent my last 2 seasons living in Whistler but the time came where I had to get a real job so am now based in NYC. I want to get some skiing in soon so which is the biggest hill in this area? Is the snow likely to be any good or is it sheet ice in this part of the US. Any advice appreciated...the resorts are listed here...

it'll prolly take 3-4 hrs to get to gore or whiteface from nyc w/ good traffic...vermont is just as close there are some great places in southern vermont. stratton and mt snow have two of the most progressive parks in the east and then theres killy, magic, bromley okemo. from nyc if you didnt want to travel as far you could hit up hunter, windham platekill or jiminy. dont know much about ne place in jersey tho. hope that helps

^most people here would say gore sucks but its cuz its park, well isnt...but its a good mountain if u ski it right...and there expanding with about another 700acers in the old ski bowl which is right next to it...and the ski bowl isnt owned by the state so they can build houses, and renovate the rail service from NYC...so there you go, its quick to get to now too..

Mtn creek has one of the best parks in the country, and for its size and location (like an hour out of the city) its frickin awesome...Best park i've been to in the east is Okemo, Noreaster: 1/3 moguls, 2/3 big hits and sick rails with great flow, plus they have another one with a killer halfpipe (fuckin' huge!) and some really creative rails

 
gore is fine and tmorry can outski all of you grow up honestly gores terrain park isnt the greatest and everyone knows that. stop fucking whining and get your panties out of a knot. go out and ski some place rather then bitch and moan about how shitty it is. go build a jump in your backyard and stop being so negative.

 
mtn creek is i think the closest from nyc. I live in brooklyn so i feel your pain. THe sickest urban anywhere though in nyc lol. Mt. Snow has aa really cool park, i went there with my school and it took us like 6 hours plus a break for food. btw i go to school in mnahattan where are you

go to HUNTER! its really cool, and its like 2 hours for the city, and its like the best mountain that closest to the city, like it has a decent vertical for beeing in the catskills

Sorry to hear about the move you will probably hate the mountains over hear. I live in brooklyn and grew up skiing east coast and just went out west for the 1st time this yr to ski and now whenever I ski over here it sucks more than it did before. When ever possible try to get to southern VT only about 4hrs. from NYC. For rails defintaly Mt. Creek but only during the week its a mad house on the weekends. Windham isn't a bad mt. and they run bus trips 3/4 x's a week check out there website windham.com. Good luck!!!

 
windham/hunter/ mountain creek .... gore whiteface are more like 5-6 from nyc

mtn creek. kewl park. ski jay, the bush, or stowe when it dumps for epic days in da trees. the view doesn't compare to whistler but pow makes for a good day anywhere.

 
Mt snow should take u aboy 3 hrs from the tappen zee.. Mtn creek is good for park but dependingon where u live it could take up to 2 hrs

 
if any or you skied gore all year youd know how good it is. Better than any of southern vermont if you explore. I've found multiple 10-20 ft cliffs with good landings in the backcountry. Go beyond the park you pussies

 
well go to whiteface its like mad far probally 4-5hrs from the city but its better that suckass opps i mean Gore. so 4 u there is pretty much nowhere to ski. GO HOME ITS FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!

yea hunter and windham are ur best shots with in 3 hours of the city, i live on the island and work at windham, its not a bad drive to make

 
Maybe Mountain Creek in NJ is semi-close, too bad it's in Jersey since Jersey is trash

but avoid mtn creek on weekends or even mid-week "powder" days... (it's not real powder of course), i went there after a big storm last year on a tuesday and it seemed like all of jersey was there! it fucking sucked. but they are good for night skiing... ice + beer + limited vision = a great time! you can ski there until 10 pm I think.
