I want to get myself a pair of shades. I have no problem spending like 75-100 on some frog skins or holbrooks, but i rather get some fakes ones and get one of each

Ik some people say there is a major difference and like fake ones are bad for ur eyes.

anyone have good experience with any knock off websites? or if anyone wants to sell me a used pair for cheaper

Just a guess, but try an unauthorized website, or something that isn't oakley.com.

100$ oakleys? you mean 150+$ oakleys.

also, here's why you want to pay more for shades : they last longer. 10$ sunglasses break like nothing. meanwhile, i've had some pairs for 6 years now. and i'm always breaking shit.

They're very bad for your eyes, in a study published recently by the American Social Science Bureau of Undermined Technology for Teenagers (ASSBUTT), 69% of teenagers, aged 13-18 develop serious, chronic health disorders related to vision later in life, with the majority of the cases being reported when the individuals are in their 90's. Keep in mind this study occurred in 1927, so the data may be slightly skewed.

Holbrooks are 200 polarized so you're a little far off in your numbers. Google "cheap oakley holbrooks" im sure youll find something.

I heard about this when i was cruising the CB radio

I always bought cheap ass sunglasses because I had a notorious habit of breaking them within a month and I figured I was just clumsy as fuck and didn't see a point of buying an expensive pair just to break them as soon as I put them on. Then I got some legit ray bans as a gift last summer and I still have them now in one piece and I really notice a difference in the vision through the lens. Moral of the story is you should just invest in a dope pair of real oakleys or don't i don't care

jut ordered some wayfares yesterday hoping they're dope as fuck

the more i pay for glasses, the quicker i lose them. check your mall, alot of times there are foreign people with sunglass stands selling cheap ones. plus you get to try them on before you buy them

I bought a pair of razor blades for rowing for about $200. Nothing beats the real ones, they're Impact resistant and UV resistant. By wearing shaded fakes that are not UV protected your pupils dilate which then lets in more harmful UV rays then if you weren't wearing fake glasses at all. In a nutshell it's better to wear no sunglasses than fake ones.

This is the biggest pile of shit ive ever read.

Since I paid good money for my oakleys like 3 years ago, I haven't lost them and keep great track of them. The only thing I've done is replace the lens' last summer. Like someone said, check out the mall for foakleys or google around. Google answers all, this is 2014.

I was able to buy some polarized Jurys for $125 at an outlet store. I bout shit my pants when she told me the price. They've been my favorite sunglasses I've ever owned. Had them for 4 years, never lost them, taken good care of em. It's worth it to buy good ones and just be responsible with them.

From black dudes in the city. I used to always grab a $10 pair back in the day. Sure you can buy them wholesale easily now online but what's the fun in that.

I'll never spend more than $20 on a pair of shades. It's pointless. Always hearing people bitch about how they lost or broke they're $100+ shades. What's the point?

If somebody steals mine I'll just get new ones and be over it.

Groundscore shades are good as well.

Nah, you can definitely get them for 100 or less.

Actually plastic is pretty good at reflecting uv without any treatment, though it's definitely not as good as ones that have been treated. So you should be pretty safe wearing fakes unless you plan on staring at the sun for a while.

----- SCIENCE -----

Shorter wavelengths of light at reflected pretty well by hydrocarbons (and most things) which is why oil looks blue/ green in water.

Imo it's a bit like that time everyone thought that red food colouring would give you cancer, meaning it is probably much less bad for you than you think

Tl; dr

Freeskiing is much more dangerous to you health than wearing fake sunglasses

Holbrooks are 200 polarized

Worth every penny.

These have been stepped on, fallen on concrete countless times, jammed in my pocket, and they're still nearly perfect. I realize I should probably treat them a little nicer, but what's the point of sunglasses if you have to baby them?

My friends dad used to sell fake oakleys out of the trunk of his car

i had a pair of raybans that broke in my pocket 2 weeks after i got them

i have a pair of free sunglasses i got at safeway and they've fallen off the chairlift multiple times, been 20 feet or so underwater at the bottom of a lake, lost for about 6 months and then found again, and are still in perfect condition. get cheap ones they last forever and never break expensive ones are cursed

Which pair do u like better

I'll be using them for rowing and chillin

frogskins or Holbrook

For rowing, I would go with something like the Jupiter Squared, if you don't want the spandex look of a Radar or Flak Jacket. The rubber on the arms (they call it Unobtanium) gets stickier when it gets wet, so they will stay on your face easier. Croakies/Chums are still a great investment though, especially if you're dead-set on Frogskins or Holbrooks.

You don't want fakes. Of course, if you lose real ones, it is much more of a bummer. But if you take care of them, and don't lose them (seriously, get croakies), they are 10x better than fakes. Real Oakleys have much truer optics, much more durable frames, and some ridiculous impact protection (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uy-kjqbYO6E) (or just search "oakley impact test" on Youtube).

Also, for rowing, as I'm sure you know, polarized lenses are going to be great. If you don't want to go polarized, Iridium lenses (though not the fake ones) do offer a bit of glare reduction on their own. Real Oakley polarization has a much higher degree of clarity, as they don't use a film glued between two panes of lens (like I'm sure the fakes an many other glasses are made), but the polarization is injection-molded into the lens.

I own a pair of the Jupiter Carbons (Ice iridium polarized), as well as a Holbrook (Ruby Iridium). They are both great, but the Jupiters stay on my face much better, and I wear them much more often because they're polarized.

If you are dead-set between the Holbrook and Frogskin, go Holbrook. They are made with a higher-quality frame material, and in my opinion, the Frogskins just feel cheap (paying $100+ for a pair that feels cheap kinda sucks). Frogskin arms also have a higher tendency for the arms to pop off (though they do pop back in). Maybe look into Frogskin LX if you like the style. It's an acetate frame, so a bit more durable, and it uses a metal hinge in the arms. Unfortunately, the metal hinge means if the arms break off, they're done (although Oakley's warranty policy can sometimes cover such breaks). They also make a Holbrook LX, if that sounds more appealing.

I get that pricing kinda sucks, but do you live near an outlet mall with an Oakley Vault? Every few weeks they run a "buy one get one half off" where if you get a full-priced pair, you can get a normally sale-priced pair for an additional half-off the sale price (meaning you could snag a sale pair of Frogskins for as low as 25$)

I hope this helps. If you have more questions, feel free to ask here or via PM. I work at an Oakley Vault, so hopefully I would have an answer for you.

I'm not the only one who says this, it's common knowledge

"Please keep in mind, counterfeiters want one thing: Profit. The cheaper they can make the glasses, the more money they make. They will NOT take the time to use good materials in the frame, or the lenses and they won't spend the money to put polarized lenses in their glasses.

Oakely lenses are made from a patented material called "plutonite". Your lenses were made from cheap generic polycarbonate. Oakley lenses are ANSI Z87.1 certified for clarity and for strength (impac resistance), more so than generic polycarbonate.

You're also not getting the same UV protection from the fakes. So wearing them, you're doing long term damage to your eye. You're not going notice anything right away,

**but you are in fact letting in more harmful UV. Your pupils are dialated b/e of the dark lens,**

and the lens is filter out less harmful rays.

Depending on your frame (if you got the sport frames), the fake's frame is made from Acetate- which is plastic. Oakley's "sport" frames are made from a patented material called O-Matter. It's nylon based and very flexible. Oakley Sport frames are all ANSI Z87.1 certified for impact resistance.

Since you got the Alloy frame, are made from the same materials but different ratios than the Oakley Alloy (C5) frame. That Oakley alloy frame is also a patented blend, but it's not impact resistant rated (the lenses are still, though). "

Most fake sunglasses have really dark lenses. I bought 2 pairs of fake oakleys for like 30$, the other ones i only wear when im at the beach and its really bright, cause otherwise i cant see shit with them. The others are polarized, but still really dark, and i wear them fishing when sunny and out in the sea or lake. If im at a stream or somewhere where there are trees that cause shade, they are of no use. I compared the lenses with real ones, and oh how much better those were

mine say on the side they were made in the USA and they are real sooo...

Some are made in China, some are made in Italy, some are made in the US. I think the umbrella company, Luxotica, has something to do with this distribution.

Oh I wasn't complaining about the price. I was just explining to OP that there not $100 like he thought. I have flak jackets and those things are fucking indestructible. I just a new pair of ray ban wayfarers and they look sick. Hoping they don't go to shit.

Forgot to mention this, but check out oakleyvault.com too. They usually have some sale-priced Holbrooks and Frogskins. And yes, they are real ones.
