Appreciation thread for those park crews that create interesting and fun parks, and use their resources to the maximum. Two of the best in my opinion would be pine knob and trollhaugen.
 
Trollhaugen is unmatched. The level of detail and care that goes into that park is impressive. Death cookies are never a thing, the lips are hand raked to perfection, their landings and lips match the pitch of the terrain, and they normally do a full park change every 3 weeks to keep things fresh. Not to mention, they have a great base of features and are constantly working on something new.

I definitely have a love/hate relationship with Hyland’s park. While they do consistently make some of the most fun, challenging, and difficult rails in the world, their jumps are designed to kill you, and I really wish they would put a few progression features in every once and a while.
 
Carinthia puts up woodward tier parks with half the staff of a woodward park, huge huge shoutout to the boys working their goddamn asses off. Still the best parks in the US (for how much snow they have) IMO

How come they put in short ass rails tho. I feel like every clip I see from there it’s just short rails in different configs.

Big claim..*perhaps on the east coast, i'd say 4-5 years ago this statement might be true but a bunch of other resorts have caught up with their parks. Loon, Killington and Loaf are all the same caliber as Carinthia, just without the isolated park feel, better vibes at all three of those imo. Yea carinthia has full top to bottom runs with features but if you're looking for some variety of all mountain skiing and park it's not the move.

They didn’t put ‘em in past few years but I’ve seen Chris Dejons stories lately and they definitely have been incorporating bigger rails this year

4-5 years ago was when carinthia was the worst it had ever been, think you mean 10 years ago.
 
Tyrol basin is so creative with their park they have craters log features and the rail setup is always something crazy

Carinthia is mint right now. All the features are super fun. Killington and Bush have more creative parks but in the end carinthia just builds super proper setups. The one downside is the park crew doesn't do much about sticky rails and you also have to ski at mount snow.
 
unfortunately i cannot say the same about showdown Montana, the park crew doesn’t know what they are doing and they build the landings of the jumps super weird. they dont build jump lines and they just put jumps in random ass places. the rails are at like a 65 degree angle and all of them are so sticky it’s actually kinda dangerous. they dont build rollers correctly either, they make the top of the roller completely flat then it drops off abruptly (obviously a true roller wouldn’t do that) and they haven’t been working on shit for the past 2 weeks, they had a park for a week and then it snowed 50+ inches and they didnt bother digging up rails or anything for like a whole week. but all those things aside the mountain itself isnt bad, never any lift lines, the snow is always good and rarely ever icy. and we have more snow than we’ve had in about 5-6 years.

Gotta disagree on Loon. They always only make a snowboard park and they have no true park lift. Carinthia is whole mountain dedicated to park I feel like they are more well rounded tbh
 
just go to XL parks in europe. those guys mathematically plan out each and every jump for landings and distance between, it actually takes a lot of skill and planning

Feeling the need to shout out to the diggers at sugarloaf this season. [tag=188025]@a_burger[/tag] and the rest of the crew have kept features fresh, switched things up frequently, and busted ass all season thus far. Been so damn fun as of recent!

i’ve never been but their crew seems to be on top of putting new stuff in, we get a new park every month and they seem to get a different rail every day
 
Bush stays undefeated. Insane features setup with perfect flow and incredibly creative. They all rip and are super passionate about their work. The park crew puts in some insane work keeping Bush ripping even with the horrible east coast weather. This year, its honestly one of the best parks I have skied. Definitely the best rail setup. Thank you Sugarbush Park Crew

I scrolled down this entire page and see no parks from here in Colorado. I know we have some good parks but all of you guys do have me thinking... Why don't we have dedicated rope town in our parks here out west? I would love to get better at rails and I can't stand having to always ride down to a lift just to hit the same feature. I think midwest and east coast kids have a huge leg up when it comes to that stuff.

Yo to be fair, winter park terrain park should actually be included, that set up is so fucking gas its unbelievable
 
the real question is who has the best park builders, there the ones that make or break a park imo.

It's tough. I think in the social media day you have more access to seeing more but then there are silent killers that do great work but don't post it and then people who post everything.

Ty Weed posts some pretty incredible jumps all the time. Whistler/Arena guy. Never ridden any but they look friggin perfect.

Chris Meyer gets a lot of love and some hate, but he's a solid jump builder and has a good eye for sick flow features. I'm a big fan of flow parks and bowly type stuff.

Reuben Cameron built some pretty gorgeous jumps at Thredbo. I know he's worked other places and built sick shit but that was mostly all I saw. Real good shit and has a solid thing going in the industry.

Charles Beckinsale Also never ridden any of his stuff but consistently building proper jumplines.

Matt Dunn from pine knob. Still young and already building some sick flowy parks with multiple lines. Was fun working with him at hood last summer.

Jarrod Martinez at Northstar. I was pretty impressed with what he was building even 5 years ago when he came over from Rose. He seems really dialed on the jumps these days.

Idk, hard to say. It's sort of what you see or ride. I would say this isn't necessarily a list of all the best builders more some of the best builders/people I feel inspired seeing or riding their features.

is there any particular reason youre aware of that mammoth seems to have had perfect jumps on lockdown for so long, seemingly more so than anywhere else?

CA was kinda the birthplace for parks. Mammoth build sick ass big shit back in the day and never stopped. They get great snow and the mountain has stayed on board with the park game where other places like Northstar nerfed their parks under Vail.

They have a huge dedicated park cat/day staff crew. Some of the best builders in the world work/have worked there or June. They built some of the biggest jumps back in the day, and still do these days. I'd say the biggest public jumps in the country are generally there. Still a few mountains building beasts, and mammoth is consistently one of them.

Reuben that I mentioned build at June for years. Chris did a season or two there in recent years and built some big ass jumps.

They're park program is built around offering big shit. Mammoth was a big hub for pros back in the day and still is. They've been able to justify the resources, the jumps get ridden. Seems like the program both attracts good builders and breeds good builders.

yeah man agreed on all, honestly their preeminence in the jump scene is crazy. makes you wonder if they have some secret formula or something, that or dark magic/bargains with the devil
 
Shoutout Mount Southington in Connecticut as well. 400 feet of vert, 3 foot snow base, still putting together a nice park and hosting a shit ton of events. Hosted more events than so many other places, CT is in good hands.

Killi is pretty damn close to having a peak to base park
 
if vail would let them afton would probably be the best in mn.

afton used to have 5 parks including 3 lift serviced parks one of which had huge jumps but now its only the 2 rope tows that get reset 2 times per season.

moral of story: afton used to be very good but now sucks because vail bought them and now the lift tickets raised 50 bucks.

I think vail bought them when they first reupped their rail fleet. I think keystone built them a bunch of shit. But yeah thats a shame. Vail not the friendliest to parks
