Best Parks Near Boston?

I have to leave the West Coast for three years and move to Boston for work. I'm not expecting to find the same kind of terrain or conditions back there, but I've heard good things about the terrain parks back East.

Where are the best parks within reasonable daytrip range? Anything decent nearby for night-skiing?

Thanks for the help.

-Jay

in the daytrip range, I'de have to go with Killington, Mt Snow, Okemo, Waterville, and many, but those are all good.

In terms of night skiing, from Boston, you basically have Nashoba, Wachusset, Bradford and Blue Hills.

life is too short to have any regrets

Any thoughts on which of the resorts have the best park, least Crowds, least expensive tickets in the daytrip or nightskiing range.

Thanks for the input.

Wachusett is good for day trips cause they have a decent park, and its only 45 mins away. they also started a park-pass syetem which helps keep out at least some of the gapers. The lines can get pretty long on the weekends though. but if you lived on the west coast its probably gona be the shittiest mountain youve ever been to.

killington and waterville are also less than 3 hours from the heart of boston.

haha wawas is soo bad dude, you might as well go to pats peak.. im sorry to say this but your "day trip" is gonna be at least a 3 1/2 hour drive to either waterville (great park and people, tickets can be expensive but they have a poma lift for the park), loon(overall good), mt snow (pretty dec park, terrible mountain), killington (many faggots, good park, expensive, big), sunapee (pretty small, cheap, small mediocre park, nice people), okemo (dank park, hella nice people, big mountain, expensive lift tickets).. theres more like cannon and stuff but im too lazy

Enom Headwear.. If you're gonna ride twins, cover your head

I drove almost every weekend last winter to waterville, loon, and once to cranmore. I live about 35 minutes south of Boston. You can leave your house by 6:30 and be at the mountian at 8:30-9. Driving to WV and Loon isnt bad...I found cranmore (which has night skiing) to be a longer drive. For a day trip to VT, I'd say Stratton and Mt Snow are within 3 hours. anyplace else I'm not sure...I dont go to VT a lot unfortunatly.

loon/ or WV will be the best next year

From Boston, Waterville, Loon, Cannon should all be about 2-2.5 hours (straight shot up 93 north), Sunapee is about the same time frame (93 north to 89 North).

If you are looking for more than just park skiing, Killington, Sunday River, Sugarloaf, and Cannon are probably the best bet (in terms of offering more challenging terrain, but you might have to venture for it).

I have to disagree with the above poster about Okemo though, It's really not that big, and personally, I don't find most of their trails enjoyable, however, they have a couple glades that when open, can be a lot of fun, but like previously said, they do have some really good park features (spread across the area in numerous parks).

Something else to keep in mind is Crotched, decent park and offers late hours Fri and Sat nights, you can get a 9PM - 3AM ticket - if you're a night owl.

To give you an idea though, I'm about 30 minutes NW of Boston, and my trip times have been 1:45 to Loon/Waterville, 2:00 to Cannon (roughly), 2:15-2:30 to Killington/Okemo/Piko and I think about 3:00 to Sunday River.

However, if you catch a storm, Jay Peak cannot be beaten, but its a haul from Boston, probably close to 4 hours, but definatly worthwhile.

life is too short to have any regrets

def loon or waterville, so get a threedom. killington is prob not worth the hike, but i havent been in forever so...go with loon, wv, stratton or okemo

sunday river, sugarloaf, killington, stratton, okemo, mt snow (but the mtn sucks) for like weekends and sunapee and loon for day trips

Mt. Snow best parks in the east, n im almost positive it is the closest mtn to Boston, no more then 2 hrs

East Coast.

yea connor wawa does suck, but youve never even been there. Not everyone wants to drive 2+ hours, so to session a handfull of shitty rails and a couple 25-35 ft jumps only 45 minutes away isnt bad. otherwise dub-v or loon is the clearchoice

jay peak doesnt have the best park but it does have some really good glades and they get alot of snow

dude your best shot is definatley loon or Waterville. Both arent too far from boston and they have dope parks. as for tickets get urself a threedom pass. itll pay itself off in 10 days at the most, im not sure on prices but i know my teen one was paid for after 7 times.

wawa was accually fairly nice this year. nice c-box, staircase rail with large gay, nice kinked box, and there pipe was icy but ussually nicely shaped. the park gets icy on friday nights, but thats about it. so if you are not a pro at park and are looking to get better, def hit up wawa and u will not be dissapointed. also, to whoever thinks the park pass is a good idea, you are a dick head. there was a beginner park( needed no pass) and still i saw kids with there mothers watching the safety video, and once, a 50 year old woman was snowplowing down the middle of the pipe and when at the bottom, i told her to please use a different trail and she replyed" please dont keep me from getting better at jumping in the air, its very fun" i decided that the park pass did more bad than good

Hey:

Thanks again for all of the information on the resorts and parks.

I checked on the Threedom Pass and the site said that they'd extended the deadline to May 13 - anyone know if that's the deadline for picking up the pass at all - or just for a better deal? Most of the resorts in CO and WA cut off the discounted season pass sales in October - so May seems a bit early, but maybe that's the way things go out there.

Personally, I'm a fan of Okemo, Super sick park, and sicker pipe. Sometimes the lines in the park can get kinda sketchy, or don't seem to flow super well. But overall Okemo is one of my favorites, no question. Someone said it right about Mount Snow, really nice park, easily one of the top 5, but the rest of the mountain sucks. Killingtons good, but I'm not a huge fan.

Okemo and Mount Snow are your best bets, but ski around next year, mabey get the All East Pass, which includes Mount Snow, Killington, and 4 others. Just see what you like the best and go from there.

I hit 5k, Wow

Waterville Vallye is 2 hours up the highway (such an easy drive). Its DIRT cheap, and has a SICK park with a poma lift that takes u right to the top. PLus, theres never tHAT many people there

TheProfitSkier, I definitely have to disagree with you, The Park Pass was the best thing Wachusett has ever done, I have no idea what you mean by it's done more bad than good.

(you can't be upset at the price, only $5 for the season! hell, I'd be happy to pay $50)

All I know is before the park pass was implemented I would get cut off atleast 1/2 the time... never got cutoff once after the park pass was started (with the exception of the last day April 10th, but the fence was down and park pass was not enforced)

As for Wachusett's park, for a place that's only 20m from my house that I can session everyday after work until 10pm, I have no complaints

id say wachussett.

how about a jib for the mentally unstable aswell. maybe a picture of a kid with down syndrome on a box - anathema

Mt Snow's rest of the mountian is not that bed.. espically glades wise(not jay but closer then jay to boston). north face has sum nice bump runs that r steep, n rip cord is steep shit, but ill actually ski their glades equallly to the parks

East Coast.

jay is about 5-6 hours from boston. but i only went to wawa on friday nights, and there were plenty of gapers in the park, it might be different on other days
