Best place to hike/mtn. bike in mojave...

As for regional forums, I figured this was the best since there is no Nevada or Arizona....But, my dad and I are going to Vegas in a week and want to spend a couple days hiking/mtn. biking. My question is where is the best place to do that? Keep in mind, my dad has degenerating and herniated discs in his back so he can't do any hardcore downhill or jumps/falls. But, he is strong and can handle rough terrain.I have always wanted to go to Joshua Tree, is it worth our trip from Vegas?+K for input
 
um well i wouldnt personally go to joshua tree or lucern valley or yucca valley just cuz its usually extremely hot everything looks exactly same but if you do find yourself near big bear you can hike around the lake or at big bear ski resort and if you find yourself by mountain high which isnt to far off the 15 freeway there is some nice not hardcore hiking near mtn. high ski resort and jackson lake but if u are intrested in that i live up here so u can ask me about trails and stuff
 
Heat is never really a factor to me. But, I may save lucern or yucca valley for a cooler month.But, Mountain high may be a possibility because we could check out LA while we are out there.We were also thinking going to Moab in Utah. Has anyone been there? I hear its sick for mountain biking.
 
mtn high is fun to mtn. bike the only thing is that you have to get a ride up cuz they dont run the lift its lame but usually i get my friends parents to drop us off out of their rhino
