^...sucks, yea as soon as it snows everybody goes there, its a fucking LONG hike, NO cliffs, and the traverse back sucks... go to Snowmass and Ski the Cirque, Headwall, and the Rock Island off the Burn... almost every pic in every mag at Snowmass is on Rock Island... soooo many nice cliffs

all of the mountains are super sick for different reasons and all with in about 15 mins of each other. starting off with Aspen (Ajax)- You can't get some super sick steep powder skiing going down and insanely sick back country jumps on the backside of Aspen. (Highlands) has some really sick steep skiing as well. However, if you plan to get some powder better start early. All the crazy mountaineer people get up there real quick. They also have some sick log slides hidden. You just gotta play Where in the World is Waldo with those things. Mad Hidden! (Buttermilk) is the smallest mountain. Still larger than east coast stuff. The park kind of lacked this year and the guy was fired for it. The original X-games park will be left up and so much more will be added this year. It also sick if you want to do some straight up groomed switch bombing and butters and shit. And Finally Snowmass has such a sick park with sick tables and rails and everything. Also has really sick big mountain that is chairlift accessible. With some sick cliffs! So you got a lot of options.

Snowmass gets better snow earlier in the year. HVW, and Cirque usally don't open untill Christmas break. AMF and the other trails from the hike to access from the Big Burn sometimes doesn't open untill the end of Jan depending on snowpack. Sams Nob however seems to be a magnet for snow with very little traffic. You can milk a powderday for a long time there.

Ajax gets tracked out very fast. You better be one of the first ones in line to get the goods. My advice there on a powderday is to avoid the Gondola. Take Lift 1A and the the HS double chair 'ruthies'. Hit everything in site, because the main crowd will be using the gondo and then the HS chair 3.

Highlands bowl also will not get opened untill the Patrol knows it is good and safe. People can bitch about the hike and traverse out all they want. You won't notice a thing with the smile on your face. Nuff said

wickes lives there too. out of my 40 days in aspen last year i skied about 35 at snowmass, its a sick area. Actually by far their best area. super close to crested butte too so thats why im always there.
