Best Overall Photo Lens

I'm just starting photography and filmmaking with dslr and I want to know what would be the best lens in general for mostly photography, mainly skiing and landscape photography. I have just a kit lens right now and am looking for something pretty cheap. I have a t2i by the way.

You're not gonna get the best overall photo lens for pretty cheap, or any lens really. Save up your money, it's worth it.

I kinda worded that weird, sorry. I'm looking for the best value lens for starters in photography. If the kit lens will work for a few years then i'll just stick with the kit lens.

Kit lens is fine for most stuff, but you'll want a wider maximum aperture and more consistent sharpness throughout the range eventually. I'd go for a Tamron 17-50. 2.8 all the way through and you can usually find them for

I run a Tamron 17-50, I love it, would definitely recommend that lens.
